With that out of the way, doesn't it still seem odd...that they'd wait until late October to refresh the rMBP if they had done the MBA in June, assuming everything is the same? I mean, it can't really be Haswell yields..since the MBA is out and selling fine. It's not likely to be a redesign (even so, that wouldn't hold it back). It could really only be the screen. And that means either 1) They were having problems manufacturing the retina displays...which is more likely to be a first year problem, not second. Or 2) They were/are waiting on proper yields for IGZO, which is why it was pushed from June to October. Or am I missing something?

Intel do not shut down all their fabs the same week to make a transition from Ivy Bridge to Haswell. When I worked at Intel (a long time ago), the time from switching the first fab to a new generation of CPU to switching the last fab over to that generation was more than a year. On top of that, every CPU layout (and there are many for Haswell) has to go through validation, debugging, validation, debugging, validation, and so on. Each layout will need a different amount of time for validation and debugging and that difference was typically a matter of months and not necessarily just a few months. It seems perfectly obvious to me that Apple are still waiting on suitable Haswell chips from Intel because no one else is yet shipping laptops with the Haswell chips we're expecting in the MBPs.

Man, Apple surely has to be doing something with the MacBook Pro in terms of new design layout or so?

They wouldn't wait this long to update the processor and piss potential buyers and existing customers by taking so long to update right?

Hi Guys.

I bought a MacBook air 13" 128gb haswell two days ago from the apple store. Should I return it and wait for the MacBook Pro?

I used to have the $2799 MBP Retina 15" early 2013 model. I sold that for 2.2k recently on craigslist because I wanted haswell.

Now I miss the Retina screen lol. Why dont they make MB Airs with Retina

If you think you cannot get used to using the only 13" none retina MBA then return it and wait for the next 15" rMPB. They may ship out in October but we do not know so it´s the waiting game.

Personally I have a 13" MBP and using it for school work. Hate the small screen and I´m gonna buy a 15" rMBP with Haswell when they are shipped.

However it all depends on wether you can get used to the MBA and learn to enjoy it.

Something probably came up at the last minute. IGZO seems doubtful so I'm thinking dGPU, since Apple may feel that Iris Pro still isn't acceptable for them.

fool? do u even know what u need or whats the right choice for u? i guess you dont.

think before u buy.

Im serious getting tired of waiting now, but its so close I can feel it!!!
Jup me too. My visit to the Apple store yesterday and seeing that beautiful rMBP makes the wait only that much harder.
Nice reviews on your YouTube channel btw!

In any case Apple is really loosing money.

People are not happy to buy a very expensive notebook with a two year old 10th generation processor.
So they wait, hoping for Haswell soon.

These are money missed for Apple.

And it doesn't matter I will buy the 13 rMBP as soon as it comes out the new version. Delayed profits are losses for a firm (you know, money has a cost).

As far as I remember, as soon as a new processor come out Apple used to update their notebooks.

A reason for the delay is that they want Maverick with Haswell, perhaps in that way they can claim a longer battery use and obtain a better marketing effect (""UAU, new processors and new OS""). And Maverick is late because of this goddamn iOS7.

Another reason is that rMBP will use a new haswell processor not yet presented (a dual core with Iris 5200???).

While we in this forum are all in that group, I think you may over estimate how many "normal" people care about it. The vast majority of the public just want whatever does the job for them right now and isn't watching Intel's roadmap to make buying decisions.

Yeah, they just buy when they need a new computer. They don't wait for months in anticipation for a new processor architecture.

I think that we're in the minority by waiting for the update. My domestic clients haven't been bothered in the slightest I've had to set up one 13" and a 15" for two separate clients in the past 10 days or so. Another is planning on buying two iMacs very shortly.
Haswell, as highly as we anticipate it for many it will make no meaningful difference. They simply buy when they need a new machine.

the longer the wait takes, the more i`m sure something bigger than an haswell update will happen...

Well, at least for me 1300+ € rapresents quite a big amount of money.

Of course I can afford it, but before buying I'm use to look around a bit. In that way I discovered this forum and that it's better to wait a month.

For sure I'm not used to make a big purchase entering in the first shop I find and getting whatever I can get inside.

My PC lasted 4 years, and still works quite well but it's getting slower and slower and I need something more portable.
A mac, that is light-years better than a PC as operating system, expecially because its performance does not degrade over time as in windows, I expect to hold it for at least 5 years or even more. For sure I will not buy something that is already two years old.

Well Apple lost money on me. I've been waiting forever for Haswell, but a mint rMBP on eBay caught my eye and it was too much too resist (I saved over $1200 vs. retail). Coming from a 2007 MBP, this thing is incredible and I'm very happy with it. And yes, it has a Samsung screen.

Good luck to you all, I understand your pain. I'm sure the Haswells will be even more amazing.

You are right about that windows pc. But not sure about that mac comment. I have a MBP from 2010 and a MBA ivy bridge. The MBP is monumentally slow and the MBA runs in circles around it. Probably due to the ssd. But I got to thinking, could it be that it is our perception of speed that changes over time, or can a mac regress and become this slow over time?

What do you think?

Is it just me, or does the Apple store no longer let you check for availability in local stores? All I see is shipping in 24hrs.

Yeah, where'd that go? Was there yesterday, I think...

Maybe the stores are otherwise occupied with 5C. :)

Works for me. Says available in every Apple Store for pick-up today. I got excited for a second. :(

I had to put it in the cart and proceed to check out as a guest and it gave me the option to ship or pick up in store.

*Yes, I know this probably means nothing*

I called up the Apple education store yesterday to ask about something, and while I was talking to the guy I said that I was waiting for the Haswell rMBP. He said he hadn't heard anything at all about that, that he knew what Haswell was but he didn't think there was anything coming out soon.

As I said, it almost certainly doesn't mean anything, but it was interesting that he knew what Haswell was and said there wasn't anything coming out, normally they just say 'I can't tell you anything' in my experience.

Regardless, I'm beginning to think that while Haswell will obviously be an improvement, is there really going to be as much of an improvement as we're making it out to be? The Haswell vs Ivy Bridge MBA benchmark scores are within margin of error of each other, and the current rMBP still easily gets 6h of normal use.

I don't know much about IGZO or any of that. I just want a computer that won't have the same issues as the current models. My 2009 MBP has taught me to avoid first gen tech from now on :p

I would like to know of the SSD issues that MBA owners are experiencing have also appeared in the MBPs. Anyone have knowledge?

I've not experienced any SSD problems on my 2012 MBA 13" (sold) or my current 2013 MBA 11".
