Ha! "A simpler time..."

Try NO cellphones, NO pagers, and heck, no answering machines! Prior to the 90s, you could quite literally "get away from it all" just by going outside. And somehow, work still got done. Amazing, innit?

FWIW, my first real PC (not counting my older brother's hand-me-down ZX-80) had a 52MB hard drive, which was just about enough space for MS-DOS and "Wing Commander 2"--a state-of-the-art gaming rig ca. 1990.

I keep wishing I could take Grand Theft Auto 5 back in time to show the 14-year-old version of myself what was in store... just to see the look on my pimply, slack-jawed, awe-struck face. ;)

Yeah, I know where you're coming from. But that's all I had experienced. When many of us currently in our mid-20's right now long for the simpler times, we are talking about a world before the day of smartphones/social media, etc.

It's hard to disconnect anymore.

----------

not expecting any new MBP till october 22nd at the earliest then.

I think rMBPs/Mavericks on the 22nd sounds good, with maybe Mavericks coming out on the 24th or something.

But think about this...those of us that get the rMBP customized might not receive until the last days of October or possibly beginning of November. Oh my!

We should all just be glad the date is approaching. I remember back in June when my laptop bit the dust and no new rMBP came at WWDC, I knew I wouldn't be able to wait until October. But here I am.

Hold your horses, Mark Gurman's pretty sure the iPad wouldn't be released on 11/11

Site with inaccurate Apple launch date track-record claims Monday, Nov. 11 iPad launch (Veteran's Day)

Just spoke to my secret inside sources about this. Will provide a Yep or a Nope momentarily.

Nope. No iPad launch on Veteran’s day.

He didn't say anything about 10/22 however but if they knew they would've already made a news about it

I have salad dressing in the fridge older than you.

Gives you more time to sell your goods on ebay so you can pay for that optional dGPU, 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. :D

I can afford the maxed-out rMBP if I so please. To be honest, I won't really know what configuration I'm going with until I can actually see them online.
Do you think there will be a bit of a price drop of the standard configuration rMBP compared to the ones we have right now?

13-inch or 15? I think there will be a price drop on the 15, especially if it comes with no dGPU. I'd only expect a $100-200 price drop on the 13, if there is one at all. Also depends on if the cMBP gets dropped.

I'm leaning towards a particular configuration right now, but I want to see my options first.

Is there a single product they've dropped the price on in the last two years?

MBA got a $100 price drop on the new models. 13-inch rMBP got a price drop in February. iOS devices have always stayed the same price, but it's different with Macs.

Yeah almost definitely if they go with the Iris Pro for the base model. I think the ones with the dGPU will start at the same $2199 (the price of the base rMBP today). If they price the base model with the iGPU the same as a base cMBP, they can get rid of the cMBP altogether or sell it at a much lower price point.

So for the 13" rMBP you're suggesting it'll be $1199? That would be a $300 price drop. Does seem way to much for me. But I can't think of not having the cMBP anymore.

I'm still longing for October 15th... any later and I won't have it on holiday :(
Which is where I'll be spending a week writing music!

my guess:

macbook air 11" - $999
macbook air 13" - $1099
macbook pro retina 13" - $1399, $1599
macbook pro retina 15" w/o discrete - $1799
macbook pro retina 15" w/discrete - $2099

all classic gone

they could even produce a cheaper 13" with just the HD graphics, a cheaper binned haswell

So no dGPU in the 13" rMBP in your opinion?

Also born in 1990. I remember when all you would see in coffee shops for much of the 2000's were Macs. This is still true, but now you see iPhones and iPads all over the place as well.

I actually really miss that era, when all people had were a laptop and a basic phone.

Me myself, I miss the '70s and even the '80s, when music was made by musicians, who had musical talent, and used musical instruments to make their music. Ahh, those were the days. The drawback was I didn't have a MBP or an iPhone or iPad. And the net was something we shot basketballs at

While I'd rather have it a week earlier on the 15th, the benefit of the 22nd would be hearing what the "100% chance October 15th" guy has to say in his hilariously broken English.

I'm a 90's guy too but I wish I was born in the 70's so I could enjoy Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Yes and others at their prime. I know what you mean about musical talent though. It's so hard to find that these days.

I could see $1299 or $1399.
Yeah I could see $1399. You can actually get the 13" rMBP at that price today if you're a student.

My first computer was a little box called an SE. Not even the color version. It had a 40 MB HD and 1 MB of ram. I paid $65 for another 1/2 MB. I had a dot matrix printer with that connected paper that you had to separate on the perforated lines. And let me tell you, I thought this stuff was the greatest thing ever invented. At the time it was

Absolutely not. If you would have said that about 10-12 years ago, you would have been mostly right. But the overall music scene today is as strong as it's been since the early 90s. I have a suspicion you're not tuned into the right genres or the right places to be listening to.

Edited to stay on topic: The rMBP is a great machine with which to find new music, and Haswell will further increase that functionality!
