Absolutely not. If you would have said that about 10-12 years ago, you would have been mostly right. But the overall music scene today is as strong as it's been since the early 90s.

So not good then? :D
Music got worse in the 90's with all the bubblegum pop and a terrible thing known as 'hip-hop'

And R&B isn't even as good as it was in the 80's. Those days you would have real rhythm and blues.
I mostly listen to Rock and Prog rock where there aren't a lot of good albums these days, except Progrock which seems to be having a small resurgence with Porcupine Tree, and forms of Post rock.

But we're going offtopic here anyways. :)

Speaking about music though, I'm really excited to use Logic Pro when I get my rMBP. My current one won't even run it without massive slowdowns.

Or just is screaming what all others are saying.

I'm a 90's guy too but I wish I was born in the 70's so I could enjoy Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Yes and others at their prime. I know what you mean about musical talent though. It's so hard to find that these days.

Yeah I could see $1399. You can actually get the 13" rMBP at that price today if you're a student.

I was a child when the Beatles broke up, but I have older siblings so they were everywhere in my household. But most importantly I grew up with the Rolling Stones, Zeppelin and Floyd. Elton Queen and all the rest. Thought it would never end. But it did. But it will be back, I have faith in the kids of the future. One day they will realize, if you are not a musician but you can still create it by yourself at home with your computer, then THAT ain't it.

my guess:

macbook air 11" - $999
macbook air 13" - $1099
macbook pro retina 13" - $1399, $1599
macbook pro retina 15" w/o discrete - $1799
macbook pro retina 15" w/discrete - $2099

all classic gone

they could even produce a cheaper 13" with just the HD graphics, a cheaper binned haswell

Unlikely... Why should Apple drop the price? $1800 seems too far from reality..

I do agree, the classic will gone (the air is the new entry level)

I'd go along with this. But I think the classic still has another round left in it. There's still enough sticker shock in the retinas and the, "OMG where is the optical drive!?!?" crowd is still out there.

Try being a '50's guy!

Greetings fellow semi-geezer. Now those were indeed simpler times. (When ugly asses were fully covered by denim trousers and the only holes in your body was what god giveth you).

I'm going to come off as very hipsterish here (I'm really not), but you're characterizing a decade of musical history by the most mainstream of the mainstream. In any case, there is lots and lots of bad pop music at any given point. The music scene - people out in the wild making and playing real music - is something completely different.

On topic: the rMBP with Haswell will be a perfect machine with which to listen to good music.

Edited to stay on topic: The rMBP is a great machine with which to find new music, and Haswell will further increase that functionality!

That's kinda my point, Bro. There's stuff out there, always will be. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to bump into it. Like the song that is the intro on Shameless. But you have too look hard for it. When I was a kid it was thrown in your face, on a weekly basis. You couldn't miss it. Great music...That is still played on the radio every day...Released every week of the year. Very little of what is released today will be played to the general pub 40 years from now, if any of it

Yes. So very true. And I have fully taken advantage of iTunes. And I really don't know how I lived my whole life without YouTube. Now I just type in ROLLING STONES 1975 and I get a truckload of stuff I would have killed for back in the day. And if you would have told me then that someday I would have every song I have ever heard in my pocket, I would have personally taken you back to the loony bin

Edit: Sorry for being so of subject. Just killing time waiting for my 15" rMBP 16 Gig, 512 Gig with Haswell and IGZO

I was actually quite impressed by the speakers last time I played with one.

Yes. This This This. I have always very unsatisfied with the speakers on my various MBPs. But I was at the Apple Store, and I positioned the cMBP alongside the rMBP, and played identical music vids (Stones Gimmie Shelter). On the CMBP I could barely hear it as the Apple Store is always a madhouse, on the rMBP it was cranking. People actually asked me to turn it down. Now I understand that we lost a little bass, but man, that thing is LOUD

Wait a minute buddy--that's MY computer you're waiting for! ;)

Speaking of which, if there was any way of knowing that a February MBP refresh would definitely bring IGZO displays, how many of you freaks would hold out for it?

You make a very good point that a certain type of rock music was at its pinnacle in that era, and was both prolific and popular- that is, you had a social aspect of everyone listening to the same thing because of radio play. Everyone bought the Exile on Main Street record and knew it well.

It's a bit like apples and oranges with today's music scene because of everyone's personalized listening - your own mp3 playlists, your particular Pandora station. The whole system is set up to be more eclectic.

I would never bring down or attack that amazing era of rock music, but I'm tired of current music constantly trotted out to be the 'whipping boy' that constantly pales in comparison to it. I guess I mean that people tend to make idiotic comparisons between The Rolling Stones and stuff like Miley Cyrus, but no one's doing the reverse and comparing the Black Keys to some terrible disco that was being made at exactly the same time back in the '70s.

I can't wait for my Haswell MacBook pro to really delve back into music history.

I would still buy the October refresh. But I'm not really expecting IGZO until the Broadwell refresh.

These are some intense weeks following up. Really looking forward to the 15th but still having mixed feelings because of the amount of exams coming up:eek: (OT...)

And before any audiophile my head off, I understand completely that iTunes music quality doesn't always meet other digital or analog standards. :)

Absolutely I would. But it coming out with the next iteration just makes so much sense. I mean for months all I've been hearing is that Haswell is basically about power consumption. Then the Air comes out getting something like 12 hours. Hallelujah. But we all know that the retina sucks up too much power and at best maybe Haswell will add one hour. But wait, surprise...One more thing...Haswell + IGZO on the rMBP. And there's your 12 hours. Now, I know they don't go into production until early next year etc etc, but here's the Dell news. So who knows, maybe it's all a ruse. I'll tell you what...I predict that if our computer doesn't get released this month then when it does get released it will have IGZO. Maybe that's what this long wait is all about. A guy can dream, can't he?

Black Keys rock. Alabama Shakes as well. See, there's always gonna be something. Now where's my Haswell and why doesn't my iMessage work on my iPad with iOS 7?

Nearly $2k for me. 13" i5 8gb ram and 256gb on education discount. The maxed out 15" is complete overkill for my uses, hehe. And I can barely justify the $2k when my 13" base mid-2009 was right around $1200!

A 13-inch retina MacBook Pro with an education discount shouldn't cost 2000$ in North America.
