A bit random, but related, question - do usually the new laptops hit the stores all over the major markets at the same time, or just first in the US and later on to europe / australia etc?

As with last year's waiting for iMac thread, I personally won't be sorry to see the back of this thread because it means we'll all be in a better place!

There was also that new GM build today. As a worst case scenario, if that had critical bug fixes for the new rMBPs, it could take a week or two to have that installed.

Any idea if there is still lag in Safari on Retina MBP? Has Apple optimized Safari for rMBP yet?

Same time, as far as I know. Australian availability is usually the morning of the day after, but then, the events are 4am in this time zone.

I haven't tried it myself, but from what I hear, it was fixed in the Developer Previews.

Windows 8.1 takes care of that

8.1 might mean that Microsoft fixed scaling as well as they can on their end. Many developers still need to fix the scaling in their programs. Some already handle it ok, some have a long way to go. I intend to mostly use these screens at native resolution anyway, but scaling should work in Apple's favour in the near future.

Looking at my 13" Macbook Pro I feel like the screen has a lot of wasted bezel. It would be a neat improvement if, for Broadwell, Apple kept the form factor of a 13" laptop, but cranked the screen size up to 14 inches. There seems to be less bezel on the 15" rMBP, so there might not be much to gain there.

For Australia the event is 4am Wednesday morning, I hope they have them available when the stores open around 8am on Wednesday morning. - i don't know the availability in the past (like the 2013 airs..) so if any one knows..

The Mavericks GM has been out for a while, so the rMBPs will probably come with it, but it wouldn't make sense to have them available on the same day unless they also immediately put Mavericks on the App Store. Since Lion and Mountain Lion came out on Wednesdays, it could quite well be at least Wednesday, maybe Thursday before the rMBPs are available, depending on the time that they put Mavericks up.

I can survive with Mountain Lion for a day if it means having my rMBP that much sooner!!!

I am 99,99% sure it will happen tomorrow. Does anyone know what time the event begins in Eastern European time zone (+2GTM)? I can't really check right now.

What will the MAVERICKS update bring?

IMO, some of the improvements in Mavericks are so badly needed in Mountain Lion that they should be released for free as bug fixes. I'm talking about retina display lag and multi-monitor full-screening. Still, I think Apple's strategy of yearly, cheap upgrades makes it hard to justify not upgrading. It's just a bit disappointing that they make us pay extra for such basic fixes.

Thank you. You sure it's 19? The iPhone event was at 20(I live in Bulgaria). Too bad I won't be able to watch it live(I am on German course) I will just check what had happened here. :)

I live in Denmark, and we're currently on winter time (GMT +2), so it is the same time where you are (currently 08:01am). :) And it's always 19PM :D Germany is same time zone as Denmark :)

Indeed it would be a silly discussion because you posted without thinking first. Oh, and I didn't set the arbitrary number, you did. 4 works for me. If seven works for others or two works for you, then what do I care. But this seems to trouble you...

Oh and to keep on topic I'm getting a 15... Is that okay with you or perhaps I should get the 13 because you don't think I need it! Jk:eek:

I never said it troubled me. I said i didnt need so many. Many people have only one device, and even more people have none of them.
Yes, it's okay with me, you can go ahead and get the 15".

You said you're in Japan, I'm in HK and the event will be at 2 or 3am! Does anyone know if there's gonna be a live stream or is this usually last minute information?

I think it's safe to assume that if the rMBP is available before mavericks they won't charge us to upgrade.

I was more meaning that I could function with ML's issues for one day while waiting for Mavericks. I desperately need the hardware. I think I can tolerate lag for one day, and I don't use external monitors.

I command you to own an iPhone 5S in space gray because I don't like the gold version. To read (exclusively aboard JAL) you must own an iPad Mini or full-sized iPad, if you fly first class and space isn't limited. I also command you to use a MacBook Air because I don't need a MacBook Pro. If you don't cooperate with my requests, you'll be dismissed immediately. Ha!

so just to be clear:

Does apple still live stream the keynote?
If not, how long after the keynote is the video uploaded?
Does anyone know if aus got the 2013 airs wed morning after the 4am wed keynote?

The new Macs will be shipped with Mavericks, and Mavericks will be available on MAS either on Tuesday after the event or a few days after. Will come as a free upgrade (MAS gift card) for everyone who bought a Mac the past 30 days.

Mark my words :D
