Can we arive at 15.000 post before the topic dies?

6) TB2, we got it. But we expected a 4k tb display that we still don't have

we now have an opportunity to give apple more money at a later date...very glad this was included...separates the earlier model from this revision nicely...now how it will perform with multiple 4k monitors is under debate...but then I may need some incentive to get a Mac Pro

image retention -- samsung/LG test

Can anyone test what panel these new haswell macbook pro's are coming with ?

Here is the command you need to type in terminal:

ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

if you seen anything that starts with "LP" you have an LG screen, starting with "LSN" you have a samsung screen. Please post whether you are seeing LG or Samsung and what model/config you purchased.

If LG can anyone run the image retention tests ? You can run this test via:

does anyone know if iris pro in the new rmbp can handle games such as Minecraft, CS:GO and L4D2 at highest setting with a 50+ fps ?

Was gonna wait for Broadwell but with the manufacturing issues and subsequent delay i've decided to just go with the proven Haswell and upgrade again at Skylake. Guess its like being on the iPhone 'S' upgrade cycles.

My machine is on its way. Its a week 40 model assembled by Quanta.

The serial number is in the invoice, correct? I assume that's how you know when and where it was made. I need to figure out how to read those serial numbers.

2.6ghz i5 vs. 2.8ghz i7

I'm trying to decide between the 2.6ghz i5 and the 2.8ghz i7 for the 13" MBPr. Does anyone know if the i7 will significantly cut down on battery life compared to the i5? Thank you!!

Yeah. Just put your serial number into this site and it will decode it. The info it gives is still minimal because the product is still very new but you get a week number and factory ID

Might as well get DGPU for the same $. No, I don't have benchmarks, but in the past model DGPU did benefit some aspects of Photoshop workflows. You can always disable the DGPU in the unlikely event it is proven to be a significant battery suck, and still have it in there for future needs or resale value. I really don't see a reason to go with integrated for the same $.

If the only problem with dGPU is potentially battery life, ask yourself how often you work at a desk doing PS without access to a power port. Maybe it's just me, but at home and at my office, I have a power port. I worry about battery life when I'm on a plane and on a long flight.

My biggest worry is about heat dissipation not battery life. I would love to have some discussion about this from people who tried both dGPU and iGPU on Macs (not necessarily on this specific model)...

The problem is that the dGPU is not smart enough and it kicks in frequently even when it is not necessary...Even with software like gfxCardStatus, it now obliges you to use the dGPU in certain situations (such as when plugged in to external monitor)...

Thoughts?

i was about to pull the trigger last night on a 13" rMBP (2nd tier standard configuration) but then i saw the ship dates which was disappointing..

so i decided to take a chance and go to the brick and mortar apple store this morning. i got there an hour before opening and..there was a line! but when i asked the people in line they said they were all waiting for the iPhone 5S. So then i came back after the store opened and spoke to 2 representatives. One manager. The manager told me they DID in fact get a shipment and they will be sorting it out later today, to check back in a half hour and I was welcome to wait. So here I am.... :)

That's how I looked at it as well - education pricing got me the "free" dGPU for $2399 (2.3 Ghz, 16gb, 512gb) The same specs I would of built with the base 15" anyway.

However I bundled the TC 2TB with the purchase and the TC has shipped and the laptop still says preparing for shipment...Est 10/28. Lets hope it ships today and gets to me on Friday like some other US buyers. I am in NJ btw.

Are you a BTO? I'm so jealous that people are already getting their units today. I ordered yesterday and at that time, there was no option to pick up in store. It seems store pickup might have reduced the time. Anyway, if it's not delivered by this Friday, no worries. I travel every week and I'm not home from Sun-Thursday. Next Thursday seems like the day.

In the meantime, I'll figure out how to set up Time Capsule and have my cable provider disable SSID from the modem/router combo.

Hello experts!

I am excited to order a new 15" rMBP but undecided as to whether I need the dGPU model. I am a graphic designer; I work mostly in InDesign, with typography, and also do some basic image editing in Photoshop / Camera RAW. No gaming, no video editing, no sound recording. Will I benefit from the 750M? Are there any negatives to it (other than $$s)?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

I'm not sure if anyone has answered your question but it depends on the kind of graphics work you're doing.

Here are some links that speak to how Photoshop utilizes GPUs.

Generally it sounds like a good idea to include a dGPU if you use Photoshop heavily. I'm a graphic designer myself and just bought the premium rMBP with dGPU included. I plan to do a bit of gaming, and also do video work as well, so my user scenario is different.

Good luck!

Yeah, I'm jealous too. I'm BTO, so I won't get mine until Monday or Tuesday.

Minecraft is usually somewhat difficult to run so You may be able to get around those frames. Counter strike you can get 40-60 fps on ultra. And around 80 on high. L4D2 I can't get benches on but might be around 40 on ultra. If you play these games above 1366x766 you're not going to be able to play on ultra.

I'm in the exact same position, also same specs. But if you are a NY-er why wouldn't you buy it in that awesome apple store in NY?

Edit: My apologies. I misread that. You're in NJ, not NY.

I have 2 apple stores withinn 15 min from me in NJ and even a short 20 min drive to NYC. They do have them in stock in store but already placed the order yesterday they read "preparing for shipment" so I cannot cancel.

It sucks I have to wait until next week now when I know there is one sitting for me in the store as we speak but it's a (first world problem)!

Ordered a 15" 2.3/16/512 last night (Tues.) at ~9 PM U.S. Eastern.

Prior to the order, standard shipping estimated delivery on 10/29.

I decided to pay the $15 to expedite, resulting in estimated delivery on 10/28.

This morning received a UPS shipment notification -- it left Shanghi this morning (Weds.) and should be on the local UPS truck Fri. morning, for delivery by the end of the day. Amazing the way world-wide logistics works these days.

$200 off the Ivy Bridge model, $200 off education discount*, $60 off AppleCare -- nearly $500 off a better machine by waiting since WWDC :D

It's gonna be a loooong couple days 'til Friday!

* Eligibility for $200 off, for the price of a mere ~$12,000/semester college tuition for my son for several years -- not a very good deal!!

Well i 4k doesn't really matter if the TB2 cant drive it in 60hz.
At least not for me.
The whole point of "waiting" for TB2 was for it to be able to drive 4k in 60hz.
HDMI can already drive it in 30hz.

I cant find any information at all about if the TB2 on the rMBP is capable to drive a 4k display in 60hz.
Or if there is going to be TB2-HDMI 2.0 adapters.

This is pending confirmation - but not sure what the 60hz measure means- are there less than 60hz 4k setups out there? What is it, better quality? Whatever the MacBook Pro may be able to do, the only promise for 4k Display has been for MacPro - but it definitely seems to suggest they're thinking 4k for MacBook Pro with TB2 as well

How will Iris handle photoshop and iMovie/After Effects? As those are my main performance needs. Thanks for the advise btw.

Iris pro is great at photoshop, will struggle a bit more with after effects depending on how crazy you get with it. So I'd recommend the 15 inch, in order to avoid the iris 5100 in the 13. Then it depends on how much storage and ram you want. If you're ok with 256/8 then the base 15 sounds like the right one for you, but if you want to go for 512/16 then you might as well get the high end one because as soon as you add the upgraded processor it's the exact same price, just with the 750m too.
