Oh boy here we go.

"Intel also confirmed during the event that the 14nm Broadwell processors would start shipping by the end of this year and Broadwell based laptops would start shipping in 2014."

Thanks for the wait Apple.

That's not what Intel actually said. They'll begin producing 14nm chips by the end of the year, not "shipping," and Broadwell will not actually launch until Q3. So there will be Broadwell laptops in 2014, but not until around summer at the earliest. Basically the same as this year.

Wait wait sorry I'm losing my mind. I have a course starting 24th of September (not October). That only gives me another two weeks for Haswell.

You're out of luck. No way they are releasing the haswell rMPB before the 24th of this month... unless it's a silent update!!?!?!?!?!!!

Haha... Nah, there will be no silent update. You would imagine there will be another event for ipads and the pro machines will be added onto that... Just like last year with the ipad/imac.

There is no way Apple are releasing all this other kit without some type of event.

OH! And has anybody considered they won't release the rMBP until Feb? Hey, they did the same with the ipad. Did a quick 6month turn around from 3 to 4 and are now waiting the seemingly mandatory 12 months before bring out the 5.

I wanted IGZO anyway for the battery savings, so it looks like the Broadwell rMBP is the one I'll be keeping for a few years. Though I will probably pick up a Haswell rMBP to tide me over and then sell it later.

While possible, I'm sure we'd all get super antsy/impatient to wait until then.

I was expecting a Haswell Refresh in 2014 alongside the Intel 9 Series chipset. Yes I know production begins at the end of this year but I have a feeling we're looking at Broadwell now in May/June of 2014.

Broadwell actually being in 2014 is a major surprise for me. I wasn't expecting it until 2015 and along with that we get DDR4 goodies.

So could Apple put in ddr4 in the Broadwell macs? I know that Broadwell supports it, I was just wondering if it is economically feasible.

time to update the thread title then? :p
Well it started to show up in May/June of 2013. There were slides about the Intel 9 Series chipset (Both Z9x and X9x). We're going to get SATA Express across the board and it hinted at Haswell-E with DDR4.

In addition 2014 would only see a Haswell Refresh with new Haswell processors and Intel 9 Series boards that would not be backward compatible with existing 2013 Haswell processors and boards. Though this new 2014 hardware would be compatible with Broadwell.

Haswell-E would introduce DDR4 in late 2014 and Broadwell would show up in 2015.

DDR3 was painfully expensive back in 2008 when Nehalem launched. I can expect it to be limited to Intel's HEDT platform and Xeon until 2015. I know DDR4 chips are in production right now.

I am not even remotely excited about DDR4. It will merely allow the continuation of the incremental improvements in memory speed that we've seen over the last decades. An as end user, the only difference between DDR3 running at 2133 MT/s and DDR4 running at 2133 MT/s is a slight reduction in power consumption.

I wonder after seeing the iPhone 5S today if they will include a finger sensor on the MacBook Pro. I know it is doubtful but they did focus a lot on iCloud Keychain previously and you do buy Mac Apps and Unlock a Mac just like on an iPhone.

I noticed they said it is a capacitive sensor and I imagine they could add it to the trackpad somehow.

I guess that's probably a few years away. I do expect to see it on the next 9.7" iPad.

I cannot imagine any scenario where the rMBP wouldn't come out until next year. October here we come.

Hi,
After seeing the Apple haven't released the 2013 Haswell updated Macbook Pros do you think they're waiting for Broadwell chipsets to go with an overhaul of the laptop?

I can. Just think about last year's botched premature iMac release.

Absolutely not. The first Broadwell Macs are at least 9 to 12 months away.

It's a sad situation when we're now all holding out for a Broadwell update. I feel like a battered girl who keeps going back to her abusive boyfriend in the hope he'll treat her better. Oh Apple, what you have done with my emotions...

"This is it folks, 14nm is here, it's working and will be shipping by the end of next year," said Intel CEO Brian Krzanich at IDF yesterday. That means Broadwell will ship by the end of 2014.

Yep, which means Haswell MBPs in October 2013 or February 2014. There is no way they will wait for Broadwell.
