Hurray!

I am so happy. I have ordered my new rMBP. I had been waiting since before WWDC, so I had been waiting since at least June. So much waiting.

Now the waiting continues, because my rMBP will take 2-4 days to ship, because I got the 2.6 GHz processor.

Got my rMBP 15" base model today. I was previously (and still am) undecided on whether it's worth it for the dGPU so I'm testing it for the 14 days and seeing if it's fine.

I'm a casual gamer in the sense I like to play PS3-type games like F1 and maybe COD so a decent graphics performance is a must for me. About to test!

Just an update on this, played the F1 2012 demo. Had settings maxed out and I'd say it was trying to do 60FPS but you could tell frames were dropping when things got a bit heavy. It's impressive for a iGPU but there is room for improvement.

Might be unfamiliar with that term here, can you elaborate?

Parallels is a software that allows you to run Windows from with Mac. Depending on what your needs are, it may prove to be a good solution to the Bootcamp/GPU issue

Ah, I see. Hrmm...

Just trying to weigh up stuff here. If I got the dGPU the resale value would obviously be a lot higher, but that assumes I'll sell it and get broadwell/the update after that. Really not sure. Thoughts?

Just placed my order this morning with in-store pickup:

15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display

• 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
• 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
• 512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage

Very happy with this + the price with my EDU discount.

Should be in-store for pickup on Nov 4th! :D

Wait, store pickup doesn't mean it's available that day even for stock models? Darn it! I was hoping I could get my mom to order it online so I could pick it up. I'm in college in a different state. Should I just have it shipped to me instead?

Those in-store pickups are too late for me! I checked earlier and it said November 1st for my area. No thanks, I like my October 28th-30th delivery estimate.

How do you check what the possible delivery date for pickup is? Any way I can go into the store with my mom's credit card info?

Check your shipping status via UPS My Choice (free to sign up). My shipment status indicates delivery of Friday, Oct 25th now ;)

:(

Well checking from the ups site still says 10/28 for me. Oh man, I will be delighted if it arrives on Friday.

Alright guys, I'll be picking up my rMBP next week friday. I'm not really sure what model is best for me though. I'll be mainly using it for casual stuff (internet, music, etc.) as well for photoshop, video editing, music editing (Garageband and maybe Logic) and perhaps a bit of gaming. Which model would you guys advise me?

Just go online like you're going to order, and enter the checkout phase. It'll show the date.

October 30th for both stores in my area. Not terrible, but I feel like it's worth waiting a few more days to see if it becomes available same day. Waiting a week for a stock model seems silly.

Yeah, that does seem crazy. I mean, I ordered a BTO and I'll have mine before then.

depends how much of the more intensive stuff you're doing. If you want to play modern games at high settings or do a lot of video editing you'll want the 750m version. Iris pro is good enough for medium settings on slightly older games, Iris will do low settings. Just be realistic about what your actual use cases are.

FUUUUUUU!!!

Bought mine one minute after the store came up (15" low-end base with 16GB RAM), and it's still "processing".

Hehehe. Yeah, I don't think it's going to make a big difference whether you ordered 1 or 5 hours after they became available.

Correct. And the 5200 is more or less the same as both the 5000 and 5100 minus the cache. The only difference between the 5000 and 5100 is that the later has a power wattage of 28, while the former of 15. That's a big difference though, and it shows in performance output
The extra 13W cap is going to make a difference. Who took a crack at benchmarking the HD 5100?

Was there any change in size of the rmbp 15? I don't think there was. Will the current cases fit the new model? Thanks!

Can we arive at 15.000 post before the topic dies?

I just summarize what we got right and what we got wrong.

1) None expected an entry model with 4GB RAM

2) Someone expected a slightly price drop. We had it: 100$ or 200$ less. For example the 13" i5/8/128 had a 100$ price drop.

3) iGPU vs dGPU: none party won or, better, both were right since you can chose.

4) Monitor unchanged (but I hope they solved all first gen problem)

5) Inferior to expectations battery life: +2 hours for 13", only 1 hours more for 15".

6) TB2, we got it. But we expected a 4k tb display that we still don't have

7) No crappy colours!!!!!

I think you summed it up. Although the 13-inch getting thinner/lighter by that slim margin, we got that.

My only disappointment is the FaceTime camera not going 1080p.

How will Iris handle photoshop and iMovie/After Effects? As those are my main performance needs. Thanks for the advise btw.

I cancelled my original order and decided to get the middle CPU option. :p
