My hat goes off to those of you who are waiting for Haswell. I just didn't want to wait anymore and picked up the 2.7/16/512 15" rMBP yesterday. I'm enjoying it very much for what it's worth. The Apple Store manager told me I'd be able to pick up any Back-To-School promotion that may occur in the next 14-days. I will certainly be bummed if Haswell comes out very soon, but still outside of my return window. Such is the nature of instant gratification in this case!

The wait is killing me, but I don't need it, but want it :') Oh well. Hope you enjoy yours! :)

I think that the chance of redesign (slimmer form factor) with this upcoming update is around 0.001% (IGZO gets about 5% chance from me).

Prior to the 6/10 announcement I was hanging around on the MBA sub-forum awaiting the release of a Retina MBA. I love my 2012 MBA but, as many others, I am less than enthralled by the display. Of course, I was disappointed when that product failed to materialize. I gradually started visiting this sub-forum in the hopes that one of the prognosticator's prediction of a "slimmer" rMBP would come true.

What are thoughts on this? I know there is only 1/2 pound difference between the 13" MBA and the 13" rMBP but I truly love the form factor of the MBA. A little more svelte on the rMBP would really be great. Might this be the case?

Also very disappointed in the performance of the new Haswell i5/i7 CPUs that the MBA received. So regardless of whether the slimming will occur I am in for the new rMBP when they come out. For me power and display are my priorities. 12 hours battery life is outstanding but not on the top of my list.

I highly doubt there will be a form factor change. I could be wrong, but given that the current design is the "changed" version of the MacBook Pro, I doubt apple will change it again only
after a year. Plus, if they made it any thinner there would not be much of a difference between the air and pro. I think that point may come when the 13" air and pro are merged but that definitely isn't going to be soon.

Any reason why the BTS sale is being held? I'm hoping they are waiting for the MBP release along side it. Or they are spreading out sales of the MBA due to supply. Any thoughts?

Any forecast for the upcoming 13" rMBP configurations?

IGZO display + Iris pro + 16GB RAM + 512GB PCI flash + WiFi AC is likely a dream configuration for non intensive gamers / 3D designers, and I believe it could make huge sales for Apple if it is reasonably priced... How much do you think it would cost?

With apple care $3200

what you dont get it? there are no notebooks in 2012 that use IGZO, its a simple matter of stock. You have to have them before you send out those units.

.....
What he dont get is that you posted a test of a lot of displays saying there are comparisons with ips vs igzo already.
And then when he couldn't find what computer in that test had a IGZO panel he asked for that.
And you are still not answering him so thats what he dont get.
And now you are refuting your own statement from the first post saying there are no notebooks from 2012 with igzo.

THAT WAS THE POINT FROM THE BEGINNING!!!! But you came with a test with no igzo panels at all, telling him that there where in fact a test and that he was misinformed. But the fact is, you are!

Your configuration will be a dream come true in a few months.
IGZO display is a huge possibility if it's released in October.
However since there is actual proof that the upcoming 13" rMBP is going to be using 28W ULV processors, you won't see Iris Pro but the basic Iris. Still! It's a major, major upgrade over HD 4000.

Reasonable 15" retina Macbook Pro Haswell configurations:

2.0 Ghz quad-core i7
2.0Ghz Core i7-4750HQ
Turbo-boost up to 3.2Ghz
8GB 1600Mhz RAM
256GB SSD (PCIe)
Intel Iris Pro 5200
nVidia Geforce GT 750M with 1GB DDR5

2.3 Ghz quad-core i7
2.3Ghz Core i7-4850HQ
Turbo-boost up to 3.5Ghz
16GB 1600Mhz RAM
512GB SSD (PCIe)
Intel Iris Pro 5200
nVidia Geforce GT 750M with 1GB DDR5
- Optional upgrade to the Core i7-4950HQ (2.4Ghz, boost up to 3.6Ghz)

Less probable, but still possible, 15" retina Macbook Pro Haswell configurations:

2.4 Ghz quad-core i7
2.4Ghz Core i7-4700MQ
Turbo-boost up to 3.4Ghz
8GB 1600Mhz RAM
256GB SSD (PCIe)
Intel HD 4600
nVidia Geforce GT 765M with 2GB DDR5

2.7 Ghz quad-core i7
2.7Ghz Core i7-4800MQ
Turbo-boost up to 3.7Ghz
16GB 1600Mhz RAM
512GB SSD (PCIe)
Intel HD 4600
nVidia Geforce GT 765M with 2GB DDR5
- Optional upgrade to the Core i7-4900MQ (2.8Ghz, boost up to 3.8Ghz, 8MB L3 cache)
- Optional upgrade to 32GB RAM

16 Gigs of Ram is sooooo 2011.... we NEED 32Gb RAM at least

Cheers

How much better is Iris Pro over Iris? And Iris over HD5000/4000?

