Dude. The base model with the dGPU is almost as expensive as the base model without dGPU and 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD BTO option. So practically you're getting the dGPU and extra processor speed for free in your case. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Or your over paying for just iGPU - depends how you look at it

13" rMBP 2.4 i5 or 2.6 i5

Hi guys. This is going to be my 1st mac.

I am confused if the upgrade to 2.6 i5 will significantly enhance the performance.

I have decided to take 16GB SDRAM, and 256GB Storage(i will keep most of the things in an external hdd)

I will be using this for mainly:

1. Programming(c,c++,java,scala,etc)
2. Virtual machine (Windows 8)
3. Streaming HD videos
4. Photo editing

I wanted the 15" for the quad core but i am on a tight budget.

About to order a rMBP with a 512gb SSD and 16 GB ram and 2.3 ghz processor. Should I get dedicated or integrated graphics?

Main use is photoshop and editing related use.

Might as well get DGPU for the same $. No, I don't have benchmarks, but in the past model DGPU did benefit some aspects of Photoshop workflows. You can always disable the DGPU in the unlikely event it is proven to be a significant battery suck, and still have it in there for future needs or resale value. I really don't see a reason to go with integrated for the same $.

Yeah, you're right. It's a classical: Is the glass half empty or half full?

I rather see it as a present because I already get a discount of €600 because I've bought it in Hong Kong.

That's how I looked at it as well - education pricing got me the "free" dGPU for $2399 (2.3 Ghz, 16gb, 512gb) The same specs I would of built with the base 15" anyway.

However I bundled the TC 2TB with the purchase and the TC has shipped and the laptop still says preparing for shipment...Est 10/28. Lets hope it ships today and gets to me on Friday like some other US buyers. I am in NJ btw.

I'm in the exact same position, also same specs. But if you are a NY-er why wouldn't you buy it in that awesome apple store in NY?

Edit: My apologies. I misread that. You're in NJ, not NY.

With more ram = More productivity with photoshop and video editing

For needs such as skype, web browsing and playing LoL and whatnot, 8 GB of ram will be just fine.

It's up to you how professional you are with programs that needs that extra ram in order to render videos quicker or using alot of software at the same time without slowing down.

Thank you sir for your advice, just got:
2,0 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost upp till 3,2 GHz
• 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM
• 256 GB PCIe-baserad flashlagring
• Bakgrundsbelyst tangentbord (Svenskt) & Användarhandbok (Svensk)
• Tillbehörssats

and an airport extreme!

If you are doing all those upgrades, the dGPU costs you $0 more. You would be crazy not to order it with the GPU.

Just placed my order this morning with in-store pickup:

15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display

• 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
• 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
• 512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage

Very happy with this + the price with my EDU discount.

Should be in-store for pickup on Nov 4th! :D

I've just picked one from the Covent Garden Apple store in London :D

Wen't for the i5 2.4 / 8GB / 256GB model as my 2012 Air with 1.8 / 8GB / 128GB never felt slow for what I've used it for. For raw power it still have a desktop PC running Windows.

Thanks to everybody for burning my eyes reading this thread for the last few weeks! :p

Have you asked if there are other configurations available? Like ram upgraded models?

If you are doing all those upgrades, the dGPU costs you $0 more. You would be crazy not to order it with the GPU.

What about if you use windows a lot? Bootcamp forces the dGPU if I hear correctly, with no way of switching that off. Would be a massive battery drain.

I ordered!

I will move to the other thread, but I chose the dGpu option as well

2.3ghz, 512, dGPu. Got some discount through my employers EPP but the tax kills it in Ontario.

Ordered last night and UPS says in by 10:30 am on Friday :apple::apple:

Oh, very very good point. I didn't even think about that.

Parallels? For me, I'd use Parallels 99% of the time so its a non-issue (assuming it doesn't happen using that)

Got my rMBP 15" base model today. I was previously (and still am) undecided on whether it's worth it for the dGPU so I'm testing it for the 14 days and seeing if it's fine.

I'm a casual gamer in the sense I like to play PS3-type games like F1 and maybe COD so a decent graphics performance is a must for me. About to test!

All of you waiters that got a base config are lucky. Some of you already have the new rMBP right now. I have to wait.
