Agreed. I think it's all going to happen a week later than everyone expects. The invitations are probably coming next week with the event the following week. Just a little longer to go...

Well we heard more rumors for an event on Oct 15th than on Oct 22th that's why most people here are expecting the invitations to be sent tomorrow.

Damn! 13 hours of battery life! this XPS is real impressive! too bad I am looking for a 13" notebook

Too bad it's a Dell. Dell's build quality has turned into the biggest piles of crap over the past several years (speaking as a corporate buyer). Pretty much as laughable as the Razor Blade.

And I can't believe some people on here are praising the XPS 15 so much. At first sight.

I'm crossing my fingers that the new iPad's come out at the same time as the new rMBP so I can order both at the same time. It would be even nicer if they both came in Space Grey.

I know and that's what I was hoping for too. But it's been nearly silent for at least two weeks. I think unless we have invitations from Apple or a "yep" from Dalrymple today or tomorrow the event won't be next week. Hopefully the week afterwards though.

I think we can all agree that the sooner, the better :)

wait what about the Razer Blade?

its no good?

I was thinking of trying one out

What the hell is IGZO? If you want a gaming laptop, Macbook is not the one to get.

15" rMBP is one of the best gaming notebooks available on the market IMO.

I would even say the MBA is one of the best notebooks for playing the most common PC games.

that is basically everything we already know... people guessing based on what happened last year and that mavericks is now GM.

The article does say that the "keynote" event is slated for next week. But no source is provided. So I assume that this is also speculation?

pretty much just guessing and from the rumors that stated that the event will be the 15th.

Hey guys,

I'm having a dilemma. I'm waiting for the new rMBP with Haswell ever since I wanted a new MacBook, back in april. My current MacBook has no sound any more. The speaker icon is greyed out, quite annoying. And because I did pretty much audio/video editing (I studied journalism) I really needed sound on my MacBook. Well, right now I'm at home very often (because I quit my study) where I have my iMac to work on. When I am not at home, I use my iPad.

Conclusion: I don't really need a new MacBook right now, but my current one needs to be replaced, before I get back to school for full-time. What would you guys do? Buy the Haswell when it's out or wait for a new model somewhere in 2014? Let's say I'm going back to school september 2014. Would it be worth the wait till then?

Please your advice!

I think there is a fix for that sound problem. Reset the pram or something. Check the apple support forum.

See if a USB audio interface solves your problems.

A few minutes of googling found this one for $30 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UCA222/ but there are many other options.

The built-in audio in working macbooks is pretty good, so I don't always carry one in my laptop bag anymore, unless I'm sure I'm going to be doing some audio mixing or editing, or recording. But back when I had windows laptops I always carried one because the quality was so much better than the built-in audio, even if the latter was functioning.

You would probably want an external speaker too. Well, of course you want an external speaker, the speakers in laptops are all crap for any editing or serious work. If you get a bluetooth speaker you should be able to use it via the bluetooth audio profile, without your USB audio interface and without relying on any of the parts that are likely broken in your laptop.

Or you could see about getting your existing machine fixed. Even if you want to buy a new machine, you should still consider fixing your old machine for resale purposes.

If a USB audio interface and bluetooth speakers don't work with your laptop, I'm guessing it's a software problem, not a hardware problem. You might try a reinstall after a backup, and see if it solves your problem. (Note: I never "try a reinstall" because I'm an old OS hack and I'd rather learn about what's going on by trying to fix it. But if you're not an old OS hack it's a worthwhile experiment, at least: if the reinstall fixes your issue it probably means your hardware is fine.)

That eunuch they call Kuo sure does get around.

----------

Either way, we are basically two weeks max away from seeing the Haswell rMBP. That is exciting.

And very sad at the same time. I will miss this thread.

This thread ain't going away. In 2 weeks, there will be rumors of a Halloween silent release, followed by Black Friday release, then Xmas release, all in time for another Back-to-school release.

By this time, Kuo would had fled the land due to a huge influx of effigies.
