You can get the same machine for less through Apple refurbished:

http://store.apple.com/us/product/F...-23ghz-quad-core-intel-i7-with-retina-display

Or even less for this similar but slightly older model:

Those prices should also drop a bit as soon as new models are announced.

I haven't been on this thread for the past couple of days because my internet router/modem needed a new power cable:(. What have I missed?

Same stuff, really. Closer we get, the more excited I am. A couple different sources are citing a rMBP reveal on Tuesday, but I never had any doubts.

Thought so. Neither have I, but we should all still proceed with some caution, because you never know when it'll come out until the moment when Tim Cook announces it on stage.

My excitement level dipped in recent weeks, but it's definitely ramping up now that the end is in sight. In the meantime, I've managed to scrape together enough funds to buy a higher-end model if the specs are appealing enough, or otherwise I might go for a discounted early 2013 16GB/512GB 15" and treat myself to a new iPad mini with the savings...

Enjoy these last few hours of anticipation and prepare yourselves for retail therapy at its very finest, my friends! :D

why should i get refurbished one which almost 200$ less?

The 2012 refurb is $2189, which is largely the same computer as the early 2013 model. The only real potential drawback is receiving one with an image-retention-prone LG display, but you can always send it back if that's the case.

Or you can pay a bit less than $200 more to avoid the "display lottery" game altogether and just get the early-2013 refurb.

With those uses, I would suggest that the primary issue for you is not performance differences between the 13" and 15". For the tasks you list, the 13"/15" performance will be more similar than different.

Rather, it sounds like your first question should be whether you prefer the larger or smaller screen, followed by a second question of whether the somewhat better portability of the smaller machine matters to you.

Thanks a lot, then the choice is between both screen sizes... :)

Don't forget the average age of the other posters. How many do you think remember those?
My first PC came with a 2,5" drive and half a GB of memory.

My first computer was something called an SE. It was a little box with an handle and a 7" or 9" black and white screen. It had a 40 MB hard drive and 1 MB of Ram. I paid $65 for another half MB. And I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I had a dot matrix printer with that connected paper. And I had no internet, just this thing called Prodogy. Just before AOL Online

if the new one comes out on tuesday, when will a place like amazon get it? I have a bunch of gift cards for amazon that i'd like to use, and if not amazon would like to order from a place like bhphoto so no tax, saves about 120.

You could have been away from this thread for the last 7 months and not missed anything of importance.

Oh wow. Madam, you are still a pup. Try working with 4kb memory (Yes, that's Kilobytes).

And we had to build those machines ourselves. Using butter knives, ice tongs and toothpicks. Outside. Nekid. In the snow.

You're a funny guy, Bill. I came in about two days after you. The guy who sold me that SE was my partner. He had a Mac Plus. It had no HD. You had to insert a floppy, then insert the program disc you wanted to use, then reinsert the floppy then the program disc...Back and forth about 6 times before you could start working. Then when you wanted to save your work, the same process

1-12 weeks would be a safe bet. :D

Words of wisdom ;) My hopes are way too high for Tuesday. I'm going to have an out of body experience if the event goes by and there is no mention or release of the Haswell rMBP's

How much of a discount does Apple normally offer on Black Friday/Cyber Monday? And does this discount flow to the already discounted EPP stores (govt, education, etc)?

Basically, I'm wondering if I should wait a month to purchase or not. The EPP price for a rMBP is $200 cheaper already with identically configured systems.

Last year it was about $100 off, don't know if it stacked with other discounts:

You're better off looking outside of Apple retail for discounts.

LOL - No wonder people took drugs back then.

What're the chances of a reduced price for the 15" retina MacBook Pro?

no one knows, but the prices of SSDs are always going down, the screens are not as cutting edge as a year ago, so there's always a chance that it will go down. Also, if they don't update the classics, they will want to lower the price of the rMBPs to fill the gap between air and pro. I'm thinking there is a pretty good possibility, but what do i know?

Who is getting pumped?

I repeat:

Who. Is. Getting. Pumped?

[raises hand]
