I disagree. a) other companies announce ahead of time and they seem to do ok and b) a lot of people look would at what's coming and say it's not worth the wait and buy now. Besides, as you said " The vast majority of the population buys when they need something" so they wouldn't even bother to research what is coming.

a. Apple isn't like other companies

b. Nobody outside MR knows what the flip Haswell is.

They don't have to research if you're obviously announcing/advertising it.

Damn straight it ain't. It will choose to milk the last dollar from last year's models until the last day instead of making some concessions for the consumer. Not to sound too accusatory though, since resellers do offer good discounts towards the end of the cycle.

The whole Osborne effect argument is pretty weak, especially considering ...

Yep, they would rather be blissfully ignorant of what they just missed out on.

It is certainly working well for Apple as we can see from the cash registers. Just the minority pro users get the frustrating bits.

All I know is the minority of power users/geeks/engineers whathaveyou are usually more influential than their sheer numbers will suggest.

Piss off enough pros, you know what they're gonna tell their relatives the next time they come asking for tech advice?

Disclaimer: I've sunk to the level of liberal usage of generalizations and factless opinion given the spirit of the discussion. :D

The whole point of my post was blaming Apple for making us (companies with tight budget or freelancers) having a ****** time and possibly wasting huge amount of money,

So let me get this straight. You want Apple, a multibillion dollar company, to run their business so that companies with tight budgets (because most companies roll up their budget and smoke it), and freelancers (clearly the target of profit-driving strategies at Apple's board meetings), won't have to make decisions that possibly waste huge amounts money?

Excellent.

Yeah because you know, those other big companies like Samsung, Asus, Google, Dell, are just fake companies, that's all. It's *that* simple !
That's why they do those totally random, weird thing, like giving release date, full specs etc, and make no money at all.

Slow clap.

If it wasn't for the OS, I' would have left this circus a long time ago...

Low expectations aren't bad. You should be pleasantly surprised next week ;)

Do you know how many people since May have written something similar?

Let me fix that for you:

Low expectations aren't bad. We hope to be pleasantly surprised next week ;)

No charge,

Yeah actually, in the product sub-category, freelancers are quite important. They are the evangelist army convincing bigger companies to move to Apple. There is one lesson Tim Crook has forgot: Do not piss off the developers.

b. Nobody outside MR knows what the flip Haswell is.

Seriously? Haswell isn't an Apple thing, why would only MR people know about it. A LOT of people know about Haswell, even the non-techies. A lot was made of the power savings in general when it was announced.

They aren't 1080p because of the screen size. At 4", the current resolution produces a "retina" like screen. You can't see any pixels anymore at 640 x 1136 on a 4" screen. And to be honest, raising the PPI any higher at this point only reduces the battery life and gives a very tiny improvement in sharpness. The difference between my 720p Galaxy S3 (300+ ppi) and 1080p HTC One (460+ ppi) was very small (sharpness wise). So it's not weird the iPhone doesn't have a 1080p 4" screen, it's actually a smart choice.

But I agree with you that Apple probably isn't going to change the resolution of the rMBP. Like on the iPhone, they achieved "retina" sharpness (you can't see pixels anymore) so they probably have the same vision as with their iPhone's: increasing the resolution any further at this screen size is only a waste of battery life.

yeah..300 ppi is a printed page. Any higher is a waste.

yeah..300 ppi is a printed page. Any higher is a waste.

Depends on what you are printing. I work at a company that does a crapload of printing and anything with images (i.e. not text) is generally printed at 600ppi...actually dpi for print.

At this point I really don't care about rumors. I need a new laptop and as a geek I won't buy a year old laptop. I'm sure I can do without a rMBP. So have fun waiting :) I'll buy the new dell XPS15 or the new rMBP depending on which one is first released !

Yikes! Not so fast. One more day until a sparsely worded invitation is released (we hope), No product announcements. Can't nip anything until the presentation on the 22nd (we hope).

Lol I was only poking fun at the "one more day" post I quoted. I know it's (possibly) one day until the invites and another week until the announcement.

I just saw a very interesting matte monitor from Dell, the "UltraSharp U2312HM 23" IPS LED LCD Monitor". For just 200€ plus an MBA (i7, 8gb) I come up with the same cost as a rMBP alone (that is the limit of what I can afford).

Is there someone who know something on those dell IPS ultrasharp monitor?

What ? How ?
The whole point of my post was blaming Apple for making us (companies with tight budget or freelancers) having a ****** time and possibly wasting huge amount of money,

Makes sense how? Curious as to your thought process on that. It makes sense in that it's SOP for Apple but that's all I've got.

Why would Apple want to publicly tell consumers and retailers that what they buy today will soon be old stock?

If Apple sold a gazillion laptops for every segment of the market like Dell who tries to be all things to all people, I could see them doing this but Apple's target market is much smaller.

It's really that simple.

boys we don't need any rumors..new MBPs will come out on 22. for sure.

remember what cook did say one year ago? Yes, the best selling mac is the..you get it?

New MBPs are coming definitly with Mavericks!

Btw. relating to the leaked 15 rMBP geekbenchscore..why were they so confident that it was a MBP and not the new top mac mini?

Why would Apple want to publicly tell consumers and retailers that what they buy today will soon be old stock?
I feel like we've done this before :D Because, as we've both said, a lot of people don't care and will buy what's available when they need it.

Do you make money off of Apple? Does any of that money go back to Apple? (is this stock trading?) You found a means of employment riding the coat tails of Apple and are complaining? Sounds like you need to diversify.

I can see all the tension and stress going on here for the delayed release and some people are going nuts. Time for some reality check:

1. Apple doesn't HAVE to release the rMBP within their pattern time. They can do whatever the heck they want and as they please even if you feel they are doing business wrong.

2. Apple can careless if you buy a dell or any other laptop.

3. MacRumors doesn't owe you anything. They are just another apple blog. They post rumors from their sources and other blogs.

One day more!
One day more of speculation!
We will nip it in the bud!
We'll be ready for these laptops!
They will light themselves with IGZO!

lol couldn't resist :D

One more day of speculation
Will we ever get a refresh
One day of uncertainty
We want new rmbp now

Les Miserables fan I see :)

They've been in mass production since May, so there is a chance.

In the words of Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber:

Lloyd: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?
Mary: Well, Lloyd, that's difficult to say. I mean, we don't really...
Lloyd: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.
[pause]
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*

Can't wait for tomorrow. I'm pretty sure about the event happening, so finally reading about the invites going out will be fun. Hope the invites give an indication of something related to the rMBP.

Either way, soon everything will be over. Either it's coming in October or in 2014, can't see it coming in November. If they wait beyond October they are surely waiting for something in 2014, or else it just doesn't make sense anymore.
