Looks like I'll join the waiting line.

Had an accident last weekend with my late 2011 cMBP and a bottle of Blue Moon while checking my fantasy football. Lucky for me I bought it from Best Buy and got the Geek Squad Black Tie Protection with accidental damage. I removed the SSD (crucial m4) and my 8GB of RAM but who knows if they are still salvageable, then brought it to Best Buy the following Monday afternoon. Things went pretty smooth over there and they took it in no questions asked and told me to expect to wait 2-3 weeks to hear back.

To my surprise I got a call back from them yesterday morning saying I was approved for a "Junk Out" was pretty happy the way things were moving. Only minor complaint was at first they was trying to give me a cheaper cMBP 15" I complained the reason I bought the previous one was due to having 1GB of memory on the dGPU and the one they were offering was only 512MB. The Geek Squad guy was a gamer so he understood and ran some check on their computers for comparable models. None turned up on their system so Best Buy just gave me store credit for the original price I paid for late 2011 cMBP of $2100.

I was satisfied with that solution and was ready to pick up a new rMBP 15" already but decided to do some more research and found out here about the possible rumored refresh this month. Sucks being stuck without an MBP but they way I see it is if Best Buy had taken the full amount of time they originally said it would be the same thing as me waiting for the refresh announcement right now. One important thing I want to point out is I was expecting a fight with Best Buy and them trying to do everything possible to not honor their accidental coverage from the very begining but it was the complete opposite. YMMV depending on each store/employee but I was quite impressed with the service I was given from my local Best Buy and will continue to shop there.

Thanks for listening just thought I'd share.

I wonder what will come first; Haswell rMBP or my student loan. Hopefully my student loan, I want to buy my new baby ASAP.

Thank you for replies.

Well at least we are sure: either Oct 15th or Oct 22th we will have the keynote
. If we are lucky, next tuesday invitations will be sent.

I hope we all agree on that

Oh and this thread will arrive to 10.000 post / 400 pages today!!!

What if it's the 29th? It seems that everyone has overlooked that date.

I think it's because it is a date that just doesn't make sense. Mavericks just got GM. We know Apple will want to release Mavericks and the Haswell rMBP together. And iPad event definitely wouldn't be that late.

the 22nd makes the most sense out of all the days based on what apple did last year - ipad event was the 23rd and a tuesday.. this year would be the 22nd and a tuesday. the iphone event we just had was around the same time as the year before. im not expecting any invites going out till the 15th.

Ahh I see, makes sense. I'm hoping it's sooner rather than later.

Agreed. My vote is for the Apple event being on the 22nd, or at least that week. It's been too quiet, IMO, for the 15th. Of course I hope I'm wrong and it's early. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed... again.

At this moment in the Netherlands, the high end rMBP 2.7GHz, 16GB, 512SSD, costs 2830 euro = $3854. At least that's what Google says.

Now I'm starting to see how great a deal it was for some guys buying this model for $2000. Wow..

edit: I find it insane that the same product costs $2799 in the US store. That's more than a thousand dollars difference, for the same product, in a different country... fml
The main reasons for the difference are the rapacious taxes in Europe and the much heavier regulatory burden in Europe. A smaller factor is that Apple need to charge a little bit extra to protect themselves against fluctuations in the currency exchange rate.

Remember that the US store show tax exclusive prices.
Five US states have no sales tax: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon.

1TB will be awesome - but I'm trying to keep my expectations low.
Apple are now offering a 1TB SSD option for the iMac, so I expect it will be an option for the Haswell MBP as well -- at least for the 15" MBP.

