Just some random website speculating that Apple will release a new rmbp on the 22nd.

Exactly! I just find it funny all the copying and pasting these random sites are doing...

----------

Thanks for sharing. But I honestly don't need any rumors or leaks for me to feel better about it coming on the 22nd. So many naysayers do.

I will be standing by on the 22nd ready to order!! ;)

Hey guys, I recently purchased a nice wireless Bluetooth speaker that I use with my iphone. I was just curious if there is anyway I could use this with the new rMBP 15? It also has a 3.5 aux port. Thanks for your time

I am wondering if we will see a price drop on the 13-inch. Even if it's by $100.

If the cMBP goes away for good, I could see $100 happening to narrow the price gap between the Air and the Retinas. I'd be surprised if it was any more than $100 though.

Yeah, $100 less would still be nice. I'm still betting that we will still see a 128GB SSD as standard, though.

It would be nice, and also a price drop of the 15" too!

I cannot recall, which size/configuration are you after?

availability on amazon after launch

anybody keep tabs on how long after a macbook update that it becomes available on amazon? I'll be sorely tempted to order direct from apple but 5% credit card rewards right now for amazon which isn't nothing on such an expensive purchase...

Retina MacBook Air to replace MacBook Pro Haswell 2013?

...

Is it possible that this year’s Retina MacBook Pro with Intel Haswell is the last iteration of the MacBook Pro? Can a Retina MacBook Air post bigger revenue and market share gain than the MacBook Pro?
...

So Apple is going to replace their pro-level product for the lower end because it has a nicer screen? That's like replacing the Mac Pro with the iMac.

Situation here. I've never had a mac, and am considering the refreshed rMBP 13" as my first.

My problem is that I only get to go into a city that has an apple store every other weekend, and since I've never really handled a mac with the intention of buying, I'd really like to get a thorough grasp of it before dropping my $$$.

How soon after announcement are floor models available? I'm also probably going to have to custom order online and have it shipped to the store. Darn, this will be almost a month of waiting after release :(

(also there was little to no discussion of having more than 8GB of ram on the 13" model, I hope this comes true)

It's usually only a day or two before they will be available in stores. But keep in mind, the new models will be no different on the outside. So you can always go now or whenever the next time you can is.

You can always custom-order online and have it shipped to you. Then you still have the option of returning it with no charge if you want.

There may or may not be a 16GB RAM option on the 13-inch this year, but it'll definitely come with 8GB.

/brainfart. I am silly, of course that's an excellent solution! It's too early and I need coffee. Thanks!

You know what's nice? I got the day off of school today because it's a professional development day for teachers, which means I can spend some more time on this thread.:D

I havent, it was just part of a discussion on twitter....so you can only imagine how true it is, LOL

Also waiting....

Despite my user name..I'm also new to Macs although I sold the original Macs back in the early 80s when I worked in a retail computer franchise. I've been a computer professional since then and owe my pension and career path (I taught people how to fix and troubleshoot PCS for thirteen years at a community college) to how flaky Redmond's products have always been.

A few years ago I purchased an Ipod Touch and was introduced to the world of Apple. It wasn't long before my wife and I owned iPads. Then we got iPhones. Naturally I fell in love with Apple products.

Since I love tech and especially operating systems I can hardly wait to learn the ins and outs of OS X.

The laptop I don't use, but own, is a Lenovo Thinkpad T43. I hate it! It's slow, buggier than all get out, drops the wifi connection regularly and takes forever to boot. Every time I turn it on after a month or two I get to look forward to at least half an hour of Microsoft security and bug fix updates.

One thing I do like about it is the fingerprint scanner. It is nice to just swipe my finger to turn the unit on. I can swipe and go and come back in 10 minutes when it's finished booting (literally). If the new rMBP has that feature, everybody will love it.

But I miss having a laptop I want to use. So I was excited several months ago when I decided to buy an Apple laptop. I was almost ready to buy an Air when they went to Haswell but because I do so much photo and video stuff I decided I needed a Retina screen.

