That's the same model I'm planning on getting.

For that second part, what exactly is wrong with your 2009 MB? If it's something major, then it might not be worth it to repair it.

The major issue is that it often won't wake from sleep without a hard restart which burns through SATA cables very fast. I haven't used it for almost a month because it was getting the flashing folder the next day after I would get it back from the Genius Bar.

The other less pressing issue is that I started getting the "Service Battery" warning maybe two months ago, so it's due for a battery replacement of I plan to keep using it.

The display, keyboard, trackpad, and SuperDrive all seem to be in good working order.

I think there are quite a few with thin skin.

This is week is obviously going be tough for some people in this thread (like me). The announcements are out and now we won't know anything else for sure until next week. Since a watched pot never boils...and an anticipated Haswell rMBP doesn't arrive until after it has shipped..this week might be stressful for some.

As I mentioned before, I've been using computers since my first Kaypro back in 1983 or so and have never used an Apple computer before. So in a sense, I've been waiting since 1983 for my first MBP. I've been comparing my first Kaypro computer with the 15" maxed out rMBP I am planning on buying after next Tuesday.

Here's a photo....
kayproii.jpg

Notice that the Kaypro has the word Pro in it. It was also portable. Also..the price is interesting. And WOW! 64K ram.

Kaypro's ran the CPM operating system, had a tiny 9" screen and ran CP/M from the top Floppy disc.

Released: 1982
Price: US $1595.
Weight: 26 lbs
CPU: Zilog Z80, 2.5 MHz
RAM: 64K
Display: 9" green phosphor screen.
24 X 80 text only
Ports: Serial port
Parallel port
Storage: Two internal 5-1/4"
SS-DD 195K drives
OS: CP/M, SBASIC

The company was VERY different from Apple. They lost most of their inventory through stupidity and never fully recovered. Here's the story, for your amusement while we are waiting (Apple would NEVER do this!)::

From the New York Times: September 13, 1984

The Kaypro Corporation said yesterday that it is investigating the possibility that millions of dollars in computer parts are missing from a circus tent and big trucks where Kaypro stored them.

As accountants sought to determine if the loss was a bookkeeping error, speculation mounted that many parts had been stolen.

Kaypro, based in Solana Beach, Calif., outside San Diego, is the maker of the Kaypro II - a $1,295 portable personal computer that last year was one of the nation's top-selling machines. The Kaypro II has been so successful, in fact, that Kaypro was forced to stockpile parts for it and other models in trucks, in bags strewn on its lawn and under a giant, billowing circus tent on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Security, Accounting Called Lax

But security and accounting for the parts has been lax, people close to Kaypro say. Now, according to an analyst who asked not to be identified, a preliminary review of inventory by Kaypro's auditors, Peat Marwick, is indicating huge shortfalls of chips, screens, disk drives, circuit boards and other components for Kaypro computers.

Although the accountants' work is not finished, reports circulating in the computer industry suggested that Kaypro's loss could approach $6 million. As of June 30, Kaypro's inventory totaled about $60 million, according to the company.

The Peat Marwick partner in charge of the case would not answer calls.

''Nobody knows how much the loss is because Kaypro's accounting is so bad,'' said Kenneth T. Lim, an industry analyst at Dataquest, a San Jose, Calif., market researcher.

Some companies had it...and others didn't! Now...only 7 days to go......

Not taking sides but keep in mind that not everyone here speaks/writes English as their primary language. :)
Absolutely, but respect and civility exist in all languages. How can you expect a comment to carry any validity when the person making it clearly lacking.

I would like to see you writing in Spanish....

For sure i write better in english than you in spanish so shut up B!

Spanish, German, English, or Farsi: if you're going to make a comment challenging someone's intelligence, make sure yours is irrefutable.

/back to our regularly scheduled waiting game.

Just a troll xD

i would like admin ban sarakn ....really...

she doenst added anything usefull to the thread

Backseat moderating isn't very useful either

Besides, this thread doesn't have any use other than soaking up posts by restless macbook pro buyers and keeping them all in the same place

OMG... I love this site. How funny/pathetic are we, AM I? 9 months waiting for a laptop so I can DO WORK and waste my time watching Youtube videos. My word, I could have had a baby in that time...A HUMAN BABY :)

Even if it's released on the 24th, I'll wait another week until my BTO is shipped, spend my entire weekend converting to Mac from PC, drink like crazy when frustrated because I've never used mac before, give my dell the side-eye and loving nudge, and if all else fails, pack my dell as I leave town for the week with the MBP on my bed.

