The 2 year warranty has been discussed on this forum over and over, and it's not that simple to use the 2nd year of warranty on every country.

In Poland for example (EU member...), you need to prove that the defect you are complaining about was already present 6 months into you purchased the device, something like this...

As you can imagine the stores sometimes try to screw you over this...

----------

Also base model 15 inch rMBP in Portugal costs:
2,249€ (with tax already), that is $3,000...

US price for same laptop
rMBP $2,199 (without tax)
AppleCare $349 (without tax)
Total 2548, even with 10% tax that is still LOWER than in Europe and with 3 year warranty....

I think the difference covers the AppleCare ;)

But in European Union countries, computers automatically come with a three year warranty, last I checked.

stupid graphics question

hi - i realise this is probably a stupid question that's been asked a lot of times, but i'd rather not search through 300+ pages if possible!

I'm waiting for the new rMBP. I currently have a late-2008 Macbook Pro unibody. The thing I'd like to know is, if the new rMBPs do not include discrete GPUs and go instead with the integrated Iris graphics, then will the graphics performance be significantly better than the NVIDIA 9600M gt in my current machine? Although gaming is in no sense a deal breaker for me, I do like to play the odd game on my bootcamp partitition (e.g. Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, and the odd FPS). Do you think that I'd notice a performance bump on Iris? Also, many of the new games that are coming out require a 'Direct X 11 compliant' GPU: is Iris Direct X 11 compliant?

Sorry if this is a well-worn topic. Just interested i getting your thoughts.

There will be a big difference with that the 9600M. Iris and Iris Pro are much faster than mobile graphics cards from 5 years ago.

Yeah Iris Pro is for sure better then what you have now.
We are not sure yet if the new rMBP will have only Iris Pro or a dGPU also.
And if it only gets Iris Pro we are not sure if it will be a standard configuration of it or a clocked one. So its really hard to say atm what is what. But no matter what it will be an upgrade for you.
The current Iris Pro tests put it somewhere between 640M and 650M in performance.

So Mavericks is on GM now, that's awesome. We can only hope for the rMBP to be released on the 15th instead of 22nd.

Hi guys, see you all later this month.

-rMBP

I know this will not happen but, in my opinion, Apple should segment her products in that way:

CONSUMER LINE: MACBOOK AIR
Common specs: low power CPUs, 4gb RAM (upgradeable to 8), 128gb SSD (upgradeable to 512).
- 11" MBA: 999$
- 13" MBA: 1099$
- 13" retina MBA: 1299$

PRO LINE: MACBOOK PRO
Common specs: high performance CPUs with dGPU optional, 8gb RAM (upgradeable to 16), 256gb SSD (upgradeable to 1Tb).
- 13" MBP: 1699$
- 15" MBP: 1999$

Why I say this? Well first because I really like MBA out of its display. Second because there are people that do not needs fast CPUs or massed RAM but neverthless want the retina display. Third because this, in my opinion, looks as a very well segmented market.
Sadly, as we know, it will not happen.

I don't disagree, but I think we are a few years away from that happening. Firstly, dGPUs are going away. The 13-inch will never get one again, and it's only a matter of time before Apple drops it completely in the 15-inch.

I'm one of those people who just want the Retina display but don't need a Pro machine, but I love the rMBP for all the other things it brings me besides the screen.

Also, I think we should wait until the Air actually gets Retina in the first place. It might be awhile.

The Iris Pro will wreck the 9600M GT in any benchmark, and it's compliant with Direct X 11. Link to benchmarks (scroll down). It's just not quite as good as the 650M. Apple will probably offer the 750M though, if you want more graphics performance.

I've been waiting for a replacement for well over a week now. I don't know if apple has any bto cmbp left. They just keep contacting me saying, "We apologize, your replacement order has been delayed. Thank you for your patience, etc..."

Could be a good sign?

It is amazing how much computers cost in some countries  Where are you from? Sometimes it's actually worth it to fly to the US and buy the Mac here because it's cheaper than just buying it in your country of origin. Tech vacation ;)

Czech, 21% tax or so. Tickets to US cost almost as high as half of the mac and I would get only 1 year warranty, applecare doesn't work here.

In the 13" there'll probably be Iris 5100 graphics, which is on two i5 models. The 15" is already all i7, and that's where Iris Pro 5200 is expected.

I wonder if the i7 option on the 13" will have Iris Pro. I really hope so. The 13" is the perfect size for commuting, but I'd like the additional power of Iris Pro for a little occasional Flight Simming- and driving an external display at home (or 2).

We will get Iris 5100 on the 13-inch, whether it's i5 or i7. You'll have to go for the 15-inch if you want Iris Pro.

Got tired of waiting and decided a souped-up 13.3-inch MBA will suit my needs just fine.

Really all I wanted in the MBP was Haswell and 802.11ac, and I can get that with my new (refurb) MBA.

Thanks for letting me hang out in this Waiting for MBP thread while I made up my mind. See y'all next time.

In Portugal VAT is 23%... If you think 13% is high, you are crazy... Poland is also 23%.

Denmark: 25% VAT.

+ I currently pay the top rate tax at 70% of all my income.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Edit:

And I would actually save $220 by flying to the US, buy the Mac and return to Denmark.

But: a) I don't want to spend 8 hours in plane (and 8 hours back home) and b) Feel comfy having a Danish keyboard (well.. my first PowerBook actually had a US keyboard). I don't ever look on the keys, but the US layout has less keys than the Danish layout, so it get's a little weird typing on it when I miss some keys :) + the resale value here in DK is higher with.. a Danish keyboard :D

Question.

Once the GM release (the final beta release) of a new OSX is released, on average how long does it takes to have the new OSX announced?

Given that yesterday it was released the Maverick GM, I want to understand if it is more likely to have the keynote on october 15th or october 22th.

Maybe this is a good sign.

MacMall now sells the current (2013) models - until now, they sold the 2012 models at $700 off.

That's pretty much what everyone wants to know
