I don't see why they'd need 2. To be honest it only takes 5 minutes to talk about the new iPads. Unless they were planning on introducing a new 12" iPad, which won't be for another couple years probably.

I agree there's only 1 keynote left this year and just like last year's October event we'll see iPad and Macs.

I actually don't think we'll see iPads or iPod Touches until next year. I think they may do an event in February to show off the new iPad Mini with Retina Display and an update to the larger iPad and iPod Touches.

Just a feeling I have. I think in October they'll have an event where they update the iMac, Mac Pro, Mac Mini and MacBook Pro's with Haswell on all of them except the Mac Pro which will have Ivy Bridge-E. I also expect them to go over Mavericks at the event again, maybe with a UI overhaul giving it more of an iOS 7 look.

That's my prediction anyway.

Mac Pro - isn't that supposed to have "12-core Intel Xeon E5" That's not a Ivy Bridge (is it?)

It uses the Ivy Bridge-E architecture. It will get upgraded to Haswell-E probably around this time 2014.

To give some more information. Intel sells Consumer stuff and Workstation stuff based off the same core architecture. You have Sandy Bridge and Sandy Bridge-E, then you have Ivy Bridge and Ivy Bridge-E. They just released Haswell for consumer stuff (Laptops, Desktops) but we won't have Haswell-E until this time next year. The -E stuff is for Enthusiasts, Workstations and Servers. It is significantly different in that it offers more cores (4 to 12) while the normal stuff only offers 4 Cores maximum. And it doesn't include a GPU on the CPU package like the consumer versions do.

I think all those leaks about the new 9.7" iPad back with the smaller bezel are probably true and IMO Apple would be killing themselves in the tablet market if they had the same models two years in a row during this Christmas season.

Apple's revenue from the iPad is more than five times what they make from all their Macs combined. The October event may include Macs but will not be primarily about Macs. It's going to be iPads big time.

You're most likely right.

The damaged factory produces 2Gbit DRAM chips. If I recall correctly, the MBPs use 4Gbit DRAM chips.

The article seems a bit sensationalist to me. I don't expect the bump in DRAM prices to last long or be severe.

Yeah you're right, they do use 4Gbit DRAM chips.

Looks like my prediction for October 25th for MacBook Pro refresh sales may be coming true lol

I think October 25 is probably the least likely date for the refresh. Historically, Apple does their earnings call on October 25 and October 25 is a Friday. If they do a Mac event, they are not going to do it on the same day as an earnings call. They have not done a silent refresh on an earnings call either. Lastly, Apple normally does a refresh during the beginning of the week so it gets press before the weekend.

I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just going by what they have done in the past...

To all those thinking it'll be 2014 before they are updated, just remember the Mac Pro has been confirmed by apple as coming out before the end of the year.

Do we really think apple would release the pro before they have bought their line of pro notebooks out with Haswell? My prediction is a mac event early October, with the Mac Pro being the star but the MacBook pros also getting a refresh.

That's why I predicted the 22nd.. :D

As much as I'd like to see the Haswell MBP this month, I'm thinking it may be better if it does arrive in October.

Why? Because a silent refresh is pretty much a confirmation that there's not that much of a change from the current MPB -- i.e., Haswell, and not much else. Holding off on the release until October brings the possibility (but by no means a certainly, or even a likelihood) of there being "more" -- more noteworthy features. I can see a Mac event with the Mac Pro, and a tag-along portion with something like "and we've put TB2 in the MBP, too" (as well as other "stuff" that has been covered in the last 7000+ posts).

Consider the pot freshly stirred! :D

If the new Mac Pro is ready to release in October and the Haswell MBP is not, then I absolutely think Apple would release the Mac Pro before the MBP. I continue to believe that Apple will release each of the Mac Pro, Mac mini, iMac, and MBP whenever each is ready (but not during the peak holiday shopping season) without regard to when the others are being released, when Mavericks will be released, or when iPads will be released. Obviously, they would not have releases on three different days in the same week, but they could easily have one release per week for several weeks.

alternative to 15 inch rMBP?

I've been waiting for the update since April now and I am thinking about buying a Windows machine again. My old early 2008 MBP has been revived 3 times already, and now the the backlight of the screen has given up.

Unfortunately, it seems that other laptop makers haven't put out Haswell either? I am talking about Macbook Pro comparable machines of course. Lenovo has announced updated thinkpads but they are only available in November.

I need a 15 inch laptop, with Haswell processor, dGPU,16gb RAM and 512gb SSD. Does a haswell laptop like this exist at this point? I am looking for something that is comparable to the MBP form factor, not a huge gaming laptop.

Thank you for your recommendations :)

Have you considered that this is because the particular Haswell processors are not yet available in shippable quantities?

Question is how much will be the cut on price rumored?

Well I don't think we'll see a cut on prices. I hope so for my bank account but I don't think so. I'm pointing on 15'' rMBP with 16GB, at least 2.6 GHz and 256GB SSD. Even only 100 $ could be a pretty savings
