The first Broadwell Macs are at least 9 to 12 months away.

The first Haswell sample was shown in Sep 2012; that's one year ago (and still no Haswell MBP).

The first Broadwell sample was shown in Sep 2013, so in Sep 2014 the "Waiting for Broadwell MBP Mega Thread" here should reach 10000 replies.

Damn. I think i'll pick up a basic Air to get me thru the day and wait for the Broadwell with IGZO. That's what, another 10-12 months of waiting? ;) Time to start the "Waiting for Broadwell MBP Mega Thread".

Once you buy a computer they'll always be a better one coming up.
Unless they somehow sell the rMBP Broadwell earlier than expected you should buy the Haswell edition, unless you really can wait another year.

I wonder after seeing the iPhone 5S today if they will include a finger sensor on the MacBook Pro. I know it is doubtful but they did focus a lot on iCloud Keychain previously and you do buy Mac Apps and Unlock a Mac just like on an iPhone.

I noticed they said it is a capacitive sensor and I imagine they could add it to the trackpad somehow.

No but they will add new colors to the new IGPU only macbook pro.

True. From all we've heard Haswell is going to be an excellent processor for the rMBP. And the wait is most likely now 'only' 4-6 weeks away.

I think everyone who keeps referring to an update not happening until Feb 2014 is utterly sensless. The mac pro is coming out this year with haswell and thunderbolt 2. Why wouldn't the mbp be introduced at this time as well?
They will come out when mavericks is introduced.

Calm down everyone. You'll get your computer. Then it will get old. Then you will want a new one.

At this moment, I'm not betting on any timeframe. It is already very late for a Haswell rMBP. MBP used to be the flagship product, always having the best available in that timeframe in it. Not like now playing catch up with Air.

Well it started to show up in May/June of 2013. There were slides about the Intel 9 Series chipset (Both Z9x and X9x). We're going to get SATA Express across the board and it hinted at Haswell-E with DDR4.

In addition 2014 would only see a Haswell Refresh with new Haswell processors and Intel 9 Series boards that would not be backward compatible with existing 2013 Haswell processors and boards. Though this new 2014 hardware would be compatible with Broadwell.

Haswell-E would introduce DDR4 in late 2014 and Broadwell would show up in 2015.

DDR3 was painfully expensive back in 2008 when Nehalem launched. I can expect it to be limited to Intel's HEDT platform and Xeon until 2015. I know DDR4 chips are in production right now.

Yeah, I remember them being pretty expensive back then. Just wondering, because I haven't read up on DDR4 too much, what is he performance difference between it and DDR3? I don't believe it's a big difference, but I just kinda wanted it quantified.

I'll be a part of that thread too. I'm only on this thread because I like the discussions that occur and the fact that I know someone who's getting a haswell rmbp. Broadwell rmbp is for me.

So what's the actual difference in performance in Ivy Bridge and Haswell without regard to battery life?

That's why you should either use all retina MBPs or none :D

Yes! I tried to convince her of switching to a 13 inch rMBP, but she prefers the lower weight and form factor of the Air (less weight and distributed on a bigger footprint), so guess her next Mac would have to be a retina Macbook air if that ever happens :)

I don't know if she'll be convinced easily, the 13 Air is indeed quite nice in terms of weight/portability. It feels closer to an ipad than to a laptop.
There is a saying in Germany that other mothers also have beautiful daughters^^
Just have an eye on the Sony Multi-Flip (2.880 x 1.620 IPS with an active digitizer)...

My eye was on the Zenbook UX301, but after reading about all the laptops, Macbooks turned out to be the cheapest, best package overall and most mature of all.

The retina MBP issues not withstanding, all other laptops seem like a compromise on either reliability, form factor, battery life or price.

Apple's notebooks are really vfm if you try to match it with other brands.

Yes, I just said that, buying macbooks because they're cheap. :D
