In the words of Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber:

Lloyd: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?
Mary: Well, Lloyd, that's difficult to say. I mean, we don't really...
Lloyd: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.
[pause]
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*

How long does it take for them to be in production to have enough? I would think that's enough time but I really have no experience.

I'll go for 13". After all, I want a portable device, not a big, hot and heavy brick.

Wouldn't buy anything but the "15. It's not heavy, really not that much hotter certainly not a brick. What it is is a more powerful machine with real estate that I've grown accustomed to over the years and it accommodates 16 gigs of Ram. It's Quad Core and hopefully, almost assuredly dGPU. Just a better machine

Are the majority of people on here going for the 15" model?

I've only read a few 13" comments.

I'm getting the 13" because I'm used to that size already (and can hopefully keep using the sleeve I have), and I also don't need the specs of the 15". Dual cores and 8gb of ram are just fine for me.

13" rMBP i5 8gb ram 256gb SSD.

Yeah because you know, those other big companies like Samsung, Asus, Google, Dell, are just fake companies, that's all. It's *that* simple !

If it wasn't for the OS, I' would have left this circus a long time ago...

Ah yes, those other big companies.. just like Apple. [insert gigantic wink here]

The 15" is still heavier than 13" and it certainly gets hotter (e.g. during rendering). But if you're on the go, like in a plane or train, the 15" is just too big to carry around. When I travel, I prefer to travel light, no big heavy bags or laptop rucksack

the same price as a 15" macbook pro :D

With the introduction of the infamous Thunderbolt2 port in the new MacBook Pro at the beginning of 2014, Apple will also have to release a new 4K TBD, which will probably be as expensive as 2014 15" rMBP base model.

At that point it would be more cost-effective to buy the upcoming black trash can Mac Pro among with 3rd party monitors instead. :(

considering the 15" rmbp weighs the same as the 13" cmbp i don't think that you can say the 15" rmbp is 'just to big to carry around' anymore, especially if you feel the extra power/screensize is worth it or if you are truly minimalistic and have a bag like this

Should I wait for the rMBP 13? Will it be any different from 2012's or whatever the last update was?

I mean right now it's either that (if it has any better specs, which.. looking at the leaks I don't see many besides Haswell) or a completely maxed out Macbook Air 13.

I'm not doing anything intensive. It's really just about what will be faster or better. Portability isn't really an issue either, though they would probably both be extremely light.

I keep passing up great deals on 2012 Macbook Pro's, in hopes that the Haswell will be announced next week. If it isn't announced...

But they are big companies. He's not saying how big they are compared to Apple. Just that they are, in fact, big companies. Google and Samsung definitely aren't companies to scoff at when they are referred to as big companies, even in comparison to Apple.

I'd wait. The graphics on the 13" rMBP will be much better. Imo the Intel 4000 is extremely outdated

This is, assuming you care enough about retina to get the rMBP over the MBA.

*You are correct in assuming for the 15" that there is not much change in performance. However for the 13" you get a pretty hardy bump in graphics in addition to Haswell cpu (minor bump)*

If you don't need it immediately, I would wait until after the event next Tuesday and see. Both machines would be great, however, so you're not losing out by going with the Air.

Not necessarily. A few of the more reliable sources have said that the event will most likely be happening, so just hang on for about 12 more hours.

And as many have said, an event doesn't necessarily mean new MBPs, but we're all hoping that they make an appearance.

BREATHE!
