OK, prices of Macs in Australia aren't as high as I thought they would be. That's where I would have to buy the Broadwell MBP next year.

Good to know! Or I suppose we could each go up to the individual Apple website of each country.

Wow. Almost $4000 in all of those countries? I hope it's, for the most part, because their currency is valued higher.

It's so awesome that there are people from all over the world contributing to this MEGA-thread. It seems that majority of posters here are outside the States.

With that said, thought I'd post something to get a fun discussion going as we are nearing the speculated Haswell rMBP release.

Answer the following questions:

  1. Which Country & State are you from?
  2. How much does the high-end (base) rMBP cost in your Country's Apple Store (USD)?
  3. Were the 2012 rMBPs available on day one in your country?

  1. Toronto, Ontario, Canada
  2. 2799$ Canadian Dollars (which have a similar value to American dollars)
  3. Yes

Well actually, the price of the rmbp in Canada in American dollars is 2717.74$. The Canadian dollar is trading at 1$ CA = 0.97$ US

I'm from Singapore. The cost of a high end base of a rMBP is USD$2840.

The new Mac Pro will come with HDMI 1.4, and why would Apple put HDMI 2.0 into the rmbp when their new top-of-the-line computer doesn't even have it?

have you considered: the mac pro info page was created BEFORE hdmi 2.0 was officially announced and apple just hasn't updated the page yet - even if apple had planned to put hdmi 2.0 into the mac pro, they wouldn't have been allowed to say so initially

now that hdmi 2.0 has been officially released there is no reason for apple not to include it, it was officially released on the 4th of september, so apple has had heaps of time to obtain/integrate the hardware changes into the new rbmp / mac pro

and its another one of those 4k 60fps ready interfaces they can go on about in the presentations along with (display port 1.2 in) tb2

Have you considered that Apple cares alot more about their Thunderbolt technology?

Wow. Almost $4000 in all of those countries? I hope it's, for the most part, because their currency is valued higher.

I think there are 3 main reasons for higher prices:

1) Currency
2) Higher VAT (e.g. here in Denmark it's 25%)
3) Apple knows that customers in these countries are willing to pay more, and will of course therefore charge more :)

The HDMI 1.3 specification present in the current rmbps was announced on June 22, 2006. The HDMI 1.4 specification that Apple will include the new Mac Pro and most likely the new rmbps was announced on May 28, 2009. Apple hasn't been an early adopter of HDMI technology (perhaps due to thunderbolt), and I seriously doubt Apple will include HDMI 2.0 in the Haswell rmbp. Also, so far, only Panasonic has announced a product including HDMI 2.0, and from CNET:
Don't expect to see HDMI 2.0 products this Christmas. At least not in any serious way. The spec comes first, then the chip makers design and build the chips, then TV, Blu-ray, and receiver manufacturers build these chips into TVs, Blu-ray players, and receivers. It's safe to assume that at least one of these stages is already well in progress, but that should result in 2014 models (think CES announcements). Panasonic, on the other hand, is already promising HDMI 2.0 compliance for one of its TVs.
It might make an appearance in the Broadwell rmbps.

I'm not sure I'm in the market for a new laptop anyways, I just like reading up on these things.

I guess another thread isn't needed, but MR can afford an additional one on their server, so why not?

Instead of adding to a "I'm dying waiting for Haswell," and getting flamed left and right, I figured a thread with a different tone and an article for reference might be interesting.

It'd be nice to have a retina display, but I love my 2011 13" Air plentyyyy

Haha, nice to see that one of the largest threads on MacRumours was considered unnecessary at it's inception.

I remember being on this thread when it was just a baby. Imagine how short it would have been if the Haswell rMBP actually came out at WWDC.

Yeah, I was there then too, but I took a long time for some reason to give my opinion in the thread. Well the benefit of this long wait has been the opportunity to meet new people and to learn something new.

I was certain there was going to be Haswell rMBP's at WWDC and was shocked when there weren't any. It made so much sense at the time. Haswell had just been released by Intel and the rMBP had been first released at WWDC the year before. There were even leaked part numbers - although I believe they turned out to be for the MacBook Airs.

I think when the Haswell rMBP's are finally released it's going to feel like I'm dreaming.

Its going to feel like your in a dream that could leave more to hope for. Notably Sharp's 4K displays that won't be ready till 2014... which means Apple will probably do another "refresh" in Early 2014 for Haswell with upgraded display and with it, maybe even better battery life.

I went through a lot this year, first I waited for the announcement at WWDC, then out of frustration ordered the current model, canceled the order again... waited longer. The waiting led me to a conclusion that I actually don't really need a new MacBook Pro that urgent anymore.

It's perfectly fine for me that the new MBPs will perhaps arrive only next year. I'm now mentally and financially better prepared for a Spring/Fall 2014 release.

Perhaps Broadwell+IGZO will be available as well by then.

I'm not so sure there will be higher resolution retina displays used in the rMBP line in 2014 at all. And IMO there's essentially no chance they'll appear in what is likely to be just a processor bump 'refresh' in late winter/early spring 2014.

Yes, there will always be better technology on the horizon. I've already decided to commit to buying this generation Haswell rMBP, the 13". At some point you just have to plant your flag and move on ;)

$2950 for base 15 rMBP
$3780 base high end
$4650 maxed out
Do you still think price in your country is high? Welcome to Czech.

Well the base high end in Czech Republic is cheaper than in France.

(Btw I went to Prague in March it's very nice!)
