the reason why rMBP will not release tomorrow is simple.

"Just talked to a Dell rep about release date :

"Sorry but right now we still haven't got the motherboard and chipset orders from Intel so we can offer this model line, in fact all 4th gen models we currently carry are offered as a fixed build due to shortage of parts.
latest word from Intel is they will fulfill all backlog orders by the 1st or 2nd week of October, this is actually not just us here at Dell but other manufacturers as well."

so looks like about a month. "

I just view it as me being uncomfortable with 128GB of storage, much like going with 16GB on an iOS device. Even if you don't store much media on there, you're not left with very much space after needing to have some extra space for the SSD to run well.

I just think that's it like buying a toy and then not being able to use it. At least with 256GB, you have some breathing room.

My iPhone has 6GB free out of 16GB, so I have ample breathing room. How you could think that 61.3GB free out of 128GB isn't breathing room baffles me.

Well, that doesn't really mean anything. We all know Apple can order as much as they want. I think if not tomorrow, we are definitely seeing it in the next two weeks.

It's quite possible yes

but is it not also a possibility that the reason intel is short on supply is that they might have been prioritizing other companies or deals?

The US Apple Store now has BTO times of 4-6 days, so I'm cautiously optimistic that we may see a silent release tomorrow.

Oh come on, I thought you were more sensible than that. :D

I distinctly recall you saying a couple pages back that the BTO times mean nothing. :D

Ah but I want the rMBP so bad. At least some of you guys already have a spare Mac. Mine's tied to my desk so I can't take it to school. :(
I can't wait to not use Windows/Linux.

Well, you maybe on to something! I can recall seeing that for the retina MacBook Pro back on 2-9-2013. Then on 2-13-2013, the new current models came out. I don't think it's happening tommrow, but I think there is a 90% chance that it will happen at some point during this month. Once October is over with, Apple typically finshes their product lineup for the year, with no new products until next year. Can't recall any Apple product being announced in November. Other than products like the iPad Mini last year selling on a launch day of November 2, but being announced back on October 23.

The first question is: Do you need 256GB of SSD? My guess is that Apple will probably retain the 128GB base configuration in order to keep the base price of the 13" MBP as low as reasonably possible.

I don't think so. If you're tight on money, I'd just go with the i5 coupled with 256GB. But don't expect 256 to be the base option.

I think the i7 is only worth it if you really need the power and/or you're already maxing out everything else. Although that doesn't mean I won't go against my own advice!

I honestly think going with 128GB on a Mac is a joke. I would never consider anything less than 256.

I more meant upgrade like the current 2.5ghz vs 2.6ghz. Or is that just the 2012 version and the early-2013? It's been a while since I've bought a Mac, so I couldn't remember if the two i5 speeds are normal. I don't need an i7 for web surfing, watching movies, and doing schoolwork.

I prefer the 256gb because this will probably be my sole computer (assuming my current one is beyond repair; it's bricked). My mid-2009 had a 160gb HDD originally and now has a 500gb HDD, so I have more than 128gb worth of files in my Time Machine backup. I like having music and pictures on hand, and I need space for the current semester papers and such (after finals I move them to an external).

So I guess if the haswell rMBP only has one i5 option I'll pay for the 256gb BTO. Are those generally in stores, or should I order online (or more like get my mom to because taxes are lower in Maryland compared to Kansas, hehe)?

Anyone going to sleep feeling like a kid waiting for Santa? :D

Will he, won't he? What will he bring? Do I deserve it? Do I need it? Did I work hard for it? But there are others out there who work so much harder, do I deserve Haswell? Do I deserve retina? Do I..

I have to admit, there is a bunch of people out there who is much more frustrated and perhaps has been waiting much longer than Haswell rMBP waiters- the retina iPad Mini Crowd.

A distant shout out to the ipod Classic hopefuls too. The most hopeful people you'll see walking the earth.

No one is more frustrated and hopeful than the xMac crowd!!!

Screw it, I'm setting up a Christmas tree just in case.

i think it would make sense that they would not want to release everything at the same time. new macbook pros, new mac pros, and new ipads, not to mention downloads of new mavericks. it'd make sense to have some osrt of staggering

I want everyone here to pause for a moment. Just take a moment's pause, take a deep breath - now, just think that we check in a few more hours and the haswell's have been released. Just indulge in the possibility. Let your mind wander.

Felt good right?

Gnite.

I have the feeling of a release also, but not the rMBP. I think tomorow will be the release of the mac mini

Without major updates to OS X UI scaling (which clearly aren't coming this year since Mavericks is already widely in use) a 4K display (let's say 2x 1920x1200) would produce an unreasonably small user interface on a 15" display. The only way this is going to happen without major software changes to UI scaling is in a 17" model, where 1920x1200 was already the standard resolution.

At least the option for a 4K support would be helpful for those who plug in a large screen at home. So don't dismiss it because of screen real estate. I'm planing to do just that.

I'll be forced to play it cool either way.

For starters, I've got an Apple Store connection who can hook me up with the sweet 15% friends 'n family discount, which is obviously significant on a $2K+ purchase. The hitch is that brand new products sometimes aren't available that way for a few weeks (i.e. depends on stock/availability).

Second, I'm absolutely committed to going full Mavericks with this computer, and I don't want to bother having to upgrade my OS after two weeks if the first MBPs happen to be shipping with Mountain Lion.

And third, I'm waiting to find out how much money I can get from my employer to determine how crazy I'll be going with BTO upgrades. (Picture my eyes aglow with gigabytes and dollar signs as you read this.)

Letting you all be the proverbial guinea pigs in the Haswell Experiment is just icing on the cake! ;)

Clearly the delay is due to the US government shutdown ;)

Sorry couldn't resist since that's all the news coverage and social media right now.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow! Not that I'll be buying immediately, but I can start reading reviews!

I am eagerly waiting for Macbook Pro but I don't think they are coming tomorrow , Apple store is showing 4-6 BTO for everything including newly released iMac and Macbook Air.
Unless they are planning to update entire line tomorrow BTO lead time are not indicative of anything significant.
