I don't know why so many people on here are rallying around the 15th. I think it's going to be the 22nd. Right now there are just conflicting reports on when the iPad event will be, but I think the 22nd is more logical/likely.

We are all just anxious ;)

As am I. I literally just started to beta test an application that touts one of its major features as "Retina screen compatibility". Oh boy, how I long for that. Oh well, at least I can run the app from day one without it looking horrible.

I too want it on the 15th. I'm just saying that I'm expecting the 22nd.

Mavericks just got "developer preview" status. My money's on the 15th

Aaaah, I can almost taste it. I seriously know how Tantalus feels now.

Beckett had it right.

Were you offline for since June?

Hopefully the GM gets released next week. That would be a good sign of the event happening on October 15th.

No sorry I meant to say the beta just dropped the developer preview status. They are no longer calling it a preview on the website

Oh I know.....you may be correct with the 22nd, I am just so anxious that I hopeful for the 15th and we see invites go out next Monday or Tuesday :D

I cracked.

Just bought a brand new rMPB 15.4" 2.7ghz i7 16gb ram 512 ssd early 2013 for $2,273.69 after tax with employee 25% discount. MSRP $2,799 - $700 (25% discount) = $2,099.

Apple employee said I get a 14 day return policy no restocking fee. Maverick OS X update when it's released for free. Also if a new model is announced I get an extra 14 days extended return policy. Saved approx. $900 after tax (compared to $3100+ after tax and no discount)

So hopefully I'm safe just incase there is an announcement on oct. 15th but if it's on the 22nd Im out of the game. I honestly don't think they will update the screen at this point just optimize battery life and introduce better gpu and haswell.

if they announce the new rMBP on the 22nd, when would be the earliest possible date that it would be available in store? I need a new laptop by the 29th for school and am debating whether to wait or pick up the current rMBP. Waiting for the new one seems like it would be cutting it extremely close...

Base configurations are always in stores within the next day or two.

Logistically I am curious , if you do return for a newer model, will the employee discount still apply?

Argh! I don't know what to do!

According to Geekbench, the cMBP i7 outscores the Haswell i7 MBA which is near par to the cMBP i5 which outscores the Haswell i5 MBA by quite a bit. I don't care about retina or battery life and I have my own SSD I could stick in a new cMBP.

Even just hoping the base Haswell rMBP has 256GB HDD and 8GB RAM, if they drop the cMBP that means it'll be probably $1499 for a base rMBP i5 that very possibly won't benchmark higher than a $1449 cMBP i7.

If a stock SSD, retina, and battery life don't matter to me, and the Haswell i5 isn't going to outperform the Ivy i7 (for less), I'm wondering if HD5200 is really worth it for me or if the HD4000 would perform up to my wishes on a 1280x800 machine.

Nicely done!

I got one of the $1599 plus tax mid-2012 2.3GHz 256GB 8GB memory refurbs, ordered last week and arrived Monday. I was also fortunate enough that the 8GB RAM turned out to be 16GB, so I feel pretty good about it for the next few years with what was for all practical purposes a savings of $800 (I realize not technically because of the February 2012 refresh with the 2.4GHz CPU bump). Still, with my budget considerations, I knew I wouldn't be paying $2200 or so for the new model with Haswell, so I feel pretty good about what I bought.

Being a 25-year PC user and old enough to be the father of some of you young folk, I like my transition thus far into the Mac world. Older dogs can learn new tricks. Hope the Haswell models are all you hope they will be.

What's with all these posts about getting mbps.. there's another thread for that. Keep this thread PURE! :D

What happened to only needing a 128 GB SSD?;)

He found a good deal and he took it, and it came with 512GB.
Yes, exactly. Hourfilms just paid $2,273.69 for the same configuration and I think he got a good deal. I paid $2000.00 and I don't mind that it has excess SSD capacity. I tentatively plan to sell it in about a year when the Broadwell machines become available and I may get in Europe close to what I paid for it in the States. Anyway, there hasn't been a 128GB option available for the 15" MBP for a while.

I stand by my point, though. That 128GB is not enough.
We'll see whether or not I have any difficulty selling my 2010 15" MBP with a 128GB SSD.

Yes, this thread is for anxious, bored, desperate, discouraged, disappointed, excited, hoping, needing, pleading, sad, mad, wanting, waiting, wishing, cash-in-hand people only. Keep your happiness in the other thread. I'll be joining you some year when I get a new Haswell rMBP! :D

Announce by the 15th at the very least.... so we know what were getting and have a little more to hold onto before it releases hopefully within a week after that.

It's normal for people to start giving up at this point. Especially knowing they can return it if there is no restocking fee, I've thought about that but I don't want to go through the hassle. It's so close I can almost taste it.

At least we don't see people talking about a release next Tuesday.

What a waste of time to be attached to a Apple you know you will return... who knows you might get too attached to it! Too dangerous of a risk and poor consumership. Just wait for the product you want and buy that one.
