If you head over to their GPU page, they make direct comparisons to the 2012 rMBP's graphics card as well as the other likely GPU candidates for Haswell rMBP.

Let the iGPU vs dGPU flame wars begin (again)

This is exactly the reason I can only imagine the next rMBP with a dGPU. Apple can be "crazy, risky", but this is to much. For such an expensive (flagship) product, you can't go Iris Pro only. iGPU's are getting better and better, but it's not strong enough yet to completely replace dGPU's. I'm pretty sure it will be something like HD4400 + NVIDIA 750M.

Like in the case for imacs.. will be 2 configs: one with Iris pro and one with dGPU

Looks like so. Semiaccurate was wrong after all, there will be 2 specs. But availability for iMacs tell the story too: nVidia version available 2-3 weeks after launch. Looks like it was a last minute change.

I really wonder how will a 750GT rMBP with maxed-out CPU work in full load condition. My 2.7 8MB cache with 650GT throttles all the time when I play games or run any CPU+GPU demanding tasks.

So, we should see invites tomorrow if they are having the event at the 15th, anyone excited?

I don't really care if the base 15" only comes with Iris Pro, but I definitely would expect there to be a price cut to justify the decrease in graphics performance. $1999 and $1799 with student discount would be a good starting point.

Hey guys,

I'm having a dilemma. I'm waiting for the new rMBP with Haswell ever since I wanted a new MacBook, back in april. My current MacBook has no sound any more. The speaker icon is greyed out, quite annoying. And because I did pretty much audio/video editing (I studied journalism) I really needed sound on my MacBook. Well, right now I'm at home very often (because I quit my study) where I have my iMac to work on. When I am not at home, I use my iPad.

Conclusion: I don't really need a new MacBook right now, but my current one needs to be replaced, before I get back to school for full-time. What would you guys do? Buy the Haswell when it's out or wait for a new model somewhere in 2014? Let's say I'm going back to school september 2014. Would it be worth the wait till then?

Please your advice!

Broadwell won't be released in September 2013, but rather in November (there was a message regarding that somewhere in the middle of this thread).

If you don't need it now and it waits until late fall 2014, don't buy Haswell. Otherwise, it's pretty clear. The march of technology is inevitable, so in 2014 you will probably thinking the same thing "Gee, I heard this X-well is gonna be even more powerful than Broadwell, should I wait for it?"

It's hard to say because we don't know what the refresh this month will bring, and even less about any 2014 refresh. I would wait until Haswell release happens, and then post this question in the Waiting for Broadwell rMBP Mega Thread.

I feel the reason apple doesn't increase the gpu in the rMBP 15 to an 660 or 670 is because of heat issues? I've seen several places that the current MacBook Pro 15 has heat issues. Is this correct? Please explain

New haswell. I saided that, because I'm going to buy one. I'm doing law, and I need a notebook too (I'm using iPad for typing), also 10h~13h of battery life is so great. And, you already can sell your Haswell rMBP to buy Broadwell one. :D

*Sorry about my english, I'm trying to no use translator anymore to write here (MacRumors).

How much do you want to spend? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186035

Yes I know, that's my point. I guess I should have formulated my question differently:
Is it normal for a MBP to have this few leaks before a release of a new generation or did all the other generations have significantly more leaks?

I hope I'm clear this time :)

USUALLY, a few days before the update 9to5 Mac gets part numbers for the Macs.

This DID NOT happen with the iMac update however last week.

But it is almost definitely happening this month. Don't worry, it's coming.

Don't believe this - don't believe anything or anyone. Seriously and joking at the same time.

I joined this forum in February when I planned on buying my first mac. I was advised to wait because the new rMBP was only weeks away. Then this thread was created and over 10,000 posts later, after WWDC predictions, BTS predictions, September promises, predictions based on apple.com shipping times, October Tuesday prediction, still.no.rmbp.

I've gone through mood swings and disappointments and all I can say is I'm happy my Dell laptop is still chugging along - even though it freezes with youtube.

The fact is no one knows and all these predictions are based on 100% guesswork and make-believe. There are even press releases articles from trusted sources like PRWeb . And don't get me started on that eunuch they call Kuo. I'm not bitter, haha.

Just bide your time like the rest of us and don't believe any prediction. It could be next week or next year. Nothing has been promised so don't expect anything at all. If you really need a laptop today, buy what's available today. If not, wait a month and see if something is released but don't get your hopes up because no one knows a thing.

We could talk about the pros and cons of iGPU versus dGPU if you really want to

Yes we can :D
That's possible, but I think they primarily stock three models (codenamed better, best, ultimate?). If you have a look at the specs in store on the iPads, it shows three models including the two base models as well as a maxed out model.

EDIT: In case the iGPU/dGPU debate needs some more fuel:
"This year, the entry level 21.5-inch model gets Iris Pro 5200 while the rest feature updated NVIDIA Kepler discrete GPUs. It’s the same bifurcation that I expect to find on the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display. As we found in our preview of Intel’s Iris Pro 5200, in its fastest implementation the GPU isn’t enough to outperform NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 650M (found in the 2012 15-inch rMBP). Apple’s engineers aren’t particularly fond of performance regressions, so the NVIDIA GPUs stick around for those who need them, and for the first time we get a truly decent integrated option from Intel."
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7399/...3-review-iris-pro-driving-an-accurate-display

So that apple engineers admit themselves that it is a regression :D

Broadwell won't be released in September 2013, but rather in November

Does anyone have any more info on broadwell other than it being even more efficient than Haswell, and another bump of 15-30% performance increase? If so, isn't that almost exactly what Haswell is/will be compared to Ivy bridge?

it still seems too quiet for a event to happen on the 15th.. have not heard the usual "yep" from the loop that we got from the iphone event.

So tomorrow it can happens:

1) Invitations

2) Silent refresh

3) Sadly... nothing!

My guess is:

1) 45%
2) 15%
3) 40%

Or we get the invitations next week. Don't rule out the event happening on the 22nd. So many people are disappointed just because we haven't heard anything and assume that means no new Macs are coming. They definitely are.

Yeah, but then I really gonna need it. At the moment I don't, so waiting looks like the better option. But since I've been waiting so long for Haswell, I don't know if I can wait ANOTHER year. The wait, it's unbearable!

My guess is:

1) 1% - when did apple announce an event date anyway? The rumored event is only listed in one place, Christian Post, and I bet it has Kuo's fingers all over it.

2) 1% - hey, there's always a possibility

3) 98%

PRWeb is hardly a trusted source. Anyone can post a bogus press release on that pile of feces and have Google publish it on gNews as gospel.

That was my point - I was being facetious. Did not think I needed to italicize and put smileys over it. ;)

Is it just me or since the iMac silent refresh, Tuesday mornings/afternoons (UK) have never been so exciting?

A technical question.

I knew that one of the most important differences between i5 and i7 processors was Hyper-threading but I found out that also haswell i5 have it.

So out of a bigger L3 cache what are the differences between i7 and i5?

Agreed. I think it's all going to happen a week later than everyone expects. The invitations are probably coming next week with the event the following week. Just a little longer to go...
