Reasons to get Haswell rMBP over Ivy Bridge rMBP:

You missed one. :D In all likelihood... in less than 1 day Ivy Bridge will become last year's model. If you're going to sell a used MBP next year, which one would bring more money?

That said, and based on your realistic assessment of what's important to you... I'd say if you can get an Ivy Bridge model for hundred's off then that might be hard to pass up.

Does anyone know if MacMall generally has the new Macbook releases on the same day Apple releases them?

True. Also keep in mind that the majority of the population don't know/care about Ivy Bridge, Sandy Bridge, Haswell, etc. All they want is a laptop to browse the net and download images to.

There's this funny YT video of a clueless girl unboxing her laptop and this girl was just sad. This guy is the ideal purchaser for a 3yr old mbp.

Less than 23 hours!

I'm stuck on if 8 GB RAM is going to be enough to last 4/5 years. I mostly use the computer for AutoCAD/Internet/Photoshop/some old games. My old Dell XPS M1530 (2008) has 3 GB of RAM and it's got me this far. I would also love the 512 SSD but I'm not sure I can pay an extra 300 to add that.

Nevertheless I'm super excited about tomorrow! This thread has help me through the long wait...Thanks everyone

John my friend, you know there's at least a half dozen people here tracking your every prediction. You're either going to look the most clueless dweeb on the planet or be hailed as the next Oracle of all truth and knowledge. :D

I'm definitely a clueless dweeb. No doubt about that.

Nah, in all seriousness, all I try to do is separate out emotion—i.e., what I might want to happen—from facts, logic, and reason, and then make probabilistic statements accordingly. And the thing about probabilities is that they change over time as more information becomes available. In math, that's referred to as Bayes' theorem, but in life, it's just common sense.

Case in point, when the iGPU vs dGPU discussion was happening 6-8 weeks ago, I think I gave a dGPU a 15-20% chance. Now, with the release of the iMacs, I think those chances are greater, albeit not past the 50% threshold, in my estimation.

But anyway, the key thing you'll note is that I generally avoid saying things like "no chance" or "it will definitely be X" unless I genuinely am close to 100% sure on something. The only thing I was sort of adamant about (but freely admit I could be wrong) is the Mavericks-out-of-the-gate thing. Common sense suggests that would be nutty, but it's also conceivable there is non-public information that could influence that decision.

About Mavericks and needing to update them for shipping...

Why would they have to go back and re-update them before shipping? Couldn't they just ship as is and give you an update when you start up? I could see if the OS had huge bugs that you couldn't operate on, but if its minor they can just patch them after purchase.

Exactly. Apple also did that with the Haswell iMac. Putting out an update on day one.

Mavericks has reached GM status, and has been put on Haswell rMBP's the past weeks. It is no longer a delaying factor (although I'm sure it has never been!).

But guys, on this site it says the MBP's will be announced probably 24 or 25 october. Tomorrow only iPad's. Or am I reading that wrong?

So it's still a couple of days I think :( https://www.macrumors.com/2013/10/1...-pro-all-reportedly-expected-by-mid-november/

What might happen is Macbook Pros available in store this Friday, able to order online tomorrow after the event. I think they like to see store traffic, and this would generate it, just like the iphone release. And then maybe next week iPads available in store. Don't know how they're going to handle a release of iPads and minis though, as in same day together, or probably new Ipad 5 and updated iPad mini w/out retina and then retina mini sometime November on its own.

Is there anyone using WP8 and rMBP? Does it sync good? Any problems? I have LUMIA 920 and I love it...

I'm using a Lumia 920 and a Mac (well, I was until I sold it in May so I could buy the Haswell rMBP) and I've been getting by just fine. The Windows Phone sync client from the Mac App Store has been working out well for me. The only issue I have is in order to access the file system on my 920 I have to plug it into Windows (either via bootcamp or my Sony Vaio). For whatever reason it doesn't show up in OS X Finder the same way it shows up in Windows Explorer (I prefer this for transferring my pictures vs the sync client).

Haha yeah I'm one of the waited-8-months people. I'll accept any sort of upgrade at this point.

Maybe that was Apple's plan all along; wait so long that we'll accept any update no matter how terrible it is ;)

I understood that to mean an announcement tomorrow and availability on 24/25 October.

Uh oh... At this point, I hope this is just the available date and they announce it tomorrow. This is just painful and I CANNOT BELIEVE I'M NOW WAITING FOR AN ANNOUNCEMENT TOMORROW.

I should do the smart thing and not believe anything will be announced for rMBP. Just wait until Friday.

I'm curious, what makes Broadwell so significant?

It gives even more battery life? I personally will use my 15" rMBP mostly with the power cord in. So that wont be that useful for me. Processor powerwise I heart the differences wont be large to Haswell. Only that maybe you can have a quad core in MBA and the 13" rMBP, but this again would not affect me as a 15" rMBP user.

