So from the ATD report, we will be waiting until Feb 2014 now??? With a 5-8 month old processor?? UGH DAMMIT APPLE

No mention of the rMBP in the report doesn't mean anything. The rMBP is a minor update like the MBA was, and I doubt Apple will talk about it for more than 2-3 minutes.

He actually came into my workplace, and I chatted him up. But that was when I knew I knew more than he did.

I would love to work at the Apple store myself, but my nearest one is 20 miles away and my job wouldn't let me take off on the weekends anyway.

Weekend availability is pretty much a must there. It's a fun job, launch days are my favorite!

Hey now not all Apple Store employees are like that! I guess I'm the 1 time out of 10 because I'm an Apple Store employee and I would like to think I'm pretty intelligent when it comes to Apple products and technology in general. As far as future products, we all frequent MacRumors because the top dogs in Cupertino don't give us any inside information

----------

Apple Store employees don't get much inside information. We get part numbers in advance but we don't know what exactly they correspond to until we open the boxes.

How many Apple employees actually ever check MacRumours (at your Apple store)? Well, I meant anything that would notify the employees that there will be a new product. How's the discount for Apple employees? If I remember correctly, there is a regular discount of around 15-20%, and a larger discount you can only use every three years or so.

I really don't get why some people are continuing to suggest it won't be released until 2014. We don't need to explain how ridiculous that is.

This is it! According to the latest rumored announcement on a possible Oct. 22nd, it's safe to say that it's absolutely uncertain whether there will be any new MacBook Pro release later this year. 2014 is bombarding danger close the next MBP release.

Literally nothing to suggest that. I mean, there's nothing concrete to suggest any specific release date so feel free to get yourself worked up about whichever option you prefer (incoming silent refresh, release on the 22nd at the event, released with Mavericks on the 29th, delayed until 2015 and will run Core 2 Duo).

My point is that you have to realize that the rMBP refresh is not a big deal to anyone who wasn't already planning to buy an rMBP. This impending Haswell refresh prevents people from buying now, but very few people are going to run out and buy an rMBP because of the improved battery life. Notice that there were no rumors about the iMac refresh either, likely for the same reason: Just not very interesting. There wasn't anything about the Air either, was there? Maybe a leaked part number right before the refresh, but that was it.

i'm fine with just a silent update. if they do talk about it.. all i wanna hear is how much the battery life has jumped like the air and i'd be sold.

Where did it say that?
everything I've read says that a MacBook is still possible

In the report from All Things Digital they dont mention anything about the MacBook Pros....which Im hoping is an oversight on their part. Enlighten us, where are you seeing the rMBP on for Oct 22nd event? I hope you are right, it would be a shame to wait until Feb 2014 (basing it on refresh history).

Almost all of us check out MacRumors and 9to5mac. We like to see what may or may not be coming just like everyone else. As for your discount question I can't really talk about that publicly cause I don't want to lose my job haha but Apple takes care of us.

Yea, I get your point. Youre right about the MBA, they have just been so dang quite with the pros! Im hopeful there is an announcement.....

My credit card is going to be smoking in a couple weeks.. assuming a new rMBP. I'll be ordering a loaded 15" rMBP and loaded iPad 5 wi-fi with Applecare for both.

Me too. My Apple fund has grown to over $7,500 and I just want EVERYTHING. Fully-loaded rMBP, new ipad, applecare for both. I was even considering ipad mini, but it'll be a definite waste. An Apple TV would also be pointless as I rarely use my office - have a brand new Dell desktop that's hardly used.

Maybe I can get Time Machine, but I'm still trying to figure out what it is and how it's different from AirPort. LOL

I just hope the new MBPs have more than 16GB ram and a lot more than 1TB SSD.

Then I guess you really didn't want a rMBP in the first place, eh?

Well that's how it went for me.

I went a month ago to an apple store, had a look at MB models and found that I like most rMBP.
Then I went there, looking on internet about opinions and so on on macbook pro retina. I was (still I am) disappointed on MBA screen quality, that's the reason why I discarded it at first istance. At this point in time, if haswell rMBP was out on the market I surely would have bought it.
Then recently I got two guys who uses MBA daily, I had the opportunity to play with it (none uses rMBP - MBA and cMBP are instead quite common in my department) and I started to consider three things:
1) MBA screen is bad compared with rMBP, not in absolute sense although characters are small (can be fixed more or less for what I need)
2) For what I save with MBA I can buy a nice big display to use at home thus having the air form factor (way more beautiful than rMBP, but this are personal preferences) and a comfortable screen at home
3) I really need a portable computer the sooner the better

This does not mean I will buy the Air. With (finally) a sticky date, if the rMBP come out I will decide. For example with a 150€ price drop or 256GB SSD in the base model for sure I'll get rMBP, while if Apple increases prices of rMBP I'll go for the Air. If rMBP remains the same I will think on it a lot. If rMBP does not come out I'll go for the Air.

I think here in this discussion a lot of person changed mind, bought MBA or at least considered it in some moments. So I'm not special in this sense, I guess. I'm here because I hope I will make a better choice if I'm informed more.

lol dude the EPP terms and discounts are posted all over the internet anyway..

I'm pretty sure you can because I read up on it in an article somewhere a couple of months ago. At least tell me if I was close to being right.

Got it. I wasn't judging you, just wanted to hear your thoughts. So thanks for sharing.

Honestly, what this delay has done for me, is allow me to really think about what specs I want on the rMBP. If it had been released at WWDC, I would have no doubt gone for maxed out everything.

I have changed my mind on things in regards to screen size and specs, but I've always been decided on the rMBP.

The usual apple consumer doesn't even know the difference between Ivy Bridge and Haswell. It's all good, because both will be more than suitable browsing the web, posting on Facebook/twitter etc. and checking some e-mails in Safari. Only battery times will perhaps raise a few eyebrows, but it won't be much difference for the usual customers using their machines at home as DTRs.

Did we find the troll yet? No? I'm sure he's around here somewhere.

Let me put an end to this undying discussion. The top journalism school in the nation which my girlfriend attends is ASU Walter Cronkite School of Mass Communication and Journalism.

I'm sure ASU is the top journalism school which your girlfriend attends. Meanwhile, the top Journalism schools in the nation, which your girlfriend does not attend, are Columbia, Northwestern, and Missouri.
