The System76 Galago UltraPro is shipping. Think it's a Clevo.
It seems to be shipping in very small numbers using engineering samples of the Haswell CPU i.e. a pre-production stepping. System76 claim that they have the only laptop shipping with Iris Pro, which is very fishy.

As I understand it, because USB 2.0 can already handle the throughput to an external disk or a printer.

Moreover, because the USB 2.0 port is not a real-world bottleneck (the upstream data movement is limited enough at least 99.9% of the time) it would not have made sense to add the additional cost of USB 3.0 components to the design for no net benefit.
I disagree. I would like to hang a RAID array off an Airport Extreme, so I want Thunderbolt or at least USB 3.

That's my plan. A RAID or SSD is the only reason I'd want USB 3 and/or Thunderbolt. Even then, if it's small incremental backups (vice frequently accessed storage) I don't need blazing speed. Then again, I might put my media library on it... :)

My hope is that Apple doesn't do a minor Haswell CPU update and dump the GPU. There are too many other great notebooks that easily compete or exceed the MBPr specs now. I would probably jump ship...

-P

Be careful about what you would be jumping ship into.....

There be monsters in them waters.......

I think I should just order one for now and return it if there's an announcement on the 22nd, and give up if not. :p

Sorry, no MBP's in October. According to an inside source, I've heard that MBP will not be released in October. The October 22nd event will showcase new iPads, Mac Pro, and Mavericks. From what I understand, they want people talking about (and buying) the Mac Pro and iPads. The MBP will be released around Black Friday in November.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Still maintaining my post. Just trying to let people down easy. Seems to be a combination of supply issues and marketing the Mac Pro.

Unless your inside source is Cook or one of a select few people who are high up on the chain of command at Apple, there's no way they know anything for sure.

Would an 15" rMBP with Iris Pro perform worse than the current ones? Seeing the 21" iMac with Iris Pro scoring about 10k in Geekbench, and the base rMBP 15" scoring 13k? Or is it the 5400RPM HDD in the iMac that is the reason to these lower scores?

What makes you think it would be slower? Look at the MBAs. Small performance increase even at lower clock speeds.

The benchmarks you linked to are the i5 iMac and i7 MBP. The Haswell i5s are still going to be slower than Ivy i7s.

That is where most external monitors fall short. My cameras shoot in both 2.5k (2432 x 1366) and 4k (4096 x 2160) footage. Most TVs only display 1080p (1920x1080) presenting a scaling issue, in addition, the color reproduction is different from what I would actually be seeing from my Mac, there is also the matter of refresh rate, potential latency issues. It's way easier and streamlined having everything work harmoniously together in one (aka iMac 2560x1440) I never buy things full out retail my last iMac I bought for $1300 when it was MSRP for $1999.

Fixed it for you.

:D

But can you blame him? Isn't there a part of you that wants to see everyone on this thread LOSE THEIR MINDS when new laptops don't get announced on the 22nd?

I would totally flip if its not released on the 22nd.
But yes :)
I would really love the aftermath :D
Seeing people going trough the "7 stages of grief" every time we have a "possible" date for the rMBP release have been kinda fun.
This is actually the first date i actually believe it will be released tho.

I am going to LOL if that happens. If it is released, then great.

What a troll

Or are you...?

I think we will have IGZO because of the wait. Other companies are releasing products with them. Apple probably got first dibs and have been producing a bunch. The lack of rumors does not scare me because it seems rumors tend to be way more popular about the mobile devices.

Apple wants a top of the line pro book with features other companies don't have. Now that super HD screens are becoming rampant apple will make sure the macbook pros stand out among the laptop market. They will do this with their machine having the best battery life using haswell, IGZO, and mavericks.

IGZO, TB2, whatever. . . the "killer feature" I really want is for the STUPID THING TO BE RELEASED NOW.

According to mactracker, the haswell is slightly slower. 5946 vs 6105 ivy bridge

Wasn't there talk of the delay due to getting enough displays? My logic would be if they use the same displays as the the current retina they would just change the production line over. I don't believe there any low numbers of current retinas. So the lack of displays may mean new technology ... ir IGZO?

What a troll

I'm sure you said that to naysayers in July, then August, then the weekly re-fresh rumors every Tuesday in September, and finally those that squash the October 15th silent refresh. Just because you want something doesn’t mean you’ll be obliged.

And yes, I love to see the fanboy tears when it's not released but what I heard was stated to be true nonetheless.

The 5 stages of loss: 1. denial and isolation, 2. anger, 3. bargaining, 4. depression, and finally 5. acceptance. I'm at acceptance...guess where you're at. FYI, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering...

When you claim to have "insider info" with no proof, you're a troll
You're at denial into anger

I am going to LOL if that happens. If it is released, then great.

Congrats, you're at acceptance.

This step to step thing makes me cringe at night, seems that you have been through alot during your years

The Time Capsule will give you slightly better speeds (especially with ac wifi). Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks. I will probably get one because it'll be easier lol. Is it possible to use the Time Capsule as external storage + back up? Also can it be accessed worldwide over the Internet?

Sorry for all the questions. I haven't found much help on Google.
