I'm really tempted to pick up a refurbished 13" rMBP and just sell it if/when the new ones come out. I'd be buying the new Haswell using my education discount once it was released so I shouldn't lose too much.

Just saying, it's really worth the wait if you want the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro.

I'm afraid if Broadwell is expected for Q1 '14 they might skip Haswell :-|

That's not going to happen but it would be a blessing if it did. It would show consideration to their customers if they said "We can't release a top end computer to our customers that does not have any performance gain to speak of compared to the one we released a year and a half ago"

I guess it depends how good Apple's friendship with Intel is as to when it eventually does come out :D

Well they had an early access to Thunderbolt didn't they? ;)
But it does depend on when they're ready

That's what I'm thinking. Haswell is great for power consumption but that's pretty much all, isn't it? It pains me to say it would make sense if they were waiting broadwell but only if they can have them to be released in February

Does anyone think it is? Everything I've seen points to a similar Broadwell rollout timeframe as Haswell's launch this year.

The fact that Intel intends to begin production at the end of 2013 (which was always their plan) doesn't imply that chips will be available any earlier than they were this year. Remember that Haswell chips have technically been available for a long time, just not the ones that you want in your laptop in sufficient quantities.

That relatively recent leak that showed no Broadwell desktop CPUs also indicated a "2H 2014" Broadwell mobile launch, which means Q3.

Absolutely disappointed with apple today...that's all I have to say...:(

It's pretty disappointing. Not even a mention of the Mavericks release date. No silent updates.

BTW, is this the first September event since the introduction of the iPod where no mention has been made of them?

WHERE THE HELL is Ming-Chi Kuo? WWDC : Fail. September 10th : Fail. Great track record so far. Why did we even pay attention to his non-sense in the first place? Furious.

Q1 Broadwell IGZO TB2 + all the other improvements already expected for the Haswell update sounds pretty good to me right about now. Add DDR4 and you've got a pretty darn spectacular laptop.

Ok it's more realistically going to be Q2 or Q3 2014.. (and maybe without the DDR4) but I'm starting to think that even if Apple doesn't wait for this, then maybe I should anyway. The point being, the longer Apple waits with the update, the 'older' the tech gets, the less value for money the laptop is.

I'm actually less excited about the Haswell rMBP now than I was before WWDC. It helps of course that I got a perfectly fine running 2010 MBP with SSD and upgraded RAM. I do 'need' the retina screen for work and would love the lighter weight and improved battery life, but since my need for a new machine is not super urgent, it might make sense for a better update if the Haswell one doesn't bring any surprises.

You are taking an upgrade that will probably have the same performance as the current rMBPs at best and probably worse in at least a few areas way too seriously.

Alright, I asked this before, but now that the event is done and dusted...which Haswell rMBP buyers are picking up one of the iPhones announced today?

Also, I don't mind waiting until 2015 for Broadwell. I just want my damn hands on Haswell.

Because they didn't release new MBPrs? Why would you think that? What possible shred of evidence would lead you to believe that Apple was going to do that today?

Rumors, speculation, and conjecture do not add up to evidence. If we had started to see notebook leaks like we did for the iPhone I could sympathize, but there was nothing...

I guess I'm somewhat shocked at the amount of people that thought Apple was going to release notebooks today.

Pretty sure many of us noticed the fail-trend of Kuo a while back. Obviously nonsense. You ever tried a google image search for Kuo? I wasn't completely joking earlier in this thread when I suggested he was a work of fiction. ;)

So given no new announcement and I need a new laptop for my course starting on the 24th of October, do I just buy an Air now or do I wait a bit longer?
