Apple has done fairly large refreshes before as silent updates.

The 2011 MBP was a silent update:

- First MBPs with quad core processors
- First announcement and shipment of Thunderbolt
- Switched from NVidia to AMD GPUs on the 15" and 17"
- Switched to Intel graphics on the 13"

I didn't know that - now I don't know what I prefer ;) I'd like it announced in an apple event because it must be getting some awesome updates if it does......... but I would also like the silent one with significant upgrades just so I can actually get one as soon as possible without millions of others wanting it with me (Which would happen if it was in an event)

iMacs are also sold out on Amazon (US). that is strange since they are the only Macs not running low on the Apple store

Correct! I just checked Amazon.com (US) and there are 8 left from a 3rd party and ZERO available from Amazon....this is the 15" Early 2013 model of course. The 13" is showing in stock for the time being.

There's nothing to announce this time around except faster SSD speeds and longer battery life. Although I don't think that would stop them from announcing it.

I hope they announce it just so that I can hear what they say about Iris Pro. I would *Rofl* if they just slipped a silent update out there with no dGPU and only Iris Pro

I've got a message into my guy over at Foxconn. We'll see if he can shed some light on this.

EDIT: He just got back to me. dGPU's for everyone, even the cMBP. All models slashed by $400. Fingerprint sensor in the 13" pros, retinal scanners in the 15". BTO options for breathalyzer and new iRectal Scanner (TM). 17" MBP coming back - dual Xeon CPU's, Doubles as leaf blower. Apple stickers discontinued to save costs. New models being loaded onto boats as we speak.

There we have it folks. Thread closed.

Man, what a joke. Apple's got a lot of nerve calling this a PRO laptop, considering it doesn't even have slot to bake frozen pizzas in.

Guess I'm waiting for Haswell.

I love all this "stock issue" talk with Amazon. Amazon always sees their stock go up and down. They don't keep a lot of Mac's unhand ever. This is nothing new at all.

uniquely common

No, that's why people are putting up screen shots from a bunch of different vendors. I'm not saying it means anything, if that's what you're getting at.

At the US Apple Store, MBP availability has returned to "Within 24 hours" for all standard configurations.

They are coming when th mac pro arrives at a pro/Mav event. Everyone just calm down. They will all be released when TB2 is ready. Given that apple announced the MP will be realeased towards the end of this year, it's going to be sometime soon.

CTO shows 3-5 days :)

Yes, but the BTO MacBook Airs also show 3-5 days. Apple is keeping low inventory on Macs. Inventory is going to go up and down. Eventually it will mean new Haswell rMBP's but remember that saying about a broken clock being right twice a day...

Well when so many retail shopping outlets saying they are out of stock of the rmbps, it must be an indicator of something.

Realistically the retailers probably just know what we do: That an October refresh is extremely likely (I'd go as far as to say it's basically certain unless a cargo ship full of MBPs sinks or something). As a result they'll try to minimize extra stock so they don't get left holding unsellable units. I highly doubt they have any inside information on the refresh.

If I had to guess, and this is only a guess, I'd agree that retailers don't know anything too. Apple almost certainly keeps them in the dark to keep rumors down and purchases flowing.

Retailers independently have to be smart about their own stock. They can't keep high stocks of Macs or risk losing money - at any time of the year. Thus their stocks will vary at different times as we've seen over the summer for example.

Retailers can guess if new Macs are coming but their guesses are as good as ours. Many retailers get stuck with old models. I've seen MacMall and Amazon selling previous versions of Macs for months.

New Macs are coming in 1-6 weeks. Low stocks now are either a coincidence, like they have been several times this summer, or reflect retailer's guesses about an imminent update. But they are just that: guesses.

I don't think Apple will update the MBP this close to OSX Mavericks' release while the iMac, Mac Mini and Mac Pro are due for an update too. Exactly why would Apple update the MBP now and not the Mac Mini and iMac? We can be fairly sure Apple will update the MBP, iMac and Mac mini at the same moment (they don't like to update their site too often, since the new products must be as long as possible on their front page, and now it's occupied by the iPhone ;)).

We can be 99% sure Apple will release OSX Mavericks and the new Mac Pro at the same moment/event. An event with only OSX and the new Mac Pro? Why not a Mac event introducing OSX Mavericks, Mac Pro, Macbook Pro (if they're going to cut the price of the rMBP than they'll sure want to emphasize it in an event), Mac Mini and iMac? I think this is the most probable/realistic way it'll happen, so don't get your hopes up for september and start counting towards mid/end october ;)
