October

I am now leaning towards October too. I think Apple will release the new rMBP models together with the new TB2 4k displays.

No. No no no no no!

The obvious problem with dislocating the Touch-ID device from the computer is exposing the validation mechanism to man-in-the-middle (or maybe device-in-the-middle) attacks. If the path between the fingerprint and its validation has external wires, you can count on the fact that those wires will be hacked. You can never eliminate that threat, but you can do a pretty darn good job minimizing it -- by having the Touch ID device firmly installed. Right. On. The. Computer.

Well someone could just as easily take the casing off the Mac Pro and access the cables from the inside.

Just as easily, eh? :)

I think the point is that this fingerprint scanning stuff just makes more sense on portable devices, since these are exponentially more vulnerable to theft than desktop computers. I can't see Apple making it a priority to put it on Mac Pros or iMacs, at least not anytime soon.

But iPads? Definitely. Laptops? Probably, just not likely this year.

Based on previous product launch dates, I'd guess that Apple will have an event between 21-25 October ish where they'll launch the updated iPad, iPad mini, Macbook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini and new Mac Pro, possibly with a new iPod lineup.

Well not just as easily:D, but it wouldn't be too hard. Yeah, it's pretty unlikely Apple would want to put a fingerprint sensor into a desktop computer in the near future. Perhaps we'll see touch ID equipped MacBook Pros next year. I wonder how they would implement a touch-ID in a rmbp, perhaps either integrated into the track-pad or maybe the power button.

I can see Apple having 2 more events this year. There's too much left for one event. An iPad event similar to the iPhone event we've just had, and a Back to Mac type event.

I'm not expecting any new iPods this year because there's just nothing really that needs changing. Maybe an updated iPod Touch with an M7, but that just feels like something they would leave until next year. Let the 5S shine with the chip first. Then add it to the iPod range when the 'C' phone gets it next year.

Dates wise. iPad event first. Then Mac event at the end of October. Lots of new products on the market for the holiday season.

The thing is, if they are "just" going to update to haswell, why didn't they do it when they updated the airs? What is taking so long? Maybe they are doing more changes?

On the other hand the lack of any solid rumours makes me thing it's not going to be anything major.

I hear dates suggesting the 24th, 21st, etc...are these september dates or october dates?

I think the predictions at the moment are 24th of September, 2 weeks after the BTS promotion ends, and around the 22nd of October, a year after the 13" rMBP was originally released.

Apple had to get early access to the Haswell processors for the Air, but the potential chips for the Pro weren't ready in volume at the time.

Yeah, I don't know why they changed it.

Probably to save that tiny bit of space, but it might also have looked bad aesthetically with the reduced bezel.

I also want to see a battery sensor, and IR sensor, and a sleep light along with the dedicated power button. I doubt they'll all happen, but it would be nice

Couldn't hold out any longer. Bite the bullet on a maxed 13" MBA during muy visit to US. I originally wanted a 13" i7/8GB/256GB and tried to order it through B&H but they told me that Apple doesn't allow resellers to accept orders with non american credit cards... So I went to Apple store ang got the maxed MBA i7/8GB/512GB for me and the 13" MBA i5/4GB/256GB for my wife...

It sounds really strange that Apple accepts non americans credit cards and doesn't allow resellers to do so... I am not sure if the B&H guy on the phone said the truth... I think Best Buy does accept foreign credit cards since a lot of mexicans do shopping in Laredo and San Antonio...

Anyway, I am very happy with my purchase. Got a 7% discount with EPP, got half of the tax back, and saved a lot thanks to € to $ conversion :D...

Good luck for those who are still waiting... :)

I was in the Apple Store today taking my 2009 MBP to the Genuis Bar, and I made the mistake of looking at the current rMBP models and talking to a sales rep. I didn't buy one today, but now I have a major case of the I wants!

Must hold out for the refresh and non-first gen tech!

Yep, that is what I think too. I think the next event will be the iPads followed by a 'Mac' event showing off Mavericks, the Mac Pro, and the notebook line.

I think the date Apple sends out the invitations for the next event will give us a roadmap for the rest of the year.

Based on history, Apple usually sends out invitations with a minimum of seven days notice (this effectively eats up two weeks for an event). So if Apple does not send out invitations by the end of this week, we are looking at October for the next event. Honestly, I don't look for them to send out invitations this week. It is just too close to the last event.

So that takes us to October for the next event but what about the earning call? Based on history, Apple will hold their earning call the week of October 21 (probably the 24th or 25th). Can Apple squeeze in two events before the earnings call or will they hold an event, do the earnings call, and then hold their final event before Christmas?

It is interesting to speculate...

I don't see why they'd need 2. To be honest it only takes 5 minutes to talk about the new iPads. Unless they were planning on introducing a new 12" iPad, which won't be for another couple years probably.

The same reason I said way back in the day and is coming true. They're waiting for the high end integrated graphics to become available with convenient timing of Mavericks.

I'm going crazy waiting but the new MBPs with Iris GFX will come out in October alongside Mavericks. Don't expect dGPUs.

I was thinking they'd combine the iPad and Mac events into one. They'd spend the majority of the event talking about both iPad models and the Mac Pro (since they made such a big deal out of the new Mac Pro back at WWDC) and then I feel like the rMBP may just get a quick mention (maybe the iMac too).