... all this at a cost of $3,500.

You know those guys at Apple are laughing at us.

Even worse, you know Jobs is farting in his grave at the minions he left behind.

F my life. :D

You're going to find moving from PC to Mac incredibly easy.

I've watched enough Youtube videos and it seems fairly simple - even down to transferring files over.

I was thinking of bootcamp for windows, but I think parallels will fit the bill. I'm going to max out the ram and get maybe 2.7 or 2.8 processor, so I shouldn't have any issues with poor performance.

I'm an IT consultant so I need to get up to speed quickly. Won't it be funny if I'm showing my client how we're developing their multimillion dollar system, yet I can't copy & paste.

Can you recommend any particularly good how to videos?

I had one of those CP/M beasts. To this day my right arm is still one inch longer than the left.

Wish I still had all my PC/Mac gizmos from those days.

Ahhh!! Best news ever!! Can't wait to give boyfriend back his stupid Lenovo and get back to work now that the semester is halfway over lol. Bring me my late-2013 13" rMBP i5 8gb ram 256gb SSD!!

The question will be if I get rid of my mid-2009 or if I hang onto it for a little longer and possibly repair it. What are you guys doing with your old machines? I can't exactly hand mine down except for parts unless I invest in some repairs first.

I have the mid 2009 15" as well. 2.53. It really has a beautiful display. Much sharper and more defined than the current cMBP. Lat I checked with Apple it was worth $700 as a trade in. That was a year ago. I'm sure I won't get anywhere near that, but if I can get $300 from them it would pay for the 512 SSD that I am getting

Oooooh, now it's a stupid lenovo. Let the snobbery begin. :D I hear you! Back in February when I thought I was getting a new mac in a couple weeks, I went all 'eff this Dell' and pulled the metal frame that borders the laptop. Bad move! I need rubber cement and 2 butterfly clips to keep the wire frame down and it's been that way since February. Check out my profile pic.

To be fair, this is still a good laptop except when it misbehaves on youtube. It's a dell xps 2.8Ghx proc and 8GB ram. The main problem is battery and cosmetic which can be repaired for under $50. I'll repair it and leave it at home as a backup laptop.

So true...I think I'll be in withdrawal. My rMBP laying there idle while I still work on my old laptop.

I'm sure we will all be migrating to the "I just got my Haswell...How do you do this/Why is that not working" thread

The wait for broadwell just got longer.

Intel delays Broadwell PC processor by a quarter to Q1

The chip giant reveals the delay of its 14-nanometer chip during its earnings call but hasn't yet said what's causing the delays.

Intel has been promoting new thin-and-light PCs to boost the market.
Intel on Tuesday said its upcoming PC chip, dubbed Broadwell, will be delayed by a quarter.

CEO Brian Krzanich, speaking during a call discussing the company's third-quarter earnings, said Intel will begin production on Broadwell in the first quarter of 2014 rather than later this year. The chip is the first manufactured at 14 nanometers, or billionths of a meter.

"Broadwell, our first product at 14 nanometers, is up and running, as we demonstrated at the Intel Developer Forum," Krzanich said. "While we're comfortable where we're at with yields, from a timing standpoint, we're about a quarter behind schedule."

Thank you!

You're welcome.

What accesories/software are you guys going to get.

I had a wishlist, but now I've pared it down to a make sense list.

Must Haves/Possibles:
Parallels software.
Time Capsule/Machine - is this really worth $400 for 3TB when Seagate has one.

Apps, apps, and more apps.

Passes(for now):
Thunderbolt display - wanted it, but decided against it. That will just keep me tied to my home office and I have a barely used Dell in there. I can count how many times I've used that machine in the past year. :(

Magic Mouse/Track Pad: Will pass for now. This implies being at a desk. I have a nice logitech mouse and will stick with it, if I can.
