The store itself is lovely, but DON'T go to the genius bar to get something repaired. Go to a smaller store if you can. I tried to get an iPad power cable replaced only 8 months after I had bought it (1 year warranty). Nope, they considered the light fraying of the cord customer caused damage, but the worst part was how they tried to convince me I was yanking it out and bending it instead of pulling it out correctly. Just plain wrong, and didn't seem to matter tons of people on the internet have the same problem with the same cable. Their cold, nothing-I-can-do-about-it attitude was terrible, unsympathetic, and dismissive, a bad way to treat a long-term customer with lots of their products. Very different from the service I have been used to at Apple stores. Maybe it's just such a high traffic store with lots of tourists that their care falls short, I don't know.

Long story short, I went to the New Haven store, and was in and out in 10 minutes after having a friendly chat with the employees and left with a smile on my face and a new cord.

Yep, the touristy stores are definitely bad for repairs. I have my choice of the Plaza in Kansas City or a high end surburban strip mall on the Kansas side. I've never been to the Plaza store for repairs, but parking is a mess, and it's father from where I live.

Now I feel like I should definitely pick up my Haswell rMBP at the store instead of getting it shipped. Damn you guys (and girls).

Epiphany!!!

1) Apple released the first rMBP (15") a couple weeks before ML was released, but it was announced at the same event. Now, Mavericks has a GM seeded to devs. already as of yesterday or two days ago so that could mean one of two things:
a. Apple will ship the new rMBPs on Oct. 15 ('available today') at their event WITH 10.9 preinstalled.
b. OR if they want to wait another week or two for 10.9, then the rMBPs will ship without Mavericks ('available today') at the event date and get a free upgrade when 10.9 comes out.
c. Apple could release the new rMBPs silently on Tuesday (the 8th) = least likely .

Or buy it in Canada, where it's actually slightly cheaper.

Yeah, he could get it for a couple hundred cheaper by flying to Canada, but those extra hours on the plane are brutal. Besides, if Apple keeps us waiting much longer it's gonna be COOOLLLDDD. And he's from temperate Brazil. Better off coming to sunny Southern California. I'll show him where to get a good burger so he doesn't have to go to mcdonalds ;) I'll even take him to a Kings game

Respectfully disagree, Walrus. My GF's 2013 MBA feels much sturdier and less flexible than my 2010 MBP17 did.

None of these are designed to be thrown around or rag-dolled, granted, but I think you'd have to be pretty careless or rough on one to inflict serious damage to that case.

The thing is the kids put them in their backpacks, which is not a good thing to do without a case, but that's what they do, along side of text books and whatnot. Anything can happen in that scenario. And the Airs especially are so thin....

Yeah, that's what I mean. There has to be something special to it with the architecture of the building or whatever, otherwise it's just your regular small-town Apple store. There are a few other Apple stores like that, but not many. Usually found in big cities like London or Madrid.

The only architecturally stunning Apple Store here in London is the one in Covent Garden. The others are your bog standard Apple Stores, which still are a hell of a lot more aesthetically pleasing than most other non-Apple Stores.

I visited the 5th Avenue Apple Store when I visited New York both in April and August this year, it is crazy busy even at 3am on a Monday night which was my first time I went. I must say that the exterior is incredibly more picturesque at night time. I didnt manage to visit the Grand Central store but its on my list when I next visit New York, which will likely be either May next year, or Christmas 2014.

One of my friends does that. We were at a Starbucks and she pulled her MacBook Pro out of her handbag, and it wasn't protected from the rest of the contents including her keys! I'm so overly careful with anything that its borderline OCD!

I'd love to do that, however London isn't the best of places to be carrying around an unopened £2000 laptop, especially when you are a average height, skinny, 20 year old gay. lol

This made the news... although the source is completely new to me.

Why are they teasing me like this??!??!

What makes the MacBook Pro Retina Haswell special
Posted October 5, 2013 - 16:28 by Emory Kale
The rumor is that MacBook Pro with the Intel Haswell processor will be released October 15, shortly followed by the general release of OS X 10.9 Maverick. The combination is supposed to give you greater power efficiency, hence battery life. It could also replace your aging MacBook Air.

The hopeful part of this article is nowhere do I see that eunuch's name, Kuo, tied to it. This gives me a ray of hope.

Yeah, I was referring to the Covent Garden store. I personally have never been to London, but I'm going next year. I know NYC like the back of my hand, so I can't wait to check out London. I've always been fascinated by the city, and I will definitely check out the Covent Garden Apple store when I'm there.

I hope it's the 15th! By the way, this might be a good place to ask...but how real is the claim that Apple makes on conserving power/battery for iTunes HD playback? Is that just an exaggerated marketing claim, or is it true? I don't doubt it, just curious.

I wonder if you'd get longer battery life watching an iTunes-provided video versus watching a similar video in VLC or something.

New York is my favourite place I've visited, and probably that I will visit, hence why I visited twice in 5 months, but I do love living in London. My local Apple Store is the one in Westfields Shepherds Bush, and it's boring but gets the job done! I'll only pick my Haswell rMBP up from there if my boyfriend is driving, I can't risk being mugged, but otherwise it'll be a telephone order. Can't get the university discount off campus unfortunately.

Is it that dangerous in London?

Pretty sure I saw a review by anandtech, and all the various battery life claims of the MacBook Air appeared to be accurate, and sometimes even better than advertised

Edit: Updated as of Page 408

The time is nearing.
Here is an updated list of the high-end (base) rMBP 15" prices in USD of each Country, as contributed by members of each country on this thread. If I were from Brazil I'd buy a ticket to the states to buy the rMBP :p

I wouldn't say dangerous, but then I wouldn't carry a brand new laptop from anywhere. There are parts of London that are pretty dodgy. East London, for example, is bad, as are parts of south London. I live in west London which is more posh than some areas, but I'm not willing to take the risk.

Where did you get the $3,494 figure for New Zealand? It says $4,199 on Apple's country-specific website.

I saw your post and realised that you had not converted it to USD. I noticed that because NZ and AUS are very similar in prices.
Conversion rate atm is 1 NZ = 0.8322 USD
$4,199 x 0.8322 = $3,494

They don't cite any source, which probably means the author is probably just guessing like the rest of us. Though, by now, there's no point in guessing. It's either the 15th or the 22nd, right along with Mavericks and the new Mac Pro.

Ain't that the truth. And now, there's this article by Crooke Brothers or whatever his name is.

Why am I so disillusioned that I don't believe anyone anymore?:rolleyes::D

I don't agree. The release of Mavericks is obviously right around the corner; with it having gone GM, Apple won't just sit on it. But there's no evidence that the supply problems that kept a new MBP out of our hands in June don't still remain.

The MBA and iMac are still fresh, the iPhone 5s and 5c are brand-new, Mavericks is soon, the Mac Pro will happen before year-end, and there will probably be new iPads soon as well. Apple has a lot to focus on - and if they play all of their cards right now then there's going to be a drought for another few seasons.

I still predict February for the new MacBooks Pro.

Not me brother. 400 sit-ups a day and I would never be caught dead in a Mcdonalds. Yech.

BTW, I call you Maple man cause you're a leafs fan. No offense intended.

Well, I was talking about Americans in general. I couldn't figure out a better nickname for you. What should I call you then?
