What if the rMBP will actually be better than any competing notebook.

Which is pretty much was when it came out. Everyone has copied it already.

When it came out, it offered better OS experience (in my opinion), better trackpad, better display, better battery life and better looks than most competitors.

Well I'm serious! It's like with everything we've speculated about beaten to a pulp, and with Haswell being in production for several months, and other notebooks getting IGZO, either the rMBP is gonna show up to the party in bell-bottoms and chest hair, or it's gonna show up in a stretch Mercedes..

Hi everyone, first post, also waiting for the new rMBP to replace my iMac 27'. Just realized that I need may computer to be couch-capable.

Yeah, this website makes a very dubious impression. Have seen multiple similar stories from them. Seems like click-baiting to me.

I replaced my 27" iMac with my current rMBP and I REALLY miss my iMac. Editing on it was beautiful and when people came over it was nice to screen my work. Now I squint at the retina display and it's just not the same. So so sad... definitely thinking about buying a Thunderbolt 2 Display or just another iMac.

Wouldn't count on it. If you do, it can only result into disappointment when it doesn't come true.

What I honestly do not get is that putting a new CPU into a laptop takes so long time. The Haswell was presented beginning of June. I know that this has been talked about before in this thread, but why would they wait 5 months if there is nothing else. It can't be that they waited this long just to get TB2 into it.

The problem is almost certainly a lack of CPUs. Intel "launches" a product when you can theoretically buy them, but that doesn't mean they're available in large quantities.

If you look around you'll see that no one else has launched similar Haswell-based laptops yet either. For example Dell's Haswell XPS15, which is basically a direct rMBP competitor, is available on Oct 15th.

The possibility of an (optional) 3360x2100 screen to match the cMBP's 1680x1050 option natively hasn't gotten enough love. ;-)
Apple will not increase the resolution of the rMBP this year. The resolution is already fantastic and, while yet higher resolution would be nice, it is more important to keep the prices down.

The current Ivy Bridge rMBPs are already better than any competing notebook.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but Ivy was released almost exactly one year earlier(in May) and then they launched the rmbp 15 inch in June. Also this year they managed to get Haswell CPU's into the new Air in June. I understand that it's not the same model that will end up in rmbp but still then it must have been a serious problem at Intel for this platform generation.

I think Igzo is a strong possibility now. If dell can get it, apple definitely can.

You know, a nice big TV with an HDMI-in can work pretty well as a stand-in external display if this is about having people over to screen your work. A lot of people use them as second screens for editing, too--especially when working from home, obviously.

Just saying, not every technological need you encounter has to be met by the most expensive solution available... ;)

Yeah, unfortunately they're gonna look like chumps. Unless they actually do have IGZO. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, with how seldom the leaks have been for Macbooks these past couple years

The new 21.5" iMac base model has the same Haswell chip that many people are expecting on the rMBP 15" (in case of no-dGPU). And it is shipping in quantity. So, either they are waiting for the availability of some other hardware part, or they want to introduce the update in an event.

Yeah! Take the MacBook Pro and add one or two more USB3 ports, make the memory and SSD user-upgradable, give it an Ethernet port and a Kensington lock port, make the display non-glossy (I don't know of anyone who prefers the reflective display anyway), and give it at least a GeForce 765M. Now you're talking!

I had a dream within a dream last night... I dreamt Apple launched the new MBP and you could customize the crap out of it. If you wanted more performance and less battery life, you could choose a better GPU, you could get an IGZO screen if you wanted, you could get a thicker frame if you wanted more battery, you could even get it anodized black. It was amazing... then I woke up from the dream within the dream and started telling people how awesome my dream was. Then I woke up and I was like :(

Haha I had a dream like that a week ago! I've been waiting since MAY. I have no computer at home since then - just my iphone

It already exists this notebook and it's called cMBP.

We have abundance of MB in the 13" range: cMBP for those who want upgradability, rMBP for those who want a gorgeous display and MBA for those who need a light and thin notebook on the go.

::belch:: oh yeah, now we're talking..

:D

I have a dream. I have a dream, that one day, Apple will rise up and make a rMBP that's so awesome that all posters in this thread will be satisfied.
I have a dream, that one day at the headquarters of Apple in California, sons of iGPU-lovers and dGPU-lovers will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream today.

lol I love it

765M and you have me. I think the rMBP's display is great...but it needs 2 more notches up for brightness. I feel like they nerfed the max brightness for battery life....the cMBP is much brighter at max

Well after the iPod, iPhone, and iPad, it was only a matter of time till iNception

You better believe it...
..that's what he's saying..
..but it's just speculation..

I think IGZO displays are almost guaranteed in the 2014 rMBP. For 2013 I think it's less likely. None of the rumours suggesting it seem very reliable to me, but Apple could have kept something secret. It's probably not worth it at this point unless the IGZO display adds several hours of battery life. Switching tech would be expensive, especially given Apple's unique demands for resolution and aspect ratio. The smaller body of the new iPad, however, suggests to me that it might be using an IGZO screen. The technology also improves touch sensitivity, which makes sense on an iPad or a touch laptop, not so much on a rMBP.

As far as Dell is concerned we know for certain that they have IGZO monitors in their October lineup. The M4800 workstation uses a matte Quad HD+ screen, and the XPS 15 uses a glossy touch Quad HD+. The upcoming M3800 (an XPS 15 with a Quadro professional graphics card) will also use IGZO. The XPS 11 apparently also uses an IGZO display. This makes sense since it matches a screen size and resolution that Sharp has previously said they would be making.

I have a similar dream with regards to mobile OS users (re my signature).

Great idea! That will show them how serious we are. Who will volunteer as a tribute? Anyone? :p

Eh, I don't know about quantity. I have to seriously doubt that anyone sells all-in-one systems in high volume anymore, even Apple. Its release as a silent refresh kind of makes the point. I think if you looked at iMac sales you'd find they're much lower than MBP sales.

Do we have numbers on that from any recent period? I have to admit I'm making that up entirely from the state of the PC market, where no one wants a desktop and barely anyone is making all-in-one machines.

I'm not saying there couldn't be something else, this is just seems like the most reasonable theory at the moment with all of the comparable laptops also waiting to release.

I think there are laws against bringing laptops with batteries larger than 100 Wh on airplanes unless they are separate slice or sheet batteries. Given that the rMBP is already at 95 Wh it seems unlikely that we will see gains in battery life from a bigger battery.
