I was not able to get the Apple Online store to match the Mac Mall price offered for the 2012 model but they did take $309 off of for a 2013 rMBP build to order model.
A new Apple retail store opened in my area recently and I introduced myself to the manager. He agreed to extend the return period on my rMBP to an additional two weeks. I honestly would like to just return in now. However, I need a new lapotp by the end of October and I am afraid that if the Haswell rMBP does not come out, I will not be able to get Apple to honor the $309 discount I got on my build to order unit.

What should I do? I am concerned that he may not honor my return after the 14 day period. So should I return it and potentially lose my $309 discount in hopes that the Haswell rMBP will come out in October? If it doesn't, I am forced to buy the same unit I alread have but it will cost me $309 more.

Decisions, decisions...

I feel like it's going to be later, I'm sure Mavericks will happen after the call on the 28th..

Later than the 29th? I definitely agree with Mavericks being after the earnings call. But I'm sure they will want to talk about either Mavericks or the rMBP at the event.

Mavericks is pretty much ready to go though. Don't know why they would wait until the 29th.

They didn't wait too long to release iOS 7 after the GM, and look how buggy it still is!

lol dude. It's ok. We all know the risks and benefits of using credit vs. debit cards. No need to be so extreme about it.

Nothing new, but welcome.

LOL - not trying to be extreme. Anyway, back to playing the waiting game. :D

Sorry how do you know for october 22?

Confirm this the news and I will patiently wait until then.

Jesus I change my mind a lot in these weeks. Yep, I come here knowing almost nothing. The more I read the more I updated my feelings about macbooks.

So I will wait two more long weeks, but at least we have a date.

Again confirm me please....

AllThingsD pretty much confirmed it. Of course nothing is actually confirmed until Apple sends the invite, but it's hard to say it isn't confirmed.

She's not paying for all of it... It's just easier for her to order it online for pickup or ship it to her where sales tax is less and I can get it at Thanksgiving (not ideal, but it saves some money). Either way it's easier for her to charge it rather than sending me the money. Personally I'm hoping for a small price drop. Then I can probably get her to order it for pickup and I can get it sooner :)

Yes!! It's also tempting to bombard him on Twitter.

I tried going that route. I'm a consultant and travel every week so I thought I had a few options to avoid taxes. Guess not! I live in Illinois, but work in Minnesota. Both states charge tax. I can fly to California or New York to visit family, but the sales tax is more in all those states. Funny enough, the place with the least amount of tax is Chicago.

Hmm, gives me an idea. Maybe I can drive to Indiana to pick it up. Guess not - sales tax is higher there and gas would cost more. LOL.

No they will definitely talk about both at the event, I just don't know if the rMBP will be available until after the earnings call

Tax in San Diego where I live is 8% and California charges a recycle fee which is another $6 or so

Yeah, that's what I meant. I can totally see a scenario in which they are both announced at the event, but not available until a week later.

Is it normal for Apple to hold an event releasing many new products, 6 days before an earnings call? I thought they don't like releasing new products right before those.

also assuming there is an event on the 22nd, what is the % chance rMBP will be there? 100%? 75%? 50%? less than 50?

Hmm this waiting game is getting silly. 'Maybe tomorrow....'

And I am inclined to agree with the guy who said it might be Feb. Although that seems arbitrary too. Could be 'never'. Imagine the crying if they have a keynote in Oct and no MBP. Just iPads. In lots of different colours.

So... Who wants to print this thread and mail it, one page at a time, to Tim Cook?

Ha. A somewhat obscure Jackson 5 song from 1972 has just become relevant again. #Maybe tomorrow I'll have a Mac in my arms girl#

They updated the long awaited iMacs at the last iPad Mini/iPad event... Maybe they will update the long awaited MacBook Pros at the next iPad Mini/iPad event!

Well the new products wouldn't actually be released before it. They would come after. Announcing and releasing are two different things.

I'm putting my money on the rMBP being announced on the 22nd, but available starting the 29th. But anything can happen.

Well announcing doesn't necessarily mean launching.
Here's what I really fear: no talk on the rMBP during the event but silent release with the launch of Mac Pro and mavericks.
