If only there were some place a guy could go to stay informed of all these mac rumors.

Well nothing is sure but it's a very very probable outcome ;)
It's just adding all indications: Mac Pro 'this fall', Mavericks 'this fall', rumored event on october 15th, new iPads released every year while the longest wait was 362 days (which would be october 20th tops if the record won't be broken), iMac is already 15 days too late (if you're not counting the exceptional long wait of 577 days for last redesign), Thunderbolt Display is late too and is holding it's record at 737 days and still counting while the second longest wait was 651 days (probably postponed for Thunderbolt 2 to accompany the Mac Pro). Only the Mac Mini has a longer wait left according to the average of 381 days (48 days left = november 8th tops)

And most notable: rMBP (15") took 247 days for Ivy-update (we're now at 220 days) which would be october 18th if we're in for the same wait + Apple Q4 earnings conference has been held during mid/end october for the last years, october 18th twice! (http://investor.apple.com/results.cfm). So by just adding all this we're looking at a huge refresh mid/end october :) I'm not saying all this will be announced/released at the same event (and with that I emphasize the iPad and possible Apple TV) but this topic is about guessing anyway, and I'm making a well considered guess: mid/end october!

WOW! very informative post! Thank you!

I don't think Apple will update the MBP this close to OSX Mavericks' release while the iMac, Mac Mini and Mac Pro are due for an update too. Exactly why would Apple update the MBP now and not the Mac Mini and iMac? We can be fairly sure Apple will update the MBP, iMac and Mac mini at the same moment (they don't like to update their site too often, since the new products must be as long as possible on their front page, and now it's occupied by the iPhone ;)).

We can be 99% sure Apple will release OSX Mavericks and the new Mac Pro at the same moment/event. An event with only OSX and the new Mac Pro? Why not a Mac event introducing OSX Mavericks, Mac Pro, Macbook Pro (if they're going to cut the price of the rMBP than they'll sure want to emphasize it in an event), Mac Mini and iMac? I think this is the most probable/realistic way it'll happen, so don't get your hopes up for september and start counting towards mid/end october ;)

That would basically be a giant Mac event, which wouldn't make too much sense if Apple wanted to unveil new iPads there too.

What do you guys think about 13" or 15" to have at the university?

I like the 13 because of its size, but I can't overlook the fact that the 15 is more powerful.

We are going to work with like some video editing in final cut pro X, PS, Illustrator, cinema 4d etc, I mean im not looking to work with heavy rendering on the laptop anyway but it would be nice if you could do some 3d on it.

Is the 15" to big to carry around in a backpack?

I'm not endorsed by East Pak but I used one to carry a 15" cMBP and it fitted just fine, even with a sleeve.

I used to carry my 13 inch MBP in a Tumi backpack and when bought the 15 inch rMBP it did not fit, so had to switch backpacks. It all depend on what backpack you use. I went through my 2 last years of night law school with it and was a little big to carry, but can be done.

Recently sold it and bought the 13 inch rMBP, which was not released by the time I bought the 15, and am very impressed and happy with it. It is the perfect size for school portability with the se awsome retina display.

Some are commenting that there would be too many products to fit into one October event. I'll let you decide:

1. Introduction and Information: 5-10 minutes

2. Mavericks: 10-15 minutes

3. Mac Pro and Thunderbolt displays: 10-15 minutes

4. iMac: 5-10 minutes

5. Macbook Pro: 5-10 minutes

6. iPads: 15-20 minutes

Total: 65 ± 15

I think the Mavericks presentation will probably be shorter. They barely talked about iOS 7 on Sept 10th. Also I'd switch the Mac Pro and the MBP (MBP first and Mac Pro last)

It's not a question of time. It's a question of focus and attention.

As long as there's a video with Jonny Ive's knightly face saying the words "chamfered edge" I can sleep happy.

It think if you cut the Mac times in half and tripled the iPad time it would be more accurate. But in 2013 I'd take it ;)

At the US Apple Store, MBP availability has returned to "Within 24 hours" for all standard configurations.

Here in the UK all standard configuration Macs (except the iMac which is 'within 24 hours') are still shipping in '1-2 business days'.

I really do hope something comes along mid-October or I'm going to find it difficult to work on my current PC which is slowing down more and more every day.

Well, that's if they decide to do that. They spent basically a whole event on two iPhones, shouldn't two iPads have the same kind of treatment?

Yup, that's what exactly what I was saying. The bulk of the event would go to the iPads, or at least half.

No. It'll probably be 1/3 iPads, 1/3 Mac Pro, 1/3 Rest of Macs

Just because iPads are good sellers, and because they can speak about them for a whole hour doesn't mean that they will. When else do you expect them to launch and talk about the entire Mac lineup?

It literally took them 30 seconds to talk about the cMBP - update - last WWDC (2012)

I meant a specific event for iPads, and one for Macs. It's pretty unlikely for that to happen, as Apple would want the media attention on the event so some of that passes over to the macs.
