That cannot be correct because no manufacturer has yet shipped a laptop with any of the Haswell CPUs we expect in the MBPs.

There are laptops with the Iris Pro that are already out. I know that the new rMBPs will use a different model; however, I'm fairly certain that if Apple wanted those chips in July, Intel would've delivered.

Any thoughts on whether the Mac Pro will be released on the 22nd? Mavericks is ready for release, so they'd presumably want to release new hardware alongside it.

You know, a nice big TV with an HDMI-in can work pretty well as a stand-in external display if this is about having people over to screen your work. A lot of people use them as second screens for editing, too--especially when working from home, obviously.

Just saying, not every technological need you encounter has to be met by the most expensive solution available... ;)

That is where most external monitors fall short. My cameras shoot in both 2.5k (2432 x 1366) and 4k (4096 x 2160) footage. Most TVs only display 1080p (1920x1080) presenting a scaling issue, in addition, the color reproduction is different from what I would actually be seeing from my Mac, there is also the matter of refresh rate, potential latency issues. It's way easier and streamlined having everything work harmoniously together in one (aka iMac 2560x1440) I never buy things full out retail my last iMac I bought for $1300 when it was MSRP for $1999.

You don't think it's possible that it'll just have Iris Pro?

I mean probably Iris Pro in base and 7xx high end. Same as iMac. People dismiss that for the "Oh well MBP is a laptop so it'll be different". Except the MBP has had the same GPU as the 21.5 inch iMac for the past 2 years..and even with this controversial Iris Pro GPU, it would only make the statement stronger for the rMBP to follow suit with their same GPUs, since they even put the Iris Pro in the iMac.

So this delay is mainly because of IGZO Displays? I think some of you guys have been sniffing the battery glue coming from the innards of your current rMBP’s for too long.

This is all about Intel.

Why you think it is a delay? It is not a delay! Apple is a very predictable company. They released the MBP very often on a 8 month cycle and the last release was in February and we have very often seen October updates following February updates. It isn't always like this but very often. Just look at the buyers guide. Just because some analyst dude predicted WWDC doesn't mean that there is a delay.

It would be nice if that brings the entry cost of the 15" down and one can still upgrade the RAM and SSD.

It's all just rumors based on rumors. Those blogs have nothing better to post, they just do it to get more visits.

Only time will tell, whether it's a leak or the event itself.

Dang, this is the most active thread I've ever seen in my life. I've been out only two days and it's like many pages ahead but I'm too tired to go through fights and trolls trolling around.

This is exactly what I'm expecting as well, it only makes sense to follow a similar spec sheet as the new iMacs

I prefer the glossy display. I don't like the look of anti-glare screens, they ruin the design aesthetic of the computer/monitor, in my opinion.

I agree. I've always liked the sleek vibrant look of the glossy display. And forget about the Ehernet port, which I need. The body of the retina can not accommodate an Ethernet port. I haven't heard anything about Apple looking for ways to make the laptops bigger or heavier;)

So, I was just wondering...

Here in Belgium we have a -10% back to school discount going on until oktober 27th at one of the larger Apple retailers.

Would this indicate an availability of the new MBP(r) models after okt 27th? With an announcement of new models on okt 22nd?

Aren't the new MBP's usually available right after announcement?

Marketing scheme aside, it's probably just an other strategy to sell older models while they still can and deplete existing stock. I was kinda hoping for the same discount on the newer models tho.

Some laptops using Iris Pro have been announced, but show us one that is shipping.

You're trying to extrapolate from a data set that is more than an order of magnitude too small to have any statistical significance.

Macs are revised annually following the release of new CPUs from Intel. Occasionally, there may be a minor update (such the February 2013 rMBP) between annual updates. Every three to five years, there is a major redesign (the last two for the MBP were the rMBP in 2012 and the unibody in 2008). The MBP is certainly not due for a major redesign this year, though the Mac Pro is known to be and the Mac mini might be.

It would be nice if that brings the entry cost of the 15" down and one can still upgrade the RAM and SSD.
There are two reasons to expect a cost reduction for the 15" rMBP: higher yields and lower costs for the Retina display and elimination of the discrete GPU.

All SSDs in Macs so far have been upgradeable, so I'm puzzled why so much ink has been spilled on upgradeability/non-upgradeability of Apple's SSDs. The DRAM is virtually certain to be fixed.

This is exactly what I'm expecting as well, it only makes sense to follow a similar spec sheet as the new iMacs
... except that the issues of size, weight, and power consumption are completely different from desktops to laptops.

The point is not in that presumption though. If the iMac (21.5) came with a 765M base then you might be able to extrapolate based on those circumstances, but instead it came with the "lowest" 7-series chip we could possibly expect, therefore the odds are ever more in the favor that it would not be a problem for the rMBP.

Of course, the Iris Pro in the iMac is a much higher wattage piece because it carries the desktop CPU with it, however we are still aware of a fully operable 47W Iris Pro component for laptops, so that point also holds no ground.

Apple has the same schemes here in America. Our back to school discount that ended a month ago. We all knew that they would not release the new retina during that sale or for 14 days after the end of the sale so people could not return their new machines. In your case, if the new computer comes out on the 22 as we hope, I wouldn't count on it being available in Belgium until 2 weeks after your sale ends. In the meantime, you get better chocolate than us

The austrian one ends oct 20th.
But there was one time, when new Macbooks where released during. As far as I can remember, Apple send new models for all those who ordered models with longer shipping times

People have gotten so used to "leaks" that they now assume that no leaks = no product announcement? They could announce the new rMBP on the 22nd of October, without there being leaks, you know.. :p

There could be an update without any recent leaks. But there have been multiple Haswell rMBP leaks/rumors, just none recently. I'd be shocked if there were no stories about part numbers or something else before the 22nd.

You misspelled "beer" there...

Oh hey buddy, I've worked 6 films in Bulgaria, and I've worked in Poland, Prague and Spain, so I'm well versed in how much better your beer is than ours. I once did a 7 month stint and when I got back home it tasted like I was drinking sparkling water. But that's Ok, we have better sports and our Apple products are much cheaper
