I think we'll see the new pros Sep 20 or mid Oct. The 20th is because of the fact that the back to school sale ended on the 6th and apple has a 14 day return policy. Putting a pin on the 20th. But that is unlikely because they will most likely do it with the new iPads. I also think the new pros will only have retina display, and won't have IGZO. Usually apple brings the new flashy tech to the Mobile line first. So well see a IGZO MBP next year after the six is released, most likely. Now one aspect I can't figure out is the super drive. Apple stated they won't 86 it yet due to the fact that to many uses have use for it. I also don't see then holding on to the legacy pros. They could squeeze a drive in the rMBP, but that would be quite the challenge. Oh and sorry guys, PHILLY boy here. I see a ID scanner on the Mac line eventually, and it would make sense for the MBP to have, but I would not count on it this year.

The 20th sounds like a stretch but that would be nice.

Also, thats a Friday. I dont think Apple releases hardware on days other than Tues-Thurs, but hell, they have done odder things in the past. This most recent "Media" event, so so wickedly weird....no engagement from the audience whats-so-ever! A few claps from the front 2 rows, and everyone else was freaking tweeting, lol!

I mean think about it. It makes perfect sense why they didn't release it on the 10th. All the kids who just bought macs for school on sale would return then and upgrade. The 20th is crazy, but makes sense. Apple is losing money and the stocks dropping every daw without a new MBP. And, if there gonna be releasing 2 iPads the MBP, Mac Pro, an Apple TV, and possibly something else, "iMac, or (cough cough) iWatch" I don't see that all happening in one event. I could, but that would be a monster of an event

Yep. I see your point. Im wondering since this is really just an update, if they will just have a "Press Release" on their website and not have an event for the MBPs. That would be a WHOLE lot to get through in one event. We can only hope for something this month!

It's understandable... Not many females are into electronics like that. But yeah, I have a crappy Samsung Phone, so I desperately need an upgrade. And mind if I ask why you would need 16GB of RAM? Is there a certain major you're trying to get into for college? (And yes, you can always get an External HDD, it's cheaper to get than getting an upgrade.)

I'm probably going to have this machine for a long time, and one of the computers I do use is plagued by a small amount of RAM. I don't like the feeling of not being able to upgrade the RAM on a machine. So if possible, I would want to make this machine last as long as possible by putting in 16gb of RAM. I'm not that far into high school yet. Perhaps by next year.

I'm really hoping, I'm a developer in high school who has a job photo editing next month. I NEED MY MACBOOK PRO. Haha. I worked 3 jobs all summer and saved up, now the anticipation is killing me.

Ha, you're in high school? So am I. 15-inch or 13-inch? I'm guessing it's more likely to be 15-inch if you worked 3 jobs during the summer. But the minimum wage in the U.S.A. is lower than Canada. It's 10$ here.

Am gonna go for the 15inch, top range, but I won't add any upgrades to it as 512gb is enough for me, plus I get student discount for being in uni.

I think we'll see the new pros Sep 20 or mid Oct.

It really comes down to: "Is Mavericks ready to GM?". At this point, new Macbooks are not going to ship without it.
I don't think we'll see any announcements until after iPhone day on the 20th. Apple will want all the media attention focused on the iPhone. I would say that Sep 24th is the earliest possible release date.

Well more money doesn't always equal 15-inch. You could give me all the money in the world and I'd still go with the 13-inch.

Agreed. There is no way Apple is going to release Haswell rMBP's on the day all the iPhones become available and there are likely to be lines for the 5S at every store.

Well, I'm getting a 13-inch in a year.. I like the portability and I really don't need a 15-inch. There are only a few avantages the 15-inch has over the 13-inch, and most of those could go away in a year (16gb RAM, quad core processor, dgpu). I really don't care for a dgpu, I would rather take an intel integrated gpu 5100 that will probably be in the 13-inch this year. I personally always wanted the 13-inch, and I believe that it has more advantages in it's favour for the current models, and even more in a haswell model.

Well I was just guessing. It's more likely that if someone had the budget for a 15-inch, they would buy a 15-inch.

Now if you and me are both getting a 13, not only do we each get $100 off for education discount, but an i7 upgrade is 180 compared to 200, and AppleCare is 183 compared to like 270 or something crazy

So you are ordering?

And nah. I want the 13-inch form factor. I wouldn't go with the 15 just because I have the money to do so.

I'm not, but I'm just saying if I could now, I would. But since I can't, I'll just wait another year. Nevermind, I reread what I wrote. Just fixed it.

Same here. Most likely going to have this laptop for 4-5 years. after that, get a new one and give this baby to my mom. But I doubt I'll need more than 8GB of RAM for my usage (Art Major, we use a lot of Adobe Products and Final Cut Pro). And there's nothing wrong about thinking about your major in high school. ;) It's my first year in college and I must say, I'm glad I knew what I wanted to do in high school than be 'undeclared' in College.

Broadwell is so far away. I'd go crazy if I had to wait that long.

I'm probs waiting for broadwell to be honest. Haswell has already let me down (not just talking about the wait). I have no reason to upgrade now when I can hold out for a real performance bump - as you can tell I don't need more than 7 hours battery life. Even at my university

Edit: Isn't broadwell supposed to offer even more substantial battery life? Like 33% more efficient vs. haswell's 24% or something? (<--- obviously estimations)

Who said I haven't gone crazy already:D

Yeah I heard about the battery life boost too. Searching for links.......

Mavericks seems to be at least a month away from ready to go GM. At least one of MBP, iMac, Mac mini, or Mac Pro will almost certainly ship before Mavericks.

Now you're making sense.

Haswell is starting to look like old tech :D

Yeah, I remember when the 13" rmbp came out I was thinking that Apple will put a fusion drive into the rmbp for haswell, because iFixit discovered that there was an empty space inside of the 13" underneath, if I remember correctly, the trackpad.
