top shelf discreet gpu for 13 in, iMac-level gpu for 15 inch?

I know there were rumors that Apple was gonna get rid of a dedicated GPU because they told Intel to give them a chip with the best of the best, top shelf discreet graphics chip. But I'll bet they will use THAT for the 13 inch, and go even harder on the 15 inch model

something close to the mobile chips in the iMacs is possible. That 780m 4 gb would be pretty nice in a notebook. Not to mention ivy bridge is really power efficient so battery life wouldn't take to much of a hit (hopefully)

Looks good except that the 15" models will have Iris Pro, not an nVidia 7xxM. There's simply no reason to use a discrete GPU in them, other than gaming, and the MacBook Pro is not a gaming computer.

We will see in less than 6 days.

I think what they did for IMac is pretty clear. In my opinion (but both mine and yours are plausible) the Haswell and Broadwell generations are the transitions period where Apple will continue to offer dGPU only as custom ordered option.
With skylake (if Intel works well) we will get rid of dGPU.

780m is impossible in a laptop like the macbook. It runs way higher and has a TDP of over 100w, whereas the 750m is around 50w and 760m around 60.

Prepare to be disappointed.

Sound like a good deal... But... Keep in mind that sooner than later, you will have to attach pieces of the laptop whit glue and clips like few ones here with their windows based laptops ;)

By the way... What do you think it can look like the new Iwork?

I don't use Word for complex works (I use other programs for that).

I absolutely need Excel.

Keynote is better than PP.

So I was thinking at using IWork and installing only Excel (or Excel and Word) with VMware.

Me too.

I use Excel but Pages and Keynote.

Not sure if this is the appropriate thread. But for those switching from PC to Mac or just Excel users in general. Is it better to run Office 13 off parallels or use Office 11 and wait for Office 2014? Because you know, we all love waiting for something that may or may not come out when we expect them to. :)

I'll definitely run it through win 7 because on the mac version you don't get that beautiful formating preview when your cursor hovers over fonts or sizes. I use and need that quite often so the mac version does't cut it for me.

But that's just me.:D

My Macbook Pro no longer has little rubber feet, the hardware click buttons on the trackpad are stuck, and the laptop no longer sits flat on a table due to a big bump under the battery. Time takes it toll on any piece of hardware. I would wait for reviews before buying the Yoga, but it would be very tempting if it only had DisplayPort. I'm not willing to give up my 27" monitor. One good thing about Macbooks is that tech sites are obsessed with them, and they tend to rush out their reviews.

Having your phone in the same pocket as keys, is not being careful :)

...and i base this on absolutely nothing."

You cant really know what they will do.
Most likely it will go down in price on retailers, and it will more then likely see big price cuts the coming months, especially during the holidays.
If they are discontinuing the cMBP they will try to sell of the remaining stock. And a price cut during holidays is a great way to do it.

Yeah, it isn't. I stated in another reply that I'm not even sure that's what happened. The dent just appeared the week after I got it. I don't know how it happened as I haven't dropped it or anything else that comes to mind. So the only thing I can think of is maybe I had it in the same pocket as my keys. It happens. My point being that the 5 and 5s have a backside that is MUCH more vulnerable than the previous models. It was actually impossible to dent those models. You could scratch or break it, both of wich I have never done. But you couldn't dent it like a Coke can. There's my point, in a nutshell

Yea but if you managed to shatter the glass back of a 4 or 4s it would be much more damaged than a dented iPhone 5/5s

I need a laptop before nov. 10th. I am planning to order the 15" rMBP if it´s being announced next tuesday. Is it likely to take longer time to get the computer if I order with 16gb of ram instead of 8gb as in the base model?

It will take longer, but it certainly wouldn't take more than a week to get to you.

Im actually going to miss this thread after all is said and done with the rMBP-HASWELL!! Im sure we will eventually merge onto a new thread (besides waiting for broadwell, lol)!!

there simply IS a reason if you do 3D animation and need CUDA to render, not to mention the beefy card will help with the viewport too.. but hey, if creative professionals aren't their target market anymore maybe they should drop the "pro" in the title.

Oh 3D + CUDA, and PROfessionals? Oh, really?

need CUDA to render?

What kind of "PRO" 3D package does run on Mac OS and support CUDA?

Guess what, I'm a happy Luxology modo (PRO)user. Modo is probably the only serious "PRO" 3D application on Macs, but there is NO CUDA support.

The only half-successful GPU based 3rd party render engine (in the world) is the "Octane Render", but that's so special and niche that it's completely out of scope for Apple's "PRO" marketing.

---------
I'm so sick and tired of those "PRO" arguments! Clearly, the major target audience for mac books are rich college kids, who buy Mac Books not because they're "PRO" but because they expect "PRESTIGE" on their campus.

Then there is also still a market among the DTP and media professionals because of decade-long "IMAGE inertia" <-go figure :D

P.S. Adobe Creative Suite (PRO) also runs on "cheap" PCs (less ca$h).
