3. A better screen. IGZO or 3360 x 2100 or even both is a possibility.
IGZO screen could be one more reason for new MBP delay: Sharp will start producing IGZO displays in June. Sharp IGZO screen with the highest resolution can reach a staggering 3200 x 1800 pixels per inch.

Now question is could they produce 16:10 screens for Apple. If they can, are those panels limited to vertically to 3,200 horizontally and 1800 px vertically so they must shrink one side:

Standard IGZO- 16:9 - 3,200 x 1,800
Customized IGZO - 16:10 - 2,880 x 1,800

The thing about Apple is they can order any display they want. Any resolution, any aspect ratio, or whatever they want.
With IGZO, they can address one of the most major complaints of the display, the low brightness which was kept low in the current gen due to the high power requirements.

Wouldn't they start clearing out the stock now by stopping the shipments to resellers? Amazon.com is up and down with stock as well as MacMall. Maybe we will see a shortage soon. I still think they may have done the benchmark test on Mavericks just to assure that its fully capable of handling the new OS as well as the current OS.

I still don't understand why Apple uses GeekBench to perform benchmarks knowing the whole world would be aware of it. Can't a company such as Apple with such talented engineers develop an internal benchmark tool similar or better than GeekBench? As usual, Apple plays hide and seek games to raise mass expectations...:apple:

Would those IGZO produce less glare than current rMBPs displays?

Glare can be reduced further with brighter displays. The current rMBP has a 250nit display. The new Samsung ATIV Q with an IGZO display of 3200x1800 can go up to 600 nits. So you can do your calculations there. :D

More info regarding new IGZO - it requires a lot smaller bezel, and its thinner compared to current screens.

Production of 14" IGZO started before June, so Fujitsu was first who could show their model with new IGZO screen. Take a look:

ADDITIONAL UPDATE:
Sharp 15.6" IGZO panel:
QHD+ resolution
400 nit brightness
1000:1 contrast ratio

It seems that Sharp's "Moth Eye" technology eliminates glare while preserving color vibrancy... It would be nice to have it included in this fall... :D

Yummy crispy display. I want a bite of it in the fall. :D

Since this is a MacBook Pro thread...any thoughts on the availability of a new Hi-res /4k Cinema display?

If Apple wants to release a 4K display, I would believe it would be a higher than 4K res. 5120x2880.

Yeah, 4k on a 27" display is only 163dpi, which is fairly nice for a desktop display but still far from 'retina'. For reference that's basically the same pixel density as the original iPhone.

The current Thunderbolt/Cinema display then is only 92 DPI...sounds like a potential opportunity for refresh...hope it comes at the same time as the mac book

i don't get it why people expect so much on IGZO screens.

the fact that Apple goes for two panel suppliers LG and Samsung tells us one thing.
its either Apple wanted to create a redundancy in case one of the suppliers have hiccups.
or yields for these screens are so low that you need two suppliers to keep up with the demand.

lets take iPad as an example, there's Samsung, LG and Sharp.
what are the chances of Apple sourcing screens from Sharp alone?
geezus

That's a good point. Sharp would need to have near perfect yield rates to account for the demand.

Wont they wait till they sort the wifi and usb problems people are having with the MBA before they release the MBPr Haswell?

So, anyone think there's a chance (considering the style of the new Pro) that the new Retina will be black?

Any chance of July or August release? I really don't want to take my 17inch plastic behemoth to college in September.