IGZO also would add battery life and more resolution, but I've heard also there are some problems with it, like viewing angles. Also, it is not certain if Apple will use IGZO monitors or not. For me the current rMBP resolution is high enough.

Of course the iGPU and the dGPU will be more efficient. This is something I wont argue with ;)

I doubt DDR3 and DDR4 speed differances will be very noticeable in real life usage. Also, very few people require 32GB.

Is there some other advantage that I am not aware of? (This is very possible!)

Reasons to get Haswell rMBP over Ivy Bridge rMBP:
-AC wifi
-Super fast SSD
-Second iteration of the rMBP: maybe with some of the kinks ironed out.
-Thunderbolt 2 could be useful if they ever release an external GPU ;) (though it is not certain if this will be in the Haswell rMBP or not)

Look at things on the other side of the coin. Why get a Haswell rMBP over a Ivy Bridge? The upgrades listed aren't that significant, either.

I'm excited to buy the Haswell rMBP. And I'm definitely interested in the improvements that Broadwell will bring as well.

Well if you keep thinking like that, then in your opinion there will never be another MacBook Pro ever. Just because you got burned at WWDC doesn't mean you can't look forward to tomorrow.

WE'RE ALMOST THERE!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A RELIEF THAT IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS OUR QUESTIONS WILL BE FINALLY ANSWERED!!!!!!!!!!!

You might be able to pre-order tomorrow

Well, early reports say we can expect a 30% boost in CPU efficiency from Broadwell. That 30% could be used to further improve battery life--which, I agree, is still not a big selling point for me either--but it also could mean a significant increase in CPU speed and GPU performance. It means the CPU will be able to maintain higher clock speeds for longer periods of time, while consuming less power. This is a good thing, and will likely result in a much more noticeable increase in performance than we'll see from Haswell.

The IGZO "viewing angle" issue is already being blown out of proportion. It's said to be just *slightly inferior" in this regard to current IPS displays, but the power savings alone easily trump this minor compromise in performance. (IGZO is said to have better colour resolution and brightness as well, for what it's worth...)

As for the faster RAM, again, I agree that this will go largely unnoticed in real world applications, but the same could definitely be said for the "super fast" SSDs coming in the Haswells. And we're at least a year away from the world at large upgrading its routers to take advantage of AC wifi.

Don't get me wrong: the Haswells will still be kick@ss computers, but if I already had a 2012 rMBP for example, I would definitely be waiting for the Broadwells, no question.

Honestly, I wouldn't be buying this refresh unless I absolutely needed to--or had boat loads of disposable income.

I might even still choose a discounted Ivy Bridge machine if Haswell brings little more to the table than better battery life, as is expected... although knowing me, I will find a way to rationalize buying the newest possible tech anyway. ;)

But certainly, Broadwell has the potential to be the most noteworthy upgrade since laptops went quad-core with Sandy Bridge. If I still had a working MBP I would definitely be waiting until next year to reap the benefits of Broadwell/IGZO/better, faster RAM, etc.

+1 I have treated my White macbook horribly and its gotten to the point where I have to be carefull when carrying it around or something is going to stop working.

My parents will be using this now to replace their 10year old acer desktop :p

Are you a current rMBP owner? Many of us on here who can't wait any longer!

I am just saying that I really want to wait till broadwell but my white C2D really needs to be replaced.

way i thought about it is, if i buy a $2k haswell laptop today, I can resell it next year for at least $1.5k. Is 500 worth a year on a haswell laptop?

i think so!

Yeah, if the leap is big enough I might do this as well. I had done this initally when I switched from the white macbook to the white unibody macbook a year later for the 9400m

Story of my life. My mid-2009 MBP's SATA cable unseated itself or something while shutdown and caused the flashing folder of death. And from the outside you would think it'd still work like a champ! Just a few scratches and minor dents. Damn fragile internals :p

I'm not a power user, so to me it sounds like the benefits of Broadwell won't be huge. The same could be said for Haswell compared to Ivy Bridge, but I don't like buying from anyone other than Apple, and it's pointless at this point to not wait a day or two.

Seems as though nearly everyone is awaiting a rMBP. I'm going to be torn tomorrow if either the classic isn't significantly updated or if the 15" rMBP doesn't come with a base config of 512GB SSD.
256GB just isn't enough for me and I really can't justify £500 extra for a 512GB SSD on top of an already expensive machine.

Haha I know what ya mean. I got home to an unfixable HD one day and had to reinstall.

Honestly the biggest gain for me will be having sound in both ears :D (I friend my headphone jack by sending a surge of electric current through the headphone jack from my amp:()
