Why do you keep reading this thread then? Just stop reading it, and we'll be free of one more person who feels the need to express their frustration with Apple on a MacRumours thread multiple times. There is no point in even posting that comment, as I really doubt that any Apple employee with any significant power inside of the company is reading this.

Nah, I gotta wait until I get my 2013-2014 June report card. If I have an 85 GPA or higher, I'll get it. Well actually my parents would be buying it for me. I probably could contribute if I get a job next summer.

85 in a Toronto high school should be no problem :)

I got a 15.4'' NIB, sealed, rMBP (2.7 i7, 16gb, 512gb) for $1650 off craigslist.

Keep it or haswell?

That's the question folks.

NIB for $1650? You must have bought it from a leprechaun. Sell it for $1000 more and wait for Haswell.

The same spec system NIB goes for around $2100-2200 in my area (SoCal). Plus, I already opened it. that would take the value down to maybe $2000 resale value. I stand to profit ~$350 if I sell it. But I would have to pay like $3000 (after tax) for the same spec system when haswell releases... That is an extra $1000 out of pocket that I am not sure I want to pay, if only for a ~4-5 hour battery boost.

FWP... :)

Sell it and wait haswell. You could probably make some good money off of that.

Or any other item - IGZO, TB2, battery life.. :D

New in box

Damn it, I thought it didn't make sense how it could be sealed but not in the box:D Well I was just giving an example for something very hotly debated.

Brand new, unopened is $2800, I'm in SoCal too. Am I missing something? Private sale vs. Apple.com? But yeah, $1000 is a lot depending on your priorities.

I am speaking strictly of Craigslist prices. It is not hard to find the same spec system NIB for ~$2200 (+- $200) in SoCal.

Maybe let me ask a better question:

Would you guys rather have the ivy bridge 15.4'' rMBP (2.7 i7, 16gb, 512gb) OR, would you rather have the base 15.4'' Haswell rMBP (i7, 8gb, 256gb)?

Because, I don't really want to spend more than ~$2k for a laptop.

The RAM and SSD alone would make me pick ivy bridge. The price seems to seal the deal.

I would choose Haswell. Gen 2 over Gen 1 any day of the week.

Everyone's definitely overestimating the price you could get. The actual price you'll be going up against is $2,599.00 (educational pricing) since it's really not hard to get that discount if you're willing to put in a little effort (or are actually eligible legitimately of course). And obviously someone would have to be crazy to pay almost retail to buy from someone instead of going through Apple (even a refurb will have a 1 year warranty starting on the day of delivery). So your estimated price sounds about right to me.

Feb 2013 model? If so I guess I'd say keep it. $1650 is a pretty great deal for that machine, especially since you know it's never been used. I'd probably end up selling it, but that's because I don't always think in terms of financial sense, and I really want that battery life boost.

You might ask yourself a couple questions:
-Battery life or GPU power? The Haswell refresh will likely have more battery life, less GPU power (in 3D -- Haswell will be faster in UI+web rendering which uses the HD 4000 on the Ivy version).
-Do you need 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD? You could bring the prices closer if these are extraneous to your usage.
-Can you get the educational discount somehow?

Haha, both GSpice and powerslave12r reflect my conflicting thoughts!

No help! Kidding.. :)

But I think I am leaning towards GSpice. If I think about it, ~7 hrs of battery life is plenty for my needs, and im never really far from an outlet.

Dude you don't even know what Gen 2 is. People all over this thread highly recommend the current rMBP, refurbished or not. It's a great deal right now.

Neither do you. ;)

Empirically, I have very little reason to think gen 2 will be worse than gen 1. Depending on the usage habits of the person, 16GB/512GB may be less useful than battery life improvements + smoother graphics + tons of other silent improvements that usually come with a second gen product.

Of course, if the person in question needs the 16Gig/512Gig option (which I don't think they do since they are ready to settle for a gen 2 base model), then they should choose the current 15" that they have in hand.

That said, both options will exist when gen 2 is released anyway.

Ivy bridge for sure. And if you're one of those discrete GPU supporters, then it'll be an even better deal. That's a beast of a machine, and the price you paid was very good.

Your other option is eBay, you could probably make more that way, plus it has protections in place for sellers.

Ebay charges 10%, plus paypal 3%. That kills my profit margin. Plus, Ebay favors the buyer over seller. Craigslist is the best way to unload small inventory IMO - and has the best "seller protection," (minus the possibility that you can get robbed or murdered, lol) because once I have the cash in my hand, transaction is FINAL. :)

But I am a casual reseller, and I have used CL more times than I can count to sell items. Never had a bad experience.

Honestly, if I could find a price approaching that for a NIB 512GB/16GB machine in my area (BC), I would be gone from this godforsaken thread in a flash! For $1650... what's the debate here??

Let me put it this way: the $1000 extra you would pay for an equivalent Haswell MBP (assuming they're ever released!!) will not give you $1000 worth of improvements over the machine you already have. You are sittin' pretty, my friend.

I'm changing my vote from "tough decision" to definitely keep it. $1650 is an unreasonably good price for new in box for that machine. That's nearly how much you'd pay to upgrade the MBA to 512GB SSD. Keep it, use it, sell it for Broadwell or whenever you feel the upgrade urge and can afford to cover the difference. You can probably make back what you paid for it this time next year! Especially if the dGPU disappears and people start actively looking for high end Ivy rMBPs.

Haha, I can almost "feel" the frustration of waiting for Haswell in your words...

But ya, I am just going to keep it. If haswell becomes uber desirable to me later, I am sure I can still make a little profit off this machine.

Thanks for all y'alls input!
