*Yes, I know this probably means nothing*

I called up the Apple education store yesterday to ask about something, and while I was talking to the guy I said that I was waiting for the Haswell rMBP. He said he hadn't heard anything at all about that, that he knew what Haswell was but he didn't think there was anything coming out soon.

As I said, it almost certainly doesn't mean anything, but it was interesting that he knew what Haswell was and said there wasn't anything coming out, normally they just say 'I can't tell you anything' in my experience.

Regardless, I'm beginning to think that while Haswell will obviously be an improvement, is there really going to be as much of an improvement as we're making it out to be? The Haswell vs Ivy Bridge MBA benchmark scores are within margin of error of each other, and the current rMBP still easily gets 6h of normal use.

Depends on what you consider to be an improvement. In my opinion, it will be a massive improvement.

Some people think the 5 to 5s for the iPhone was a small upgrade.

Jup me too. My visit to the Apple store yesterday and seeing that beautiful rMBP makes the wait only that much harder.
Nice reviews on your YouTube channel btw!

Thanks ;)

Im having to edit on my server at the moment, which isnt in the most ideal, or comfortable, place to be editing from!
I have my money ready, Apple just doesnt seem to want it just yet!! lol.
Im really hoping its next month at the latest, otherwise Im not sure if I can wait any longer!

I would feel quite happy if they can put that fingerprint touch ID into the new Haswell RMBP too. It won't be that hard cause they can already put it into a small phone. And a touchID would be very very convenient to have because we use 10 times more passwords on our computer than in the phone.

I think releasing Touch ID on Mac Pro first is a good strategy. It will be a flagship feature for iOS; rapidly deploying it on the Macs will increase the branding everywhere. Of course, a critical factor is having apps (rapidly followed by an API) for both platforms.

I don't think we should expect touch ID on a Mac yet. I'd like to have a full Siri before

Apple employees are kept in the dark until they need to know about new products. Which is usually the same time that we hear about such things.
Working for Apple he's probably interested in technology and as such knows about Haswell or he's aware that the MBA carry them.
It's tough to say how much of an improvement Haswell will bring but I'm also waiting on spec boosts and changes aside from the processor.

There is no way they aren't allocating 100% of touch ID sensor production to the iphone. Maybe next year's rmbp refresh.

I have a 2010 17" macbook pro 2.6 ghz intel core 2 duo with 4 gb 667 mhz ddr2 sdram. If I were to buy a retina 15" mid range model would this be a major upgrade over my 2010 model? Or Should I just wait for the Haswell pro? I am not in a rush really but would love to up grade..and do you guys think they will release another 17" I love the bigger screens

note: my 17" pro runs quite well battery lasts about 2 hours on average.

The Mac Pro itself can't contain a fingerprint reader. A updated Apple keyboard or touchpad can.
But a notebook is a better piece of hardware to introduce a Mac Touch ID.

I think that depends on what you are using your macbook for? Do you do a lot of gaming?
If you game a lot I don´t think you need to wait, since it´s note for sure if the Haswell will come with the Nvidia Gforce. However we don´t know and all good thinks comes to those who wait. As lone as you 17" works fine I surgest you wait to see what will be in the next haswell rMBP. If you find that the corrent rMBP is more to your liking it might even be cheaper if you wait.

If you are not a big gamer I´d wait if I was you.

It is unclear if they will make a 17" again, I hope they do but I do not think they will.

As beautiful the 17" MBP was, baring in mind this is my opinion, I doubt they will ever bring it back because I guess Apple had their reasons why they initially discontinued it.

I think if you were to buy a new Haswell rMBP, you'd be upgrading. You would be getting a smaller (by two inches) screen, but the retina makes up for that because there are more pixels per inch. Haswell would make your battery last even longer, hopefully after reading up on this thread and several other forums, 12 hour battery like its counterpart the Macbook Air. You would also be getting SSD which is more reliable than HDD in terms of speed and resistance to breaking down.

Hang in there, good things come to those who wait. And if we all wait long enough, Apple will push out a new Haswell rMBP before we know it.

Yeah, I cannot see Touch ID coming to the Mac this year. To Apple, this Haswell upgrade isn't that big. They will add it maybe next year or later on when they change more than just the internals.

I'd say it depends on what exactly the yield problems are for touch sensor are for the 4S and how quickly Apple can address them. AFAICT, all of the rumors are from analysts, which may

The Mac Pro's would make it a better candidate than rMBP, because production volume would be lower for that unit than the laptops. It all depends on how real production yields are for the sensor, and how long it takes to address them.

Mac Pros are towers which would probably be under a desk. It wouldn't make sense to have a finger print reader built into the hardware, it would have to be in an updated Magic Mouse or keyboard.

Thank you for the reply, I actually do like gaming. I mostly game on my ps3. I have played minecraft on my macbook pro and it ran quite well I was surprised. when do you think the new has well will be announced? I have been waiting about 2 months now.

You shouldn't be. Minecraft will practically run on a graphing calculator.

No but seriously it has ridiculously low hardware requirements to run well.

The most resent rumors is pointing to an late October release. Some are thinking maybe 25 October. But only Apple knows (perhaps they know) I think that the 25 October sounds like a properbal release date. I sure hope it´s released soon I too am waiting for the next rMBP.

The next rMBP will have a nice n fast SSD / flash storage and the better for normal use intel graphics. For my gaming needs the Iris will be fine for gaming. So personally I think even if the next might not have dGPU the longer battery life and faster SSD will be a better side of the coin.

I think 25 October or beginning of November is when the next rMBP will be released. It´s possible they release MP and rMBP and Maverick all on the same time but only time will tell.

While I'm all for the idea of faster SSDs, the improvement will be incremental to the point of being unnoticeable in everyday use. My girlfriend's new MBA is not visibly faster at booting/opening applications than my Crucial-M4-equipped 2010 MBP17 was, to be honest.

I cannot wait for this rMBP. Getting ready to do so much traveling, the extra battery life will be invaluable.

I remember in March, that was when I first seriously started looking at buying the rMBP. Then I'm like ah what the hell, new ones will be out in June. Then when it didn't come in June, I decided I was in it for the long haul.

Looking back on it now, I could have just bought it back in March. But I'm glad I'm waiting for the Haswell rMBP.

You know, it could possibly be November before some of us get our rMBPs. Say it comes out October 25th, but then you have to get it custom-configured online. That's pushing things into November.

Makes me sad just to think about that.

I don't even want to think about it.

I assure you that whatever UI "lag" current MBPr owners are experiencing is nothing compared to life on the hand-me-down 2007 white Macbook I'm currently stuck with. Which is better than nothing... but just barely.

It could quite easily be November-December, too.

That's why a maxed out rMBP is the only way to buy. Get in the store, get the max configuration, glad-hand the happy guy with the white apple on his chest, then go home and open your freaking wonder of technology.
