Quick question about new releases:

Is it usually possible to order online for pickup in-store? Or are the first batches usually only sold online and shipped directly to people? Reason I ask is there is a tax-free state north of me that would save me some $$$ ;)

My ideal would be to have the new rMBPs released and be able to order online and pickup in NH (tax free). Possible?

^^^this.
That would mean 2x 16GB sticks, which AKAIK, doesn't even exist.

Man the more I think about it the more I want to wait.

Next rMBP's will have DDR4 supporting 32GB ram, will likely have next gen GPU's which are suppose to be a fairly big leap.

I am just looking for WiFiac, and haswell for tomo and bonus kudos to apple if touch id is on them :p

Are you a current rMBP owner? Many of us on here who can't wait any longer!

way i thought about it is, if i buy a $2k haswell laptop today, I can resell it next year for at least $1.5k. Is 500 worth a year on a haswell laptop?

i think so!

OMG! 24 Hours LEFT !!!!!! :eek::eek::eek:

of course they are. they solder the sticks in so they don't have to build removable trays into the product.

You might mean chips instead of sticks. But I really wouldn't know.

I need a support group...

I can't stop refreshing and clicking into this thread every time there's a new post. The chance of there being some real information ahead of the event tomorrow is impossibly low, but I can't help myself!

I feel your pain, man

Im going to guess 256 GB and 8 GB ram will still be stock on the 15'' RMBP? Really wish they would bump at least one of those for the stock edition. +$200 for more RAM? Seriously Apple? Its even more annoying that I cant upgrade the ram later like I did with this 2008 MBP.

What incentive would Apple have to offer 512GB SSD and/or 16GB RAM on the low-end base model?

I'm with you, man. Tomorrow I get off work at 12:15 PM, giving me 45 minutes between clocking out and the event starting. :)

I'm sure there will be people still speculating in this thread come tomorrow morning.

Hey guys!

I've been waiting for the Haswell rMPB since I decided to get my first Mac (wtf were they thinking with Windows 8?:mad:) back in March and been following this thread for almost just as long.

I don't have any questions, theories, or anything else to contribute with (for now), just wanted to step by to thank you guys for entertaining me through this unbearable waiting before we all (hopefully!) get our precious new machines in the next few days! I can't believe we're finally so close! :D

See you on the other side! ;):apple:

There was also that new GM build today. As a worst case scenario, if that had critical bug fixes for the new rMBPs, it could take a week or two to have that installed.

That's a pretty big "if"...
Any idea if there is still lag in Safari on Retina MBP? Has Apple optimized Safari for rMBP yet?

Safari works great. It's my main browser, and I've had no problems in any of the most recent DPs.

I can survive with Mountain Lion for a day if it means having my rMBP that much sooner!!!

You won't see a ML build that gets replaced by Mavericks within a few days. That would be insane. rMBPs will ship with Mavericks out of the gate.

how long until refurb haswell machines show up on apple online store?

There tends to be about a 6 month lag, although that can vary quite a bit.

The whole "Mavericks got another Golden Master" thing isn't a good sign. They'll want to release the new MBP with Mavericks preloaded on it. If the definitive GM is only available right now, they won't be able to ship with it tomorrow.

Actually, I don't think they're related. Per the above, assuming that the new GM build is because of some show-stopper bug with unreleased models is a gigantic assumption. If it's something not a show-stopper, a Software Update available at or immediately after the release is something that Apple's done before.

Easy enough to announce the MBP's and tout all the benefits it will have with 10.9, while still shipping with 10.8.

Actually, it isn't. It's a waste of R&D time to do it this way, especially when the new OS is on the way. I'd expect them to ship with the same or possibly a slight variant on the GM build we saw a couple weeks ago, with a day 1 Software Update.

Man the more I think about it the more I want to wait.

Easy solution: Buy Haswell, sell Haswell, buy Broadwell. Problem solved. If you're smart about it, it's not even expensive to do.

Honestly, I wouldn't be buying this refresh unless I absolutely needed to--or had boat loads of disposable income.

I might even still choose a discounted Ivy Bridge machine if Haswell brings little more to the table than better battery life, as is expected... although knowing me, I will find a way to rationalize buying the newest possible tech anyway. ;)

But certainly, Broadwell has the potential to be the most noteworthy upgrade since laptops went quad-core with Sandy Bridge. If I still had a working MBP I would definitely be waiting until next year to reap the benefits of Broadwell/IGZO/better, faster RAM, etc.

Less than 24hrs to go. By this time tomorrow, some will be crying or throwing the mother of all tantrums.

Whether it's because rMBP was released and they just bought their laptop 31 days ago OR because there was NO mention of rMBP.

It's going to be interesting.

----------

Based on what I've read from multiple sources, we are looking at a very high probability that tomorrow is the day for the announcement of the MBP's. However, I tend to think it all stems from a single source and the various outlets are regurgitating the same info while maybe massaging it a bit to their liking. This is simply my observation but I feel pretty confident about tomorrow.

That's why I'm unsure about tomorrow. Very similar language in all these reports.

John wrote some stuff

John my friend, you know there's at least a half dozen people here tracking your every prediction. You're either going to look the most clueless dweeb on the planet or be hailed as the next Oracle of all truth and knowledge. :D

I admire people who sell and upgrade every year. Dedication! Far too much hassle for me, personally.

And as much as I've enjoyed ever excruciating minute of this thread, there's no way in hell I would put myself through this again next year.

You're forgetting all of the "I can't believe I waited 8 months for such a crappy upgrade!!" posts. ;)

Mine will be "I can't believe I waited 8 months for such a computer - f my life!!" LOL

I'm curious, what makes Broadwell so significant?

It gives even more battery life? I personally will use my 15" rMBP mostly with the power cord in. So that wont be that useful for me. Processor powerwise I heart the differences wont be large to Haswell. Only that maybe you can have a quad core in MBA and the 13" rMBP, but this again would not affect me as a 15" rMBP user.

IGZO also would add battery life and more resolution, but I've heard also there are some problems with it, like viewing angles. Also, it is not certain if Apple will use IGZO monitors or not. For me the current rMBP resolution is high enough.

Of course the iGPU and the dGPU will be more efficient. This is something I wont argue with ;)

I doubt DDR3 and DDR4 speed differances will be very noticeable in real life usage. Also, very few people require 32GB.

Is there some other advantage that I am not aware of? (This is very possible!)

Reasons to get Haswell rMBP over Ivy Bridge rMBP:
-AC wifi
-Super fast SSD
-Second iteration of the rMBP: maybe with some of the kinks ironed out.
-Thunderbolt 2 could be useful if they ever release an external GPU ;) (though it is not certain if this will be in the Haswell rMBP or not)

About Mavericks and needing to update them for shipping...

Why would they have to go back and re-update them before shipping? Couldn't they just ship as is and give you an update when you start up? I could see if the OS had huge bugs that you couldn't operate on, but if its minor they can just patch them after purchase.

Or.... the release announcement doesn't live up to their expected standards.