Is anyone here expecting a 16GB RAM option in the 13-inch?
I think there is a good chance that Apple might offer a 16GB DRAM option for the 13" Haswell MBP. That's the only advance I expect to see in memory capacity for the Haswell MBPs -- unless a 17" model might be introduced. I'm confident that the base DRAM for both the 13" and 15" models will remain 8GB and I'm confident that neither the 13" nor 15" Haswell models will get a 32GB option. If I were Apple, I would introduce a 17" Haswell MBP in February with 16GB base and 32GB optional, plus two PCIe SSD slots and three Thunderbolt 2, four USB 3.0 (or 3.1) ports, a powerful discrete GPU, and a 4K Retina display optimized for 1920x1200.

We know Apple will want to release Mavericks and the Haswell rMBP together.
I don't know that Apple would want to release Mavericks and the Haswell rMBP together. I don't believe that Apple care one way or another. We've seen cases in the past where Apple have released new Macs a few weeks before an OS X release and we've seen cases where Apple have released new Macs a few weeks after an OS X release. I cannot remember a simultaneous release.

I really doubt it but who knows? Apple needs to keep the two MBP models as far apart from one another as possible. Especially, if there's no dGPU in the 15".

That's true. Maybe Apple will hold off on introducing 16GB RAM in the 13-inch until we get quad-core next year. Although I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it's an option in Haswell.

Hey people I have just read this news

http://appleinsider.com/articles/13...expects-big-things-from-apples-fifth-gen-ipad

What does it mean? Maybe Won't we see any Mac?!?!? How is that possible? I mean everyone want an iPad...No one buy anymore Macbook Pro?

It's just saying that PC sales are slow, and that for that reason Apple isn't stockpiling huge numbers of machines (what would be the point, especially considering how many are BTO purchases?)

The Haswell machines already exist, we know they're coming at some point. Releasing them with the Mac Pro and Mavericks is the obvious choice, especially since mid-late October is the launch time for basically every other competing laptop.

Very pleased with my recent purchase already 2013/rMBP/2.7Ghz i7/16GB/512SSD and as a traveling photographer / cinematographer I am going to push this computer to it's limits. So far the screen resolution and overall weight is amazing. The first program I downloaded was Geekbench 3 and ran a 32bit test scoring 3098 on a single core and 11980 on the multicore. A BIG leap from my Mid-2011 27" iMac/2.7Ghz i5/24GB/1TB which single core scored was 2650 multi core score highest ever 6990.

I imagine the 2013 Haswell comparative model for my laptop will break 12,000 and hover just below 13,000. Would it be worth $3,100+ vs the $2,200 I paid. Only time will tell, the likelihood of a screen upgrade is looking very slim if not outright doubtful as the IGZO may not be ready until Early 2014 indicated by many sources.

In your case, the only reason to upgrade to Haswell would be for the battery life. Performance isn't going to be a big jump.

Exactly, a minor performance boost + battery life doesn't quite justify the $900 difference to me. The update is more of a lateral move at best in the right direction might I add! I am extremely excited for next year, we may see the introduction of 3K and 4K mobile screens and as a cinematographer that is beautiful!

I need one. Desperately.

Did you hear about the special Steve Jobs edition? Black unibody aluminum.

I like the idea of a black model. But im still not sure it will look as good as the current silver one does. All depends on if we are talking space grey or really black. And also ofc what keyboard color it would have.

i think it would REALLY depend on how big this jump is in battery life. Are we talking like going from 7 hrs to 12 hrs? That's significant. with mavericks/haswell/potential lower density IGZO displays on the books, we're talking something heavy

not to mention 802.11ac wireless god i want that.

I could have bought the current rMBP months ago, but I decided not to because for me the Haswell rMBP is that big of a jump. Sounds like you were able to get a deal you were happy with, though. For me, no amount of savings could convince me to buy the Ivy Bridge rMBP.

I have a feeling all are only going to have a small jump unfurtnatly :/

I think it'll be a minor update but the battery life..

So 400 pages and 10000 posts later and still no rMBP.
"This is madness!"
"THIS IS APPLE!"

And yes.... yes i did update the thread multiple times just to get the 10000 post.
That is how low ive slumped during the time ive followed this thread.
