Really fancying an IGZO screen, even more so now that fujitsu this morning have released details about their "retina busting" laptop packing an IGZO screen. Apple surely wouldnt allow Fujitsu to outdo them no?

IGZO is a nailed on cert for me...

The Fujitsu laptop was announced during Computex, and will come out in Japan only. We know nothing about availability elsewhere, including the US.

And it won't outdo Apple anyway. Some computers also get some specs better than Macs, but the thing is, it's about the whole, and not the parts. The Fujitsu Lifebook UH90, which is the laptop you're probably talking about, has a 3200x1800 IGZO display and is very thin and light. However, it has a slow and sluggish HDD instead of the ultra-fast SSDs that come with Macs these days. And it's red. Red! Seriously, Fujitsu?

I think you mean Computex, not WWDC.

If youre not announcing, you run the risk of potential customers waiting for haswell switching to other brand.
Id say announce refersh, but give a timeframe when it would start shipping.
Just my opinion

No, that won't happen. People in general don't even know what Haswell is, and they just don't care. There are not crowds of people waiting for Haswell Macs outside of these nerd-packed Internet forums we live in.

But if Apple announces it and doesn't ship it, then people will be aware that a Haswell Mac is just around the corner, and will wait until it's released so they can buy it.

Yes, I meant it. I've just changed it. It would be very strange if Fujitsu managed to have released a laptop last week at WWDC... not only because it's an Apple event, but also because it's going to happen next week...

Hybrid. You know, just the "revolutionary" tech in the iMac.

Yes, I think it'll be a hybrid drive.

Not quite like the iMac, though. The Fusion Drive in the iMac works differently from the hybrid drives of most cheap ultrabooks. In addition, the Fusion Drive has at least 128 GB of flash memory, enough for using flash memory for nearly all tasks, while those hybrid drives only have enough flash memory for cache (32 GB usually). The speed difference is noticeable.

I don't understand why anyone would say there is a supply constraint on displays. Retina systems ship immediately now. Why would a Haswell system be delayed because of retina?

It's just a pipe dream, not very likely at all, but maybe it's because it's a redesign of the display, I.E. a reduction of the Bezel

The bezel is already very thin on the rMBPs. I think it would be more along the lines of IGZO or a 2880x1800 13" display and a 3300x2100 15".

How does it differ from the Momentus, for example?
(Do you expect a laptop with an IGZO panel to be cheap, though?)

Very valid point - I do agree. I just don't agree with the "slow and sluggish" moniker, so to say.

The Momentus is a HDD with a 24/32GB SSD cache, nowhere near the performance of Fusion or pure SSD.

Again - as a fellow 100% SSD user I do agree it's "nowhere near the performance" - however, hybrid drives are not slow and sluggish, which is the exact quote I turned against.

They ship immediately now because they've been building inventory for the last 6 months....

Any configuration in the apple store currently probably exists in some warehouse somewhere in the country by now since they've been available for 6 months.

Yeah. I checked out the last time I visited the Mothership. It's a bit smaller than the cMBP. I'd like it to be next to nothing. But what you say sounds nice too.

Lenovo, Razer and Hp have haswell quad cores shipping as early as next week.

The only thing apple could be held up by is the actual retina display or they are hold out for the double bandwidth thunderbolt.

That's been on every PC rumor site for the last two weeks.

Any idea on what video card will they use ? have any of the specs leaked? like how much memory etc?

Model staying the same?

It wouldn't surprise me to see a two tier lineup with the 15" rmbp creating more of an entry level verson and "pro" version. The entry level using being the 4850HQ 2.3 w/ iris pro 6mb L3 and the "pro" being the 4900MQ 2.8 4600 w/ 7xxm dgpu 8mb L3. SSD size and RAM configurable for each. Maybe starting prices at something like $1899 and $2199 (8gb ram, 256gb ssd).

If the cmpb doesn't get updated its price drops to $1499.

where do you know about that, do you have any source to back that up?

current new is that its going to pack the 780m, she is the new whore in town even acer is getting it

and suddenly...
Woke up, fell out of bed
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup
And looking up, I noticed I was late
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke
And somebody spoke and I went into a dream

thats a good one :D

I can't see the Thunderbolt 2 happening until 2014 based on earlier comments that Intel would be planning production then...still, leaves a bit of a temporary window but no need to hold out on getting a Thunderbolt (1) display with this upcoming next gen rMBP, since it will take another revision on the rMBP and Thunderbolt display to get '4K' (both)...my money on any significant delay could be be attributed to the Igzo display. Although I've heard mixed comments on the current Thunderbolt display (hassle when docking, other odd behaviors)- my other thought was to go on the cheap for external display (a $240 27") given the mid-tier tech and reported problems, but I'm on the fence (Want that nice display if I can get it).

Whatever happens, I won't feel too bad getting in on this gen..but expect a 5 year life cycle before considering next upgrade. Any comments or thoughts appreciated.

Been doing a small countdown for WWDC in this thread for quite some time now.
Really happy to say, the wait will be over tomorrow, aka 1 day :D

Here's hoping that all eager members in this thread get to see their rMBP they have been waiting tomorrow, and hopefully be able to purchase it within a couple weeks.

Was an awesome 'waiting mega thread' guys, really great speculation and feedback from everyone. Rest assured, no more rumors, just leaks within the next 24 hours and then the big Keynote (which I hope will please)!

I would laugh if they don't release it and we'll have to continue the thread aye ;D I'm probably going to get threatening PM's now haha.

But, I'm ordering myself one! So bring me home some bacon.

But Iris Pro costs just as much as adding a 750m, so it wouldn't really let them make a cheaper 15".

It looks like there is about an $80 price different between the 4600 and iris pro chips at 2.3/2.4 speeds. I've never seen nvidia publish pricing for their mobile gpus but I can't imagine it would be more than 100-150 tops so you could be right. It wouldn't be worth it to price the two models within $100.
