I'm now in the market for a new laptop, and I have a couple of questions.

I recently bought my first Mac product... an iPad. I love it, but like many people, I occasionally encounter the "phantom signaling" issue: https://discussions.apple.com/message/12108341#12108341

Do you guys suspect the new Haswells might have this issue, either with their keyboards or their touch screens? I plan to use my laptop for my job, so phantom signaling would be especially disruptive if I'm with a client.

Also, is there any chance that Apple will offer 4K screens as an upgrade for the 13 inch Haswells? That's the size I want most.

i think it would REALLY depend on how big this jump is in battery life. Are we talking like going from 7 hrs to 12 hrs? That's significant. with mavericks/haswell/potential lower density IGZO displays on the books, we're talking something heavy

not to mention 802.11ac wireless god i want that.

I wish!!!

I don't see any chance for the Haswell MBPs to have IGZO displays. Maybe Broadwell.

I just ran Geekbench 3 in 32-bit mode on my two 15" MBPs:
Early 2010 2.66GHz: single-core: 2166, multi-core 4303
Early 2013 2.7GHz: single-core: 3020, multi-core 11782

So 400 pages and 10000 posts later and still no rMBP.
"This is madness!"
"THIS IS APPLE!"

And yes.... yes i did update the thread multiple times just to get the 10000 post.
That is how low ive slumped during the time ive followed this thread.

No chance. A few years after Haswell, we may see a 4K 13" MBP. The only plausible Haswell MBP that might get a 4K display would be a hypothetical 17" model.

Where is Vegeta? :D

That really depends upon how you define small/minor. There are many of us on here who have been waiting to buy our first rMBP, and to us we are better served by waiting for the Haswell model.

This. I could suffice with ivy bridge, but the battery improvement with haswell will be amazing compared to my four year old MBP with a service battery warning. I'm also coming from c2d and nvidia 9400. Should be a big improvement!

Its gotta be over 13 hours... It can't possibly lose or be comparable to a Dell XPS 15. If it does, looks like I am going to have to go back to say hello to windows.

Thank you for replies.

Well at least we are sure: either Oct 15th or Oct 22th we will have the keynote
. If we are lucky, next tuesday invitations will be sent.

I hope we all agree on that

Oh and this thread will arrive to 10.000 post / 400 pages today!!!

I think if anything invites will go out next week, event on the 15th with new Macs ready to ship that day and a Mavericks release on the 18th. Apple's initial shipping dates are usually around 1-3 business days so it makes sense to me.

I hope for a 13"rMBP with 16GB RAM, quad-core CPU and a 1TB SSD :D

I expect all of that will be available with the Broadwell 13" MBP. I think there is a chance one may be able to get 16GB of DRAM or a 1TB SSD with Haswell, but a quad-core Haswell CPU in a 13" MBP looks very unlikely.

Yes yes I know. We discussed it plenty of times (because we had plenty of course). I am not saying we are getting a quad as an option. I am just saying the reasons might not be the TDP.

Why? Because I believe the 13" could easily handle the 45W CPU. The current 15" handles a CPU with 45W and in addition a GPU with 45 Watts (the 650M)

So the MBP 15" handles 90W in total. Why wouldn't the 13" be able to handle the 45 Watts from the CPU alone?

The consensus around here is rallied behind the idea that the only significant changes between Early 2013 and Haswell rMBP's is battery life and very minor performance boost. Kind of a let down, I will bite my tongue if you see 12 hours of battery life. I think that is stellar and I am hoping the best for you guys patiently awaiting this release. As it stands the only reason I will upgrade from my current model is for a significant boost say 10-12 hour battery, Broadwell i7 3.0ghz+, 4k IGZO Display, 2GB GPU, 1 TB SSD, 32 GB RAM, Thunderbolt 2.0. If I could get those features in a laptop by 2015 I will glady cry myself to sleep at night.

I hope Apple drops the cMBP and lowers the price of the rMBP. Then I could maybe get the more expensive rMBP.

I just bought the base model 13" MBP yesterday for $1086.92 total.

The fact that they're offering these deeper discounts guarantees an update on the way if you ask me.

If they do happen to announce a new MBP on 10/15 than I'll return mine and purchase the next version when it's available. If they don't mention new MBP's than I'm keeping this one.

Hope you all get what you want soon! =)

I think most of those features will be available with Broadwell:
10-12 hour battery: Yes
3.0GHz: Maybe
4K IGZO Display: Maybe IGZO, but probably not 4K, unless Apple release a 17" model
2GB graphics RAM: Probably not, unless Apple release a 17" model
1TB SSD: Yes
32GB DRAM: Probably
Thunderbolt 2: Yes

LOL! I want to see the XPS-15 actually get what Dell claims. 15 hours in stand-by maybe.

Unlike the MBA, I doubt retina models will be as frugal. 9-10 might be a reasonable expectation though. All depends on the iGPU/dGPU innards.

Oh, I don't think it's exactly equivalent. +1 seems to be a stronger form of affirmation, wouldn't you say?

Also, it's getting us to 10,000 posts faster!

A "+1" is a stronger form of confirmation, but it needs to be combined with an up vote for the most potential effectiveness. Yeah, we're actually at that goal, which I didn't notice before. Imagine how many we would have (in theory, which has no bearing on if it's likely to happen or not) if Apple released it in February. We would be in a sorry state by then.

My bet for battery perfomance is 7-8 hours, I think is more affordable

I would buy a 17" model in a heartbeat! In fact I am already looking to purchase a new iMac when they update the 27" with a 4K display probably 16 months from now. I wish they made the 17" model again never had my hands on one guessing the price tag would be base model for $3499. I'll skip Has well and await Broadwell and IGZO/4K displays/battery/dGPU.

Er, what?

1st... Take your ipad back.
2nd... Phantom signalling, Haswell, keyboard, 13" 4k screen... touch screen!?!?

Haha... you're not fooling anybody. You're really 12 years old, aren't you?

Thanks for the advice! (It was given a few pages back).

Glad to hear that the Iris Pro graphics will give me a performance bump on what I already have. I'm wary of integrated graphics. I don'r know much about any of it, but I've always assumed they are not as good as a separate GPU. I must admit, if they have a separate gpu option when they finally come out, I'd probably go for that.
