I want to upgrade my aluminum 13" MacBook to the upcoming 15" rMBP is this machine really worth the 3,000 dollars?

Only you can answer that. Everyones concept of worth is different.

I just sold my old white macbook and old i pad... means i have no more it device at home.. It´s time to get some new stuff :)

Makes me cry how everyone gets their 16/512 macbooks at $2000 while base model in my country is almost $3000.

Can't wait. I need a laptop for work. I've been borrowing it from my girl. I really hope it comes out this month. I forgot, is the SSD upgradable on the rMBP? I hope it is cause the SSD and memory (I know memory can't be upgraded) price by Apple is insane.

You can upgrade the SSD on a rMBP, but since its Apples Blade SSD its not very easy to find, and when you do find it somewhere the prices are extortionate! I'm just going to get my rMBP with at least the 768GB SSD in the first instance so I dont have to worry about it later!

I know this will not happen but, in my opinion, Apple should segment her products in that way:

CONSUMER LINE: MACBOOK AIR
Common specs: low power CPUs, 4gb RAM (upgradeable to 8), 128gb SSD (upgradeable to 512).
- 11" MBA: 999$
- 13" MBA: 1099$
- 13" retina MBA: 1299$

PRO LINE: MACBOOK PRO
Common specs: high performance CPUs with dGPU optional, 8gb RAM (upgradeable to 16), 256gb SSD (upgradeable to 1Tb).
- 13" MBP: 1699$
- 15" MBP: 1999$

Why I say this? Well first because I really like MBA out of its display. Second because there are people that do not needs fast CPUs or massed RAM but neverthless want the retina display. Third because this, in my opinion, looks as a very well segmented market.
Sadly, as we know, it will not happen.

It is amazing how much computers cost in some countries  Where are you from? Sometimes it's actually worth it to fly to the US and buy the Mac here because it's cheaper than just buying it in your country of origin. Tech vacation ;)

At this moment in the Netherlands, the high end rMBP 2.7GHz, 16GB, 512SSD, costs 2830 euro = $3854. At least that's what Google says.

Now I'm starting to see how great a deal it was for some guys buying this model for $2000. Wow..

edit: I find it insane that the same product costs $2799 in the US store. That's more than a thousand dollars difference, for the same product, in a different country... fml

Remember that the US store show tax exclusive prices.

Not the "How much Macbook cost in different countries" comments .....

I think we had that at least 5 times in this thread. If there is nothing Haswell/MBP related just don't post!

Have you been saying that for everytime we went off topic? It's not a problem if people get offtopic in a mega thread like this in my opinion. If you're only here to get news on the release, I'd suggest just stick to the macrumors frontpage.

I did ;) (and not just me)
You guys could start a "Apple devices are more expensive in my country than yours!" Megathread

Can we please leave the cost-between-countries issues to another thread. Its not what most people viewing this tread want to read about!

Guys this is the Haswell Macbook Pro thread, could you discuss the "Apple products in my country are more expensive than in yours!" somewhere else

$2799 plus sales tax (almost 10% in states like NY and CA vs 21% for NL) plus 2+ year warranty (US models only come with 90 days phone / 1 year defects). It's not such a huge price gap once all of that is added in.

The 2 year warranty has been discussed on this forum over and over, and it's not that simple to use the 2nd year of warranty on every country.

In Poland for example (EU member...), you need to prove that the defect you are complaining about was already present 6 months into you purchased the device, something like this...

As you can imagine the stores sometimes try to screw you over this...

Also base model 15 inch rMBP in Portugal costs:
2,249€ (with tax already), that is $3,000...

US price for same laptop
rMBP $2,199 (without tax)
AppleCare $349 (without tax)
Total 2548, even with 10% tax that is still LOWER than in Europe and with 3 year warranty....

I think the difference covers the AppleCare ;)

If you're not interested in the topic, it's easy to skip over these sorts of posts. Anyway, they are really much more on topic than half the stuff here because they deal with the price of rMBPs, not prices in general. I just find it amusing that you have the desire to keep this crazy, sprawling thread "pure" at this point.

+1!
