Question.

Once the GM release (the final beta release) of a new OSX is released, on average how long does it takes to have the new OSX announced?

Given that yesterday it was released the Maverick GM, I want to understand if it is more likely to have the keynote on october 15th or october 22th.

OSX 10.7 Golden Master was announced at 1st of July 2011, official release was 20th July 2011. Which makes a wait of 19 days.

OSX 10.8 Golden Master as announced at 9th/10th of July 2012, official release was 25th of July 2012. Which makes a wait of two weeks.

Based on the two latest OSX releases I'd say two weeks.

Mountain Lion:
GM: July 9
Release: July 25 (16 days after)

Lion:
GM: July 1
Release: July 20 (19 days after)

Snow Leopard:
GM: August 11
Release: August 28 (17 days after)

So if the tendency is the same this year, we'll see a release around October 20-23

There are two scenarios:
1) Apple holds a keynote on October 15, saying that it'll be released "next week" (like they did with iOS 7).

2) They hold a keynote on October 22 with "Mavericks releasing TODAY".

Or maybe they just release it tomorrow.. No one knows :D

Thank you for replies.

Well at least we are sure: either Oct 15th or Oct 22th we will have the keynote
. If we are lucky, next tuesday invitations will be sent.

I hope we all agree on that

Oh and this thread will arrive to 10.000 post / 400 pages today!!!

Leopard had a 14 day gap, and that was when Apple still had to create CDs with the software. This line was from 9to5Mac: "Mavericks was supposed to reach GM status a few weeks ago, but critical bugs have kept pushing back the release, according to claims from sources." If these 'sources' are right, Apple could be behind schedule, but aiming for a launch on the 15-16th of October.

Ugh, this hurts. :)

I've already priced mine out with EDU discount. 16GB memory, 2.7proc, 768flash with apple care for $3,397.88, tax included.

I've done some of that, but what if there are price drops? Or a 1TB option in the place of the 768GB? :D

Yeah I know. But the Classic was here before the Nano. My point was: I never had the feeling I needed less than 5GB. That's why I never bought a nano. ;)

That's what happens with quick retorts.. you end up having to explain yourself. ;)

I think it will be more in line to come out the week after the event. As for macbook pros I want mine now!! I am going to be tradeing my current one in through a apple reseller and they will give me $700 towards a new one.

I think it's very possible for Mavericks to come out on the 16th. That's a 13-day gap. We can only hope!

Oh I have final question just to wash out any possible doubt (like "You have no prove"... "prove it"... "there will be no keynote on 2013" etc..).

Does it ever happen (recently) that OSX got silently updated without a keynote to present it?

What I want to stress is the following:

We have no prove that rMBP will come out on 2013. But it worths waith the keynote, that will happen for sure either on the 15th or on the 22th.
If rMBP are released in the keynote, GOOD. If not, almost for sure we have to wait until 2014

(well, not me since for mid-november I need the Mac in any case).

There is obviously nothing certain, but there is no way that we won't see a Haswell rMBP/Mavericks this month.

We've gone it over it a couple of times(well, a lot actually :p) in this thread and there is basically no reason for Apple to not release a new rMBP this year.

1TB will be awesome - but I'm trying to keep my expectations low. Hey, I've waited 8 months.

There's 1: It's not ready.

I wonder what the refurb store is gonna look like after the Haswell release.
