You know, it could possibly be November before some of us get our rMBPs. Say it comes out October 25th, but then you have to get it custom-configured online. That's pushing things into November.

Makes me sad just to think about that.

See you know what we need, someone who works inside Apple's marketing, development, hardware, software, or design teams. They would be bound to a NDA, but I'm sure they wouldn't mind nudging us in the right direction. I really doubt this would ever happen, but it's not impossible. But seriously, right now I'm kinda on the fence about if the haswell rmbp will get an IGZO display. Perhaps Apple wants to wait until their other display suppliers start production of IGZO displays because they don't like the idea of waiting on one supplier. If Sharp has some sort of large problem in their factories, it would constrain a lot of the stock of the haswell rmbp. But with many PC companies coming out with IGZO displays, it must mean that IGZO can be mass-produced at the moment. It would fit with the theme of battery life that Apple has focused on so far this year with the air and mavericks, and if Sharp did have some sort of problem, it wouldn't only be Apple who would get burned, many other PC manufacturers would too.

Aren't you not even planning on buying the Haswell rMBP? But I don't think we will see IGZO this year. It all has to do with ramping up production.

I think we already have that with Jim Dalrymple. But no matter how much fact we know, we wouldn't be satisfied til we knew almost everything.

I have to ask you if I'm crazy... But the past 2 months, I've been having a script running on my webserver checking the Apple Store every 5 minute if the rMBP's are updated (checks if the "New" badge is on the site).

IF the Apple Store is down or the rMBP's are updated, it sends a text message to me.

Oh well.... Have to do something on the boring nights :D:cool::rolleyes:

It could quite easily be November-December, too.

No, Apple will not make a product transition during the peak holiday buying season. They made that mistake last year with the iMac and got badly burned. They will not repeat that mistake. If it isn't ready to ship in quantity by early November, it will be pushed to next year.

You're probably the reason the site got all jacked up during the 5C maintenance. :D

Yeah I'm not planning on getting this year. Perhaps I shouldn't have used that expression, but I like participating in this discussion and it seems like it could make a pretty big impact on the battery life of the rmbp. Haswell plus mavericks plus IGZO could equal around a 2-3 hours battery boost. As well, someone I know is getting a rmbp. And if IGZO is in the haswell rmbp, Apple will have a year to iron out and potential problems with the manufacturing of the display when the probably Broadwell retina MacBook Pro comes out next year.:D

I have Twitter for that, as soon as the store gets closed I get flooded by "/!\ APPLE STORE IS CLOSED /!\" tweets :D

The Mac Pro itself can't contain a fingerprint reader. A updated Apple keyboard or touchpad can.
But a notebook is a better piece of hardware to introduce a Mac Touch ID.

I have no idea why a Mac Pro couldn't have a fingerprint-touch pad on it. Could you explain why you think that?

There would be huge value in having the fingerprint-touch pads be ubiquitous on all Apple computers in the next year.

Mac Pros are towers which would probably be under a desk. It wouldn't make sense to have a finger print reader built into the hardware, it would have to be in an updated Magic Mouse or keyboard.

The old Mac Pro is over 20" tall and weighs over 40lbs. The new Mac Pro is less than half the height and probably about 1/3 of the weight. Users are far more likely to have it on their desktop -- especially if they're going to be repeatedly adding and disconnecting TB and USB3 peripherals.

Even if the MP is under the desk, it should be easy to reach down and touch the top of the unit (the obvious place to locate touch sensor would be located). A seasoned user wouldn't even need to look at his unit to reach down and touch the pad.

For users that can't or don't want to touch the pad, they can use traditional mechanisms to verify their ID.

Welcome to MR, mathieuh. :)

Haha yeah, me too :D I have notifications for "IsTheStoreDown" enabled, but it still requires me to check the store when it's back up again. And that's sooooooo time-consuming :|

Or they could just make the keyboard with a touch ID, because even though the new Mac Pro is in a pretty small form factor, most people won't take the time to move all their stuff from where they kept their old computer onto their desk. It'll fill the desk with a lot of cables, and take away a lot of usable desk-space.

I'm thinking Broadwell rMBP might not even come next year. It could be 2015. All depends on Intel.

I cant believe that I'm still following this thread.
I've read every single one of the 6k post.
And for the last 3k, there cant have been more then a total of 10 interesting thoughts or observations, that actually brings some new information, or tangible speculations to the table.

By this point I'm not sure if I'm going to be happier about the announcement of the new rMBP, or the fact that I don't have to compulsively check this thread every day. :)-

1200 posts later and this is still true.
Plz Apple I'm in agony, release the rMBP so i can stop reading this madness.
I'm afraid I'm never going to be the same after this thread ends.

Why do you keep reading this thread then? Just stop reading it, and we'll be free of one more person who feels the need to express their frustration with Apple on a MacRumours thread multiple times. There is no point in even posting that comment, as I really doubt that any Apple employee with any significant power inside of the company is reading this.

Can't afford it now or something? Broadwell won't be as big of a jump as Haswell is, at least battery-wise.

Nah, I gotta wait until I get my 2013-2014 June report card. If I have an 85 GPA or higher, I'll get it. Well actually my parents would be buying it for me. I probably could contribute if I get a job next summer.

On the talk a few pages back of a complete redesign of the rMBP, it is possible in the future yes, but with Apple's pride in the unibody design in aluminium, I can't see how they can perfect even more on the perfection we currently call the rMBP.

Unless they release the rMBP C? Going back to age of plastic with the early iBook and Macbook days? ;)

It's become a compulsion by now. To stop reading this thread would be like giving up.

Well that wouldn't be half bad, a plastic rmbp. I cannot think of a better design for the rmbp, all Apple can do is make the bezel smaller and reduce the weight, and I don't even like it without the bezel. It just looks weird without it.
