They just got a quick mention when there was an event to showcase other things. They were not the raison d'être of the event.

Of course - I hope I didn't seem to imply that? A new, faster port won't be the single reason for an event, but its certainly been part of event material.

My machine is my main tool for fairly intensive design and animation work, so it tends to be worth it to stay relatively current.

I'm torn on whether I should wait for haswell, or for something beyond it. I have a 2011 mbp which was an amazing step up from the 2008 mbp i had previously. But the performance increases in the past few years (at least on paper) seem to be quite incremental.

So on the one hand, Haswell isn't going to give me the performance doubling I've experienced with previous upgrades. But on the other hand, I haven't heard much to suggest that the recent focus on battery life and igpu performance is going to change anytime soon. So if its going to be a while yet before laptop chips double the 2011 mbp's performance, I might as well jump on board and at least enjoy the retina screen.

Is anyone facing a similar conundrum?

I have to admit, there is a bunch of people out there who is much more frustrated and perhaps has been waiting much longer than Haswell rMBP waiters- the retina iPad Mini Crowd.

A distant shout out to the ipod Classic hopefuls too. The most hopeful people you'll see walking the earth.

iMac's didn't slip delivery time prior to their update.

But CTO rMBP's showed 1-3 days some weeks ago, and 1,5 week ago it showed 3-5 days, and now shows 4-6 days. So it's definitely going low on their stocks, so they're only stockpiling base-models.

But is now back to 3-5 days in the UK store, so maybe nothing today :(

I think the longer wait has been for the iPad 5. A lighter/thinner full-sized iPad that is Mini-like. When the 4th-gen iPad came out last year, many people skipped that to wait on what they knew were coming a year later.

True, true. I won't mention Mac pro *doh* guys cause they at least know what to expect.

Very highly doubt 4K will be in this new release for the rMBP, especially since the price would undoubtedly go up and this would take more battery life from the Haswell-power-saving processor.

I already said this. IGZO would increase battery life. Higher resolution, and also likely to drastically increase battery life. Everytime the screen is static (not moving) the screen is not being "actively" powered. It simply displays the same image. Therefore theoretically it increases battery life substantially.

I would certainly hope that the eventual IGZO switch doesn't involve a move to 16:9 on Apple's machines. It's a terrible ratio for most actual work, which requires vertical space instead of horizontal. So far I've only seen IGZO panels discussed in the 16:9 ratio, but I would like to hope that Apple has the buying power to insist on 16:10 screens.

I have no doubt apple would be able to get IGZO (4K or not) in 16:10

i think all this dgpu talk is kind of confusing becuase i just feel like unless apple literally redesigns the macbook pro, what's the point of takin gout the dgpu? all the stuff is there. If I were Apple, I'd give the customers the option of a dgpu and actually work with nvidia to squeeze more performance out of their parts

OSX Mavericks to drop Oct. 16th. Heard it here first…

Wonder if this is any indication of the rMBPs to follow soon

Oh wow. That makes things better. I think most of us were thinking the 24th here.

I guess I could see a silent release tomorrow or next week, unless the iPad event is going to be on the 15th.

I was looking more towards the 24th as well...but now this information above is spreading on twitter, so we never know.....

THe event and the release are two different things. I dont know his source, I just listen to their podcasts weekly. He posted this on twitter. Go to his twitter page or hell tweet him. The Event is to announce products, no necessarily the announcement that Mavericks is being released. SO the event can still be on Oct 15th and Apple then turnaround and release OS X Mavericks on the 16th. iOS 7 was not released on the day of the Media event.

Well if some guy on Twitter said it then it must be true.

HAHA! Exactly...again, just a rumor floating around out there........take it for what its worth

Well if the 24th, I was wondering how things would work. An event on the 15th and then Mavericks on the 24th just didn't make much sense.
