troll: A member of an internet forum who continually harangues and harasses others. Someone with nothing worthwhile to add to a certain conversation, but rather continually threadjacks or changes the subject, as well as thinks every member of the forum is talking about them and only them. Trolls often go by multiple names to circumvent getting banned.

one simple comment refuting a bad rumor was twisted into a pessimistic comment about the potential release date.

That said, the event has been announced. Can we wait until after it to decide if it's coming this year or next? Tensions are high, and the idiotic "it's not coming until 2014!!!!!!!!" needs to stop. We won't know anything until next week.

Does the definition of a troll really matter? Just as some choose to believe rumors, some choose to disbelieve. No need for name calling because another person does not agree - in that sense, they're both trolls.

Anyway, let's not turn this into another debate.

Someone should create a mac wishlist.

Not sure if this is the appropriate thread. But for those switching from PC to Mac or just Excel users in general. Is it better to run Office 13 off parallels or use Office 11 and wait for Office 2014? Because you know, we all love waiting for something that may or may not come out when we expect them to. :)

Nobody knows what you mean by "better". It's a relative term unique to each individual.

Excel files in Office 13 are compatible with those in Office 2011 for the mac. I interchange them every day. That said, Office for the mac is nowhere as complete a suite of apps as the PC equivalent. (This is by design I'm sure).

I'm a heavy Excel user, and I intend to use parallels.

New Iwork - opinions

By the way... What do you think it can look like the new Iwork?

I don't use Word for complex works (I use other programs for that).

I absolutely need Excel.

Keynote is better than PP.

So I was thinking at using IWork and installing only Excel (or Excel and Word) with VMware.

Don't get complicated, Microsoft excel for Mac it's the same as for windows (well, but better :D ), and you will be still able to share your excel files with windows users without any problem!

And totally! Keynote it's way much better than PP :D

Must be why the Swiss tried to ban it.

Hello everyone! I was lurking during the last months and as you I'm waiting for this f*ipping laptop since June.

You probably don't care but I'm in the market for the 13". My hopes are the following:
1) A retina display providing the same real estate of the MBA: 1440x900 instead of 1280x800. I suspect the current resolution was a compromise and Haswell should allow it
2) A better graphic card. I heard the current model could be a bit sluggish.
3) Given all this "delay" I hope for at least a small redesign: Nothing mindblowing, I hope they reduce the height to at least match the 15" model. It could also mean a slight weight reduction :)
4) No screen ghosting problems!

I'll love the speed of the new PCIe SSD. TB2? Maybe, but it's not really a deal-breaker for me. A Quad core option would be nice.

Hey, welcome. I'm after the 13-inch as well.

We won't get 1440x900 native on the 13-inch, but I think they definitely need to up that next year. Even the cMBP was 1280x800, but the MBA has always been 1440x1900.

5100 in the 13-inch will run just fine. It's mainly a software problem, and Mavericks have fixed the lagging.

It's good to be waiting for the 2nd-gen. Quad-core won't happen this year, that's next year most likely.

This is my detailed prevision for next tuesday rMBP

13" inch
BASE MODEL
CPU: Intel Core i5 4258U @2.4Ghz, TB 2.9Ghz. Upgradeable to Intel Core i7 4558U @2.8Ghz, TB 3.3Ghz
iGPU: Intel Iris
SSD: 128GB PCI-E
RAM: 8GB. Upgradeable to 16.

BETTER MODEL
CPU: Intel Core i5 4288U @2.6Ghz, TB 3.1Ghz. Upgradeable to Intel Core i7 4558U @2.8Ghz, TB 3.3Ghz
iGPU: Intel Iris
SSD: 256GB PCI-E. Upgradeable to 512GB or 1TB.
RAM: 8GB. Upgradeable to 16.

15" inch
BASE MODEL
CPU: Intel Core i5 4850HQ @2.3Ghz, TB 3.5Ghz. Upgradeable to Intel Core i7 4960HQ @2.6Ghz, TB 3.8Ghz or Intel Core i7 4900MQ @2.8Ghz, TB 3.8Ghz.
iGPU: Intel Iris Pro for 4850HQ and 4960HQ. Intel HD4600 for 4900MQ.
dGPU: Nvidia GTX 760M only available with Intel Core i7 4900MQ.
SSD: 256GB PCI-E
RAM: 8GB. Upgradeable to 16.

BETTER MODEL
CPU: Intel Core i7 4960HQ @2.6Ghz, TB 3.8Ghz. Upgradeable to Intel Core i7 4900MQ @2.8Ghz, TB 3.8Ghz.
iGPU: Intel Iris Pro for 4960HQ. Intel HD4600 for 4900MQ
dGPU: Nvidia GTX 760M only available with Intel Core i7 4900MQ.
SSD: 512GB PCI-E. Upgradeable to 1TB.
RAM: 16GB.

All models have the new wi-fi, IPS retina monitor with standard resolution and TB2. Price unchanged.

As you can see the 15" have a base CPU. Then it can be upgraded with two almost equivalent CPU, one with and one without dGPU. Since the discrete graphic will become optional, I think Apple will propose a serious graphic card hence I selected the GTX-760M.

I can't wait to see what the new version of iWork will bring. Keynote is better than PowerPoint and Pages could be a replacement for >95% of Word users. Right now Excel is significantly better than Numbers though. If Apple could only make Numbers more robust then I wouldn't ever have to use anything Microsoft ever again. That would make me very happy :D

Those are definitely the processors that are coming on the 13-inch. I honestly haven't paid much attention to what Haswell processors the 15-inch will have.

It remains a question mark of whether the 13 will get that 16GB RAM option. I think there is a better chance of that happening than the 13 getting a 256GB SSD as standard.

At this point, I'm going 13-inch/i7/256GB.

I'm planning on getting the new rMBP hopefully being released next week. My question is, I'd like to have a case ready for when it comes, so a current rMBP case "should" fit right? I'm thinking of getting a Joli originals sleeve for it but not sure if I should jump the gun or wait. :D

Yeah, it will. Last we've heard, the 13-inch will reduce in thickness from 0.75 to 0.71. But that's minimal, and the chasis on both sizes will otherwise remain the same.

yeah I'm not expecting it to be a huge redesign on the 15, which i'm planning on getting, but I thought i'd throw it out there anyways. thanks!

It's a pity because I really would like also the base and cheapest rMBP to have a CPU able to reach 3Ghz with turboboost.

It's still possibile that Apple decides to use the i5 4288U @2.6Ghz, TB 3.1Ghz for both 128Gb and 256Gb models, with the same upgrade (at the same cost) to the i7 processor but I don't think it's likely.

As for Iwork: can someone listen the missing feature of Excel for Mac in comparison with Excel for Win.

For example, is excel for Mac able to import and export csv files?

Well it won't be a redesign at all.

That's possible. Apple only decided to use 2 processors for the Haswell MBA. But yeah, I think it's more likely for Apple to use all 3 on the 13-inch rMBP.

Either way, I'm going i7. So I'm not really going to save any money if they just use one i5 processor.

Looks good except that the 15" models will have Iris Pro, not an nVidia 7xxM. There's simply no reason to use a discrete GPU in them, other than gaming, and the MacBook Pro is not a gaming computer.
