Amazon.co.uk is out of rMBPs - and the US one only sells the 13" base rMBP. Only way to buy is through resellers on Amazon.

Also, MacMall and MacConnection is low on stock (MC are sold out on all 13" except for 2.6/8/256.

So looks like it's going out of stock across the line.

is this it? or could all the sell outs really just be the result of the 5S? there's been so many false alarms, i don't want to be disappointed again!

I guess the simple solution would be to assume this isn't "it" and we'll be pleasantly surprised if it does drop this month

That doesn't make much sense to me - so you spend a ton of money on a phone and you then decide you want to spend MUCH more money on a computer all of a sudden? :D wouldn't be my thinking! but maybe others have some deeper pockets, I don't know.

I don't understand your reasoning. You think Apple should delay the computer because they don't want to put too many new products close together? they are already updating iPhones and iPads within 2 months of each other (assuming october is the month of iPad) I don't see how the macbook would be any different.

No, I was just replying to the fact that you said people might be buying macs to accompany their iphones - and I personally don't think that's the case because I know that I personally wouldn't do that because I would just have spend a lot of money on a phone, and wouldn't have more money laying around for a very expensive rMBP .. that's all :)

Is the fact that all these retailers are out of stock of rMBP mean that there is a good chance the haswell rMBP will be released soon? And silently?

Has this been the trend with past releases?

I reckon if it's going to be a big update (i.e. redesign - as unlikely as it seems), Apple will wait to hold a press event and likely unveil it alongside the new iPads etc.

If it's just going to be a spec bump (Ivy Bridge -> Haswell), then there is a possibility that they could just do a silent update.

The main theories/rumors are all pointing to a mid/late October refresh. Just keep your eyes peeled until then and just wait and see - everything you see here is not based on fact - just rumors or theories.

We have no way of telling until Apple decides to tell us.

Oh I get where your coming from. my first post was worded poorly. I was thinking that the MBPs could be selling out because Apple is too busy stocking up on iPhones. That was my original theory. I could see that causing a bit of delays, but not this many. This is all guesswork on my part.

In general stocks of old models will dry up leading up to a product refresh, yes. At the moment it proves nothing, but it's still very interesting. If they start to go out of stock everywhere over the next week that's definitely too early for a late October launch (Apple would never intentionally create a nearly month long gap in sales).

It's certainly the first actual sign we've seen since those Geekbench results, assuming the trend continues.

Silent update, but soon -> just a CPU bump
October release -> Maybe a bit more

Not sure which one I prefer...

iMacs are also sold out on Amazon (US). that is strange since they are the only Macs not running low on the Apple store

I prefer silent update with just a cpu bump.

That way I get it sooner! And my current 15.4'' rMBP will hold it's resale value better! :)

I've got a message into my guy over at Foxconn. We'll see if he can shed some light on this.

EDIT: He just got back to me. dGPU's for everyone, even the cMBP. All models slashed by $400. Fingerprint sensor in the 13" pros, retinal scanners in the 15". BTO options for breathalyzer and new iRectal Scanner (TM). 17" MBP coming back - dual Xeon CPU's, Doubles as leaf blower. Apple stickers discontinued to save costs. New models being loaded onto boats as we speak.

There we have it folks. Thread closed.

So when do we now think the rMBP is likely to come??

A few weeks before Mavericks with the free upgrade offer??
Alongside Mavericks?

Is there even an event scheduled for October?? If so, when??

October 15th has been rumored to be confirmed for Mac and iPad event. Mavericks likely to follow a couple weeks after, or less likely, to be launched with new Macs.

For all of you who are saying it's out of stock, or low stock on amazon/best buy. That's true. And it also should be obviously true. They aren't buying any more of the current models, because they know the new models will be coming their way in another 2 weeks. Apple themselves are still selling the current model (because it's all they can sell), until likely a few days before the new model is out.

So only when you see apple out of stock, do we know it'll be coming really soon :D

Sorry I was wrong (damn mobile internet).

rMBP 13" is not (I repeat, not) out of stock on Amazon.it, seller Amazon.it

Have you ever considered November or December as a release date? :p

Test, Test, 1 2 3... I love my new MBA... :D

Hope those thoughts help you to further enjoy your MBA until Haswell rMBP releases in October. Then say hello to "buyers remorse."

Apple has done fairly large refreshes before as silent updates.

The 2011 MBP was a silent update:

- First MBPs with quad core processors
- First announcement and shipment of Thunderbolt
- Switched from NVidia to AMD GPUs on the 15" and 17"
- Switched to Intel graphics on the 13"