Is the actual proof related to the mysterious GeekBench benchmark? According to Anand's article, the mysterious rMBP 13" would have a i7-4558U CPU and Iris 5100. Would it handle hands down the 4M retina pixels without lagging? I guess the base model would come with 8GB RAM and 256GB PCI Flash. What would be approximately its price tag?

Is there a chance to see a quad-core rMBP 13" with 47W TDP processors i7-4950MQ or i7-4950HQ, Iris Pro 5200 and a better cooling system? This would really differentiate the 13" Pro from the Air... If this dream could be true in few months, what would be approximately its price tag?

If base comes with 256, it will be $1599-1699. Quad core IP is not going to happen, though.

Quad-cores in 13"? Only on skylake, of course in my opinion. This time, we'll only seeing a huge difference in battery life. And this isn't a bad thing.

the kirabook was launched in march of 2013. it has a IGZO panel. There are no production models with IGZO panels from 2012. Specially given that IGZO was really showcased in CES 2013 and latter at Computex a functional 14 was allowed hands on

The lines for the 14 and 15 IGZO panels have started churning out production displays since june 2013
http://sharp-world.com/corporate/news/130514-6.html

the line for the 13 has already been going, with possible move to 3200*1800

I pointed out the rmbp 13 (IPS) and the kirabook (IPS IGZO), those are pages from the review from anandtech made on those respective machines. I take you can alt tab/cmd tab the reviews to compare the numbers between those machines.

how Im misinformed?

It is really frustrating to sit on a 1.6 GHz single core CPU, being a developer, and just waiting, waiting for a new (r)MBP.

They are weeks over their regular updates.

Why is it so hard to give out some information before it is released so we can plan ahead?

I am just about to buy the "old" current rMBP. Been waiting for 3 months.

Can you imagine what it is like to be on a 1.6 GHz single core CPU? I am serious, I can not even watch a 720p video on youtube without lagging.

sigh...

those IGZO panels emphasis on power savings and pixel density actually ..

there haven't been any articles about how good the IQ is ..

I'll reserve my comments until someone or some website compares them side by side with the current retina display macbook pro.

This is what you awnsered when he wanted a comparison.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6409/13inch-retina-macbook-pro-review/4
there have been a lot of articles, you just havent read them

its pretty on par, I disagree with the delta e results, since the rmbp suffers from color fluxuation

Um ... i don't see the article mentioning about IGZO ... anywhere ?

besides IGZO panels have just begin production this year ... am i missing something ?

i've seen and heard a lot of reviews from websites and my web designer peers ... i find many praise the retina's color reproduction ...

if retina colors are worse than cMBPs, many professionals would have traded their machines back to cMBP.

these numbers do tell us something but i felt the comparison table cater more towards people who are more concerned about those numbers rather than the quality of the screen itself.

some say how good the Samsung Super AMOLED screen is, deeper blacks, whiter whites...bluer blues...the results exceed all those color test...
i found the oversaturated display is as good as turd.

any designer who are sane enough would have chose the iphone display over samsung even though its "just an IPS"

so i guess ... can we just wait till anybody post comparison photos? like... REAL side by side photos...not just numbers?

I still don't get, could you just simply point out which model of the 2012 notebook that is using the IGZO?

Hes refering to the first link you posted as an awser to "I'll reserve my comments until someone or some website compares them side by side with the current retina display macbook pro." that is what he wanted but what you linked has no igzo computer in the list!

Developer here too, and while I have a dual core processor, it can't play youtube on 720p without lagging either. Xcode is so slow on my machine too.

I can't even run the simulator without waiting about 2 minutes for it to launch, compile, and whoops! I forgot to add some code there. Recompile, wait 2 more minutes...ugh! And the animations in the simulator are so slow compared to my friend's who has a 2 year old Macbook Air and Xcode is super fast on his Air. :(

Also, my screen doesn't work so I can't code when I'm not at home. I hoped Apple would have released the new rMBP today...guess that's not happening. I may end up buying the current rMBP if Apple doesn't release the new rMBP by August because that's when my semester starts...

Seriously! This site is called MacRumors.

Here's some speculation for you. Maybe they don't want to release new MBP's until the fingerprint technology rumored for the 5s is ready. I have this speculation based on the good authority of all the other speculators here.

For everyone complaining about speculators and fabricators at MACRUMORS, consider your audience.

Lol. I heard that the reason for the delay is that they are adding a stovetop burner on them so you can boil your eggs