So I am waiting like the rest of you and chomping at the bit.

Apple is so different from MS. MS rushes crappy stuff out and everybody dreads the updates and puts off upgrading as long as they can. Apple takes their time and gets everyone in a frenzy. My second Apple purchase after my Ipod was two shares of Apple stock.

The problem with buying a haswell rMBP this month...is going to be how frustrating it will be when they announce the IGZO MBPs. My iPad 1 is basically useless now and my Ipad 3 is getting more and more obsolete with each new iPad.

It's easier on the wallet in the PC world to upgrade sooner because you can build your own systems with the new technology almost as soon as it comes out.

I just bought a Seagate external 4tb hard drive that claims to offer both Mac and PC accessibility. It is all filled now with music, videos, and photos waiting to be used on the new rMBP.

Can anybody recommend a thread or forum filled with people who switched from PCs to Macs? Any tips or websites I should know about that will help me prepare?

Thanks for reading all this!

Apple is so different from MS.

Apple produces software and hardware, MS doesn't produce the laptops, they produce the OS. Frankly I'm buying a rMBP for the aesthetics and build quality, and installing windows right away, as I cannot stand any apple OS. Also your T43 is 8 years old, it's supposed to be buggy and chug like a fratboy with a drinking problem.

Haha, dumping the brand new rMBP's in favor of Air's :p such nonsense.
I don't even know were to start...

Just for fun, to keep this topic interesting, a little speculation about the next Macbook:

I think Apple might ditch the Airs and rMBP's in about a few years. Maybe in 2015 or 2016 we could see Apple returning to only 1 Macbook :).
No Airs, no Pro's, no Retina's, just 1 notebook (-design) offered in 11", 13", 15" (and maybe 17"??) and different hardware configurations to be able to offer slower/cheap ones and powerful/expensive ones.

We're in a different time now (or WILL BE), so we need to think different too.

  • Pro's were invented alongside the plastic Macbook because Apple got it's hands on those fancy (and much more powerfull) Intel processors. The plastic Macbooks weren't build to house top-of-the-line Intels while Apple's new love for aluminum was too expensive for the cheap Macbooks. Therefore a pricier, but cutting-edge notebook was born alongside the Macbook: the Macbook Pro.
  • Airs were invented alongside the Pro's (or replaced the plastic Macbooks) because the thin design could only be offered on (slower) power-efficiënt machines while the Pro still offered the ports, optical drive and power.
  • Retina's were invented alongside the Airs (or are replacing the Pro's) because the Retina-display is so expensive it could only be offered on expensive Macbooks. Therefore the Macbook Pro got it alongside a new design to house enough battery and powerful hardware which weren't possible in an Air

But what's the excuse now? Almost every reason of Air's existence has been caught up by the (retina) Pro (thin design, ditched drive and ports). The difference between the 2 notebooks has become small and now that people are asking for retina displays in Air's (which we might see eventually) the difference will be too small for people to known which machine they want. Even the (perceivable) difference in power, and the demand of more power, was never as small/low as now, thanks to the ever-fast SSD's. Sum it up with increasingly more efficient CPU's and the Air could be equipped with as much power as a Pro, The size/design won't be bottleneck anymore. A 13" Retina Air vs. a 13" Retina Pro... a tougher choice between the "cheap" and "Pro" Macbook than it ever was.

Therefore there won't be a reason anymore to keep offering 2 different machines. 1 machine offered in all sizes and hardware configurations to satisfy those who demand power and those who don't want to spend as much. It's a more unified Mac-line, cleaner Mac-line and a simpler or more accessible choice for future customers. It'll be an icon (with a new catchy name of course, "Mac" has been ditched out of "Mac OS X" already...), like the cMBP was and therefore strong in a market were competitors are closing in to Apple.

^THAT, or Apple finds something new (Carbon-fiber?) people are willing to pay for and is too expensive to use in the cheaper Macbook.
