Which one of us has never accidentally put their phone in the same pocket as their keys???
I've never put my phone and keys in the same pocket. Keys always go in a left pocket. Phone always goes in a right pocket. No problems -- ever.

so guys, can we expect 4K rMBP 17" as the rumour said? Do you think Apple could bring it back?
It's possible but I'm not expecting it. If I were Apple, I would release a 17" rMBP in February and go upmarket from the 15" model by making 16GB standard and 32GB optional and by having two PCIe SSD slots, as well as more ports.

Only sell for me would be a 13 inch rMBP with:

i5-4258U (Iris 5100)
8GB RAM
256GB PCIe SSD
802.11ac
TB2
Facetime 1080p
<= $1499
Thunderbolt 2 is doubtful, but otherwise I think you have a good chance. Apple might either keep the base price at $1499 and increase base SSD capacity to 256GB or, I think more likely, lower the base price for the 128GB model enough that the 256GB BTO option raises the price to $1499.

My 2006 black MacBook (Core Duo) has been dead for almost a year now. It's just the HD, and I could replace it easily if I could find my OS install disks (or shell out for another copy), but the screen backlight has had some reliability issues, and it hasn't really been too bad being without a computer... I've been doing all my browsing and such on my iPhone or iPad, or at work.

But I'm at the point that I need a working computer again to be able to do light photo and video editing.

I'm really hoping to see an updated 13" rMBP with Iris graphics (5100) and a build to order option for 16 GB of RAM.

I'm expecting to see the updated 802.11ac Wifi & a PCIe SSD. I'm less sure about Iris and the 16 GB of RAM options being available, but I'm hopeful for both.

I would love to see, but don't expect:
  • Quad core processor with Iris Pro (5200) as an option (seems highly unlikely due to the power requirements).
  • A higher resolution screen (2880 x 1800). This would be nice so that the "native" resolution of the 13" rMBP matched the 13" MBA. Again, would love to see it, but it seems unlikely.
  • TB2. I don't have much need, but would be nice for future-proofing.
  • IGZO. This seems supremely unlikely, but would be awesome if it happened.
  • 256 MB SSD as the default configuration. I want to upgrade to the 512, it would be great if it started with the 256. It's a sure bet that it'll be available as an option at least.

I really like the form factor of the 13", the 15" seems too big for what I need. But I might get pushed in that direction depending on the iGPU and max RAM available on the 13".

My turn:

15" rMBP
i7 (processor speed is not terribly important; they'll all be within a few .1's of a GHz)
1TB PCIe SSD
16GB RAM
802.11ac
IGZO (current resolution or better)
Thunderbolt 2
USB 3

All possible. Aside from IGZO and TB2 all are probable. If this is what Apple releases (or even announces) next week it will be worth the wait :D

-Faster SSD's (like the Air has)
-Thunderbolt 2
-802.11ac

...are the most obvious improvements we can expect. I don't think we need to argue about it anymore. The Air has these SSD's and 802.11ac already, while the Mac Pro has Thunderbolt2 and will be released at the same time (Why would they give it to the Mac Pro and not the Macbook Pro?)

mneblett also mentioned USB3, but even the current rMBP has it, no doubt it'll be present in the new rMBP.

Oh, and most importantly: I think we can expect Haswell CPU's in the new rMBP's as well :D

Thanks for the info. I'm limping along on a SATA 1, USB2 '08 -- didn't know the current machines had that new-fangled USB 3 stuff :D

I know it's a result of my addled brain reaching new states of agony over months and months of waiting, but the fact is that this joke ceased being amusing sometime in late August.

Hahaha - isn't it funny what has happened to us over the past few months. Some people choose to believe good things will happen on Tuesday; I tell myself it will not so the blow is not that severe. Who are we kidding - if it does not happen on Tuesday, I won't be pleased.

Damned rumors.

Yeah if there's nothing next week screw it, I'm buying the current model and just selling it before the new one actually comes out. Need a laptop for uni and need it now

if no macbook pro gets released next week im replacing my macbook pro with macbook air i have 2011 model so i need a update really bad!

I think this has been mentioned previously relating to replacing laptops that are 2009 or newer. But isn't a 2011 model relatively new? All the laptops I ever had tend to last at least 4+ years and even then I only replace them as more of a luxury than a necessity.

http://vr-zone.com/articles/intel-confirms-broadwell-delay-earnings-call/60594.html

Now Broadwell in 2014 should be a but a nostalgia for some of you. It looks like it has slipped a quarter on the production side.

if I remember correctly intel started production of haswell 2 months earlier than that, I think a late q3 is expected

Im guessing they are aiming to slow down a bit the launches

gpu makers have gone for 2 year cycle now and with the 20nm fiasco it looks like nvidia is in for major rebrands as well with the gk110 dual cores

Take your pessimism somewhere else. I choose to remain optimistic.

People seriously need to calm down - if someone says new rMBPs are not out next week, who cares? Enough with the name-calling!

Just as some people are called trolls because they choose to express their doubts about unfounded rumors, the believers can be called gullible suckers for believing the same unfounded rumors.

Most people here don't mean to offend or harm. Most have been waiting just as long or even longer as others. If the new macs are announced/released next week, then we will celebrate in a week. If not, we will choose another random date to wait for.

I hope the macs get released next week so my 10 month wait is over, but some people here act as if anyone who does not choose to drink the koolaid should be shot. It's a damn machine!

The broadwell delay is absolutely not a good news.

It means that, sooner or later before broadwell release, the traditional 8 months cycle (oct - jun - feb - oct) should be broken and, at least once, we will observe a 12 months cycle.

Let's hope this is not the case (I think it's very unlikely that Apple will decide to wait now. Much better to postpone a small spec-bump instead of a major upgrade).

Looking at today's headline:

New iPhones Score Well with 'Consumer Reports', but Display and Battery 'No Match' for Android Competitors

I hope we never see:

New Retina Macbook Pros Score Well with 'Consumer Reports', but Display and Battery 'No Match' for PC Competitors

No IGZO display+Battery life not as good as Dell XPS 15.

Guess the post count... How many posts do you think this thread will reach by Tuesday?

Tuesday, 12:00AM and
Tuesday - Start of conference.

We're at 12,250 right now and I think we might get to 13,000 by Tuesday AM - yup - 750 posts in 6 days. But it's going to be crazy between midnight and start of conference. I expect another 100-150.

All in all, 14,000 is doubtful.

Come on lads and lasses, place your bets! I'm going to guess that we get to 523 pages and 13004 posts. Just for fun. It might not be mathematically accurate, but who cares? :p

you probably will see that because consumer reports hates apple products
