Thanks for the advice! (It was given a few pages back).

Glad to hear that the Iris Pro graphics will give me a performance bump on what I already have. I'm wary of integrated graphics. I don'r know much about any of it, but I've always assumed they are not as good as a separate GPU. I must admit, if they have a separate gpu option when they finally come out, I'd probably go for that.

This is quickly changing. Intel is really stepping up their integrated graphics game.

I'm now in the market for a new laptop, and I have a couple of questions.

I recently bought my first Mac product... an iPad. I love it, but like many people, I occasionally encounter the "phantom signaling" issue: https://discussions.apple.com/message/12108341#12108341

Do you guys suspect the new Haswells might have this issue, either with their keyboards or their touch screens? I plan to use my laptop for my job, so phantom signaling would be especially disruptive if I'm with a client.

Also, is there any chance that Apple will offer 4K screens as an upgrade for the 13 inch Haswells? That's the size I want most.

I have never heard of that problem, nor have I encountered it with my iPad (4th generation Wifi-Only 32GB). Remember that it may seem like a big issue online, but in reality, the only people who post on the internet about the problem are the people who have the problem themselves, not the majority of users whose iPad functions normally and have no incentive whatsoever to talk about thus issue.

The waiting game has been going on for too long and most of us will probably have beards like Dumbledore already, but you're joining at a good moment and they'll be released very soon now! .... very soon! .... Maybe in two weeks!... this month.... like.. we said countless times before... but this time we're sure!..... we hope

Looks like I'll join the waiting line.

Had an accident last weekend with my late 2011 cMBP and a bottle of Blue Moon while checking my fantasy football. Lucky for me I bought it from Best Buy and got the Geek Squad Black Tie Protection with accidental damage. I removed the SSD (crucial m4) and my 8GB of RAM but who knows if they are still salvageable, then brought it to Best Buy the following Monday afternoon. Things went pretty smooth over there and they took it in no questions asked and told me to expect to wait 2-3 weeks to hear back.

To my surprise I got a call back from them yesterday morning saying I was approved for a "Junk Out" was pretty happy the way things were moving. Only minor complaint was at first they was trying to give me a cheaper cMBP 15" I complained the reason I bought the previous one was due to having 1GB of memory on the dGPU and the one they were offering was only 512MB. The Geek Squad guy was a gamer so he understood and ran some check on their computers for comparable models. None turned up on their system so Best Buy just gave me store credit for the original price I paid for late 2011 cMBP of $2100.

I was satisfied with that solution and was ready to pick up a new rMBP 15" already but decided to do some more research and found out here about the possible rumored refresh this month. Sucks being stuck without an MBP but they way I see it is if Best Buy had taken the full amount of time they originally said it would be the same thing as me waiting for the refresh announcement right now. One important thing I want to point out is I was expecting a fight with Best Buy and them trying to do everything possible to not honor their accidental coverage from the very begining but it was the complete opposite. YMMV depending on each store/employee but I was quite impressed with the service I was given from my local Best Buy and will continue to shop there.

Thanks for listening just thought I'd share.

That was a very good recap of your experience. I had a bad experience(actually a few) over 10 years ago and generally avoid BB - especially for any type of hardware I planned on keeping.

Good on BB for improving their service. Doubt I'll buy more things from them.

Maybe definitely ...:D

This thread is almost 7 months strong.. love it.

My original prediction was the 22nd. But I'll take the 15th, or 8th any day. :D

Didn't you say you wouldn't be buying right away?

Right, but I'm just excited to see the event and notebook, and all the speculation put to rest. And it'll give me some time to read up on all the quirks people are experiencing. :D

Gotcha. I just want Apple to take my money right now.

Good for you guys! It's nice having all these new members contributing their opinions to the broad topic of the new rmbps.

I wonder what the refurb store is gonna look like after the Haswell release.

You know, looking at current refurb prices, I'm not optimistic that we'll see any significant price drops on 2012/2013 refurbs. Take this 2011 15" cMBP for instance:

http://store.apple.com/ca/product/FC723LL/A/refurbished-macbook-pro-22ghz-quad-core-intel-i7

4GB RAM, 750GB HDD, the old 2.2GHz Sandy Bridge CPU... $1529. When you consider that $70 more gets you the base model rMBP... The phrase "does not compute" comes to mind.

It's really a damned shame you can't upgrade the RAM on those retina MBPs, 'cause I'd be all over one of those June 2012 numbers for $1600, upgrading when SSD/RAM prices fell to a comfortable level. Oh well...

so, what do you guys think about the chance of a 32GB ram option for the 15" (the cpu's support 32GB of DDR3L-1600)

I think the consensus is that there's not even a chance of seeing 32GB RAM this year. Next year, yes.

Many of us are even wondering if the 13-inch will get a 16GB option.

It's annoying that next year's crop stands a chance of being so much awesomer than this year's. But it is what it is...

Eh, it is what it is. I'll gladly get both. But I am really excited about getting the Haswell rMBP, and that's enough for me right now.
